Fine tuning the res setup a little thanks to insights from @WillieP @Jewels and @Gentlemancorpse

I decided to also feed the swamp cooler / humidifier with the res in addition to dehumidifier condensate and put an overflow on the swamp cooler res so I have redundancy and failsafe.

Swamp cooler overflow

It already had the float valve and inlet.

The dark green hose goes directly outside, I previously had it connected directly to the dehumidifier but it was freezing and backing up. It's a little warmer now and also hoping the discharge water is warmer because it's not direct off the dehuey compressor.

The air duct is both room circulation and outside air when cooling is required.

Redid the outlet so I have an extra spigot too.

View attachment 155310
The little silver box on top of the swamp cooler is an attic fan switch that I wired into the fan so the fan only runs when above a given set point (about 90F). The pump runs when humidity is called for and the room circulation and outside air get humidified.

View attachment 155311
The clear tube is the dehumidifier condensate drain and I blocked in the side of the swamp cooler with a piece of insulation like is on the top.
Nice looking work!! I so need running water in my grow shed 12 months a year due to freezing temps I pack in the winter ?

IPM day today. TBH I have been slacking because pest pressure is really low right now. I rely heavily on procedure and environmental control but foliar biocontrol is very important too.

1gal - 3ml Conserve SC, 1T Grandevo, a couple globby drops of Thermx 70.

Also applied Regalia via soil drench. ~1.5T/gal.

All plants treated, even seedlings and houseplants (African Violet, Norfolk Pine, crown of thorns, mother-in-law tongue, other misc.).

I'll do a sulfur burn probably after transplant and bring the rest of veg and seedlings into the shed to partake while I give the tent a good cleaning. A few to several days later I'll apply Botanigard and not do another burn until after flip.

Transplant day
Decided to add some frass 3C to the 3x3 and 2C to the 2x4. Hit the roots with the BAS BB and watered in with photosynthesis plus.

Didn't get good pics of setting the carrots up but set the top up so there is just a hanging drip without attaching the carrot body.
View attachment 20230212_125059.mp4
The video shows more than a hanging drip but if you see where the arrow is on the adjuster head tightening it so it aligned with the green indicator fin set it just perfect.

Next step is to make a hole for the carrot body, a stick just smaller than the carrot works great. Fill the carrot and add some extra drops of water to give it a meniscus (see pick on previous page).

Carefully place the carrot body in the hole about half way, you still need to put the head on and will have to spin the body of the carrot because the head is already attached to the feed line.

Set the carrot the rest of the way in the hole and double check the setting by opening up the adjuster to allow flow then going back to the hanging drip.

The sensor carrot begins to function almost immediately so if your soil is not at the moisture level you desire you will probably have to reset the carrots, particularly if the soil is too dry. Too wet is a little easier to account for by just tightening one or two indicator arrows past the hanging drip point. Going the other way is possible but if it takes too long to saturate the soil the carrot will actually loose water making it difficult to achieve a consistent setup.

It's important to have either a dripper or open ended line 1-2 in from the carrot. Too far away and the carrot will be delayed in sensing or worse the water will flow away from the carrot, the soil the carrot is sensing continues to dry out, further opening the valve - hence a runaway.

Once everything is set, I'll mulch over the dripper. I'll pull them occasionally for inspection, maybe weekly. The drippers need occasional cleaning to, maybe monthly, gonna depend on water quality and if you’re fertigating.

IPM day 1/2gal, 1/2T Vinerate, 1.5 ml Si, a glop of Thermx70.

I did have a runaway a couple days ago on the 2x4

Pretty sure this was due to mulch (mostly rice hulls) falling into the carrot hole, preventing good interface with the soil. Punched a new hole and reset.

Fed Fertinitro Plus and Super K Fulvate 1/2T per gal. About 1/2 gal per bed, diluted by 50% for houseplants, seedlings and moms.

Calibrated/checked my rh probes/sensor with a saturated salt solution in a test chamber (Mason jar with a hole in the lid and some pkumbers putty). Also got the 69pro set up for the environmentals and the 69basic is my light timer/backup temp/rh sensor.

I am kinda not liking the looks of the preflowers on this cut of the seedling that went intersex.

Working out a plan for replacing it, probably put a couple of the PC4xHS, maybe give the dwarf a better shot as I have not been bansai pruning it as much as the others.

Hit 50F here today, so I decided to go for a walk after getting about half the transplanting done that I wanted.

Yesterday I planted some wildflower seeds I collected last fall.

Just set the tray on top of the veg light, I'll get some t5s and a shelf in the tent tomorrow probably, after finishing the transplanting maybe, lol.

Thanks for sharing this set up and grow, I am pondering moving from 7 gallon containers to two 3x3 beds in the shed. Blumats are in a cupboard.

You're welcome. Thanks for stopping by.

The advantages of a communal bed outweigh the challenges. Last run I planted the beds before plants were sexed. Spacing got a bit off because of males and a couple intesex culls but all the nutes left in those rootballs just got reincorporated by the other plants because of the living bed.

It's just a sweet way to grow, basically water only, a few things here and there, some foliars, ammend the beds every other run or so, easy peasy.

Got clones taken except for PC x HS dwarf and no. 3, Jenny's already backed up.

Gonna leave them there for a couple days, but I did get the tent ready for em by putting a shelf and some t5 fixtures up.

LST and clean up too, I did git those 2 in pots (pc x hs dwarf and no. 3) planted and I chopped the questionable hs x 7Hills back to only one small top, gonna be watching it closely.

I even got my vise mounted (2yrs it just sat there) and cleaned up the smoking area.

Oh yeah, +54F yesterday, 24 hrs later -1, right now -10 and about 6in of new snow.

Hits about perfect. I want a little longer mouth piece by 2-3 in and have it be a little closer to 90° vertical I think.

Garden note -
Tonight is first 12hr dark for the shed, clones moved to tent, anything that didn't get cloned or doesn't make it will have a chance in a couple weeks, I left a spare or two down low.

IPM day 1Gal - 1 Glop Thermx70, 2ml Si, 1T Grandevo.

Regalia via soil @1T/Gal + a glop of Thermx70.

Sulfur burn in a few days, would like to do a Ca foliar before that, probably Monday, then an epsom foliar the week after.

The recent transplants are just recovering and I lst'd and pruned everything else. Took about 10-20 minutes per plant and practiced my breathing, it was a glorious morning in the garden.

Can't seem to load pics right now.
