Pheno Hunting

So what traits do you look for? I realize its a vast array of desired traits that dictate certain outcomes but what are you hunting for right now? What are you looking for and why? Personally myself I look for plants that thrive with vigor in my setup (organic as possible) that tolerate being mainline trained that don't spit out nannerz because I looked at her wrong. I Personally like skunk and fuel with some sweet fruity taste on the cure. I haven’t been growing long enough to really know what I'm looking for because it seems to change a lot. I thought I wanted some RKS that reeks to high hell like I had in the late 80s but after a couple grows I don't want that shit stinking up the house lol I basically want something that only me in my circle has. That's basically what I am on the hunt for. I want braggin rights!

I am by no means a breeder, chucker, or even a good grower. That said it would be more a taste/smell traits that mattered. I assume you can cross in vigor but those special tastes and smell is what everyone is chasing whether it's skunk ? or some fruit ?or chocolate ?. That's what I'm after any hints are appreciated. ?

I want the terps and fun colors, it's no fun to smoke a bunch of weed if it doesn't taste good! I especially like picking out for anthocyanins, been slowly working on turning my playthings totally purple over the past few years, plus they've got some fun cedar terps I enjoy. So mostly bag appeal and smell/flavor for me, I like it when people gasp at the jar/plants.

Even though I've been consuming for >35 years, I've only been growing for a fraction of that, therefore my goal continues to evolve as I learn both what is available and what I desire.

I'm also coming to realize some of the traits I enjoy most are quite subtle and take time to appreciate.

Smell and taste are important, but the effect is priority 1 for me. I can always buy flowers or candy, the high/stone is the thing.

A decent yield is also important to me. While I am allowed a fairly big plant count, when the numbers get too high, a lot of the fun is lost and growing becomes more of a chore than a pleasure.

Ease of cloning matters. Some plants have cuts that take forever or are very finicky and those generally don't stick around my garden.

Because I grow perpetual and like variety, I like to keep cuts that thrive within a specific PPM range. IE, I want to be able to feed all my girls from the same reservoir. If a cut is a finicky eater, or if it's a greedy pig it probably won't last.
Same with temps, and the other variables: if it requires special treatment it won't last.

Homey don't play with no drama queens.

I may get to the point some day where I'm willing to nurse some finicky, scrawny bitch along for a small harvest of "gourmet, high-grade connoisseur cannabis"........ but probably not. ;)

My order goes like this
1) Effect
2) Taste
3) Appearance
4) Yield
Always looking for those four (listed in order by preference) :passjhomie:
Me would be
Taste
Yield
Effect
Appearance
Lol probably. I will be quite honest most joints taste the same unless I fire it up. I dont like the taste of Raw. Tastes like a blunt almost and I don't like blunts unless its like a grape flaver. Zig Zags for me. I lije the hemp zig zags too. I really like the Runtz Obama and the Sour Grape. IDK what I taste really. Can't describe it. But its so good on rhe sweet side of Obama maybe. Really loud.

But..... under your scenario.......you could end up with a truckload of tasty, no buzz weed :)

I'd have to make RSO with it then lol but TBH I take a gel cap with a shot of RSO 2-3 times a day. I like to dab a lot. I have a 3×5 dab press and make my own rosin. So most weed I smoke gives me the beautiful flavor and smell. Top priority and very little buzz unless I am exhausted or had a few drinks. I used to get paranoid AF off just a couple pinch hits. I am just now starting to lower my thc dose daily because I really like to smoke it more than dabbing it. No school like old school man. Runtz x Obama rocked me and my buddies at poker lol. It's only been in jars a week maybe 2 on the 1st plant. I like a couple dabs B4 work because it doesn't reak lol

Holy shit I agree and am starting to experience what you are saying. Prime example...I got a bright idea to try SOG in a 5x5 I had 8 plants in there. Doing soil I had 3 x the watering chore and trying to keep an easy route to water was impossible. Fkn CHORE. I had bud rot on the biggest cola I've ever grown lol

Effects
I think effect is number one - I want to find strong versions of these.
Indicas:
Gravity Hole level couch lock Indica
Pain relief - my Wife has an injury causing chronic pain, and I'm just old & like to get high.
Mood lift - cheek hurting giggle fests
Relaxation.

Sativa - I want to clean the garage before taking out a kayak while playing a guitar & fishing - I like speedy Sativas - paranoia doesn't bother me like it does some.

Flavors & Aromas
I'm not a big cake / cookies fan. I like old-school SKUNK and kush aromas - spices & rubber tires on fire sound good as well.

Appearance
Of course I want something to show my friends - so yeah, appearance is important, but secondary to the above.

Yield - I want it to last until next harvest (hopefully going perpetual soon...)
