URGENT Question Outdoor help !!!

2 questions here guys, 1 can I feed my Jack's nutrients to my outdoor soil plants, they're going into flower now and I wanna make sure they are fed well during flower, if I do it what ppm should I shoot for, they are in organic pro mix based soil 13 gal smart pots. And 2 how much can I prune and or defoliate on these outdoor gals, I go way hard inside but now we're talking soil and sunlight vs hydro and LEDs, it's been humid as hell here at night and I'd like to thin them out a little to help with airflow, bit don't want to stunt or shock them, any pointers are greatly appreciated

I know some will argue this point but i am a fan of heavy defoliation in my plants and not sure i have ever hurt them. I just kind of think of air flow when i am cutting fans off . Thinning out if you will ;) . Not a outdoor organic guy but just a thought not knowing how much heat is already in the soil maybe try Jacks normal formula cut in half and then monitor the plants for further direction.

Keep in the pH difference if you're moving into soil and ppm should be similar to what you're use to. In a transition like that I feel going in soft with nutrients at first (say 50,%)is better approach. The plants should be able to take off quickly under the power of the sun and can be pushed to match.

Keep in mind that under the sun the leaf is a solar panel and fuels growth. Air flow becomes more of an issue when bud mass starts to build. Outdoors has better air flow in general.

Hey Cap :). Defoliation and the sun... Ok first I’m a defoliation guy straight up. And my plants get the sun for the last 2 weeks of veg through harvest. Used to give everything daylight sun but we are getting 105F days and I had a wilt issue on 3 younger ones so... switched it up a bit. Here’s what I’ve learned that’s relevant to fans and outside. I went hard at a defoliation project and during times that the plant is stressed, I found that the remaining fans take one hell of a beating during flower. The plant draws on them for reserves I think. And it appears they take a hit before the bud sites do. These plants get hit with a moisture meter twice a day, and are fed the optimum in micros and nutes. They are in 5 gal grow bags as I don’t like trees. I’ll still defoliate but very selectively (bottom 1/3, fans covering bud sites). I’ll never go to the extreme I just did.

Fans are amazing, in my observations, i have seen the plants use them many ways. When thirsty, they are a canteen. When hungry, a lunchbox of mobile nutrients. When i put a girl in hot soil, she shuttles the excess nutrients to the big fans, starting at the bottom, killing just the big fans and sparing the tender growth til she adjusts... i could go on but some observations are fun to discover on your own.:)

Hey @MHippie yea i don't know the first thing about outdoor growing regarding defoliation. I usually only do one major defoliation in flower when they are not missing a beat 2 weeks into flowering and from that point on is just a pick here and there. The main reason i do it is to avoid any powdery mildew. I would imagine that is not as big a issue with outdoor stuff with the amount of wind to keep things dry. Although i have never had the mildew i would like to think the reason is the defoliation.

I usually do it on a plant by plant basis. Big open sativa, leave her be. Super bushy, i start to take fans about 18 inches from the cola so i get a little better development on the lower portions. I also strip the lower third and most of the inside growth. If the sun isn't hitting it, it is just a home for bugs and bs(bad stuff).

Pm is a major outdoor issue. I have been to gardens that look grey, smell of fermenting milk, as growers battle to save crops from it. In areas, like river valleys where humidity swings from morning to evening are drastic, it is prevelent. Some strains are almost ungrowable outside because of their suseptability to pm. It is everywhere. Most non gardeners wouldn't know it if they looked at it. I know that it is in my veggie garden right next to my girls so i have to be vigilant. Impossible to isolate outside, really.

@GthaEnigma what preventive measures do you take to combat the mildew outdoors? I am in the Northeast part of the states and the super high humidity has been a battle the last couple of weeks. Although i grow indoors it still affects me in a negative way. Running a dehumidifier 24/7 is not cheap. Plus i have to hump the water out of the room as i have no where to drain it. However if i were outdoors i no things would be a lot worse.

Maybe I should defoliate some fans haha
We have had a warm and less humid summer. I'm hoping for a kickass fall to bring the bitches home

This season I have been using ionized ph'd water, Kangen Water. I alternate between 2.5 ph, also known as hypochloric acid, and 11.0 ph water. It kills mold, mildew, and all mites. The 2.5 is the same stuff opthamologists use to kill mites on eyelashes, so it is completely safe for humans and animals but death to all soft bodied insects. so far it has been very effective at keeping these ladies pm free. I spray at the first sign, starting with 2.5. Three days inbetween. Has only taken 1 cycle per treatment to stop spread. I have plants 4 ft away COVERED in pm. Just too much to try to treat so i just focus on the ladies.

I have actually been wondering how you have been making out with the outdoor crops. It has been so humid here the last couple of weeks and i know you are not to far from me. Did you loose much last year from that strange looking purple mold you were seeing?

Its still there. It doesnt seem to impede growth. They decided to plant corn,in the alfalfa field so I'm having less than optimal air flow. Ive defoliated most every time,I come. Mostly lowers and dead shit. But yes its been pretty humid I guess. I lived in FL so I dont even noticw. I was doing densglass outside all week and getting fiberglass and sweat caked on me. I freaking love that shit when its HOT! I worl like a mad man and my back doesnt flare as much. I think between these 8 and the other dozen or so. I have like 10 -12 different strains. I really wanted to,kill it this year outside. To ensure I'd have enough without HAVING to do indoor. I followed the exact subcool recipe and it worked great. They seem to be well fed but the very tips have the purple blight looking shit. I hit em with sulfur a couple times and diatemecous earth and bennie teas. So its not going away but has seemed to die with the heat
What the he'll is this?
