From what I've heard/read, it was brought back from Vietnam, and is thought to be a Vietnamese/Nepalese hybrid. I'd imagine it was crossed to Nepalese here, because how would they know what the parental lineage was just by guessing back then? Unless they were told it was a cross back in Vietnam...

Also, the climbing finger like structure was what gave it the "Monkey Paw" moniker, also just from what I've read.

Either way, I hope to find something special, like you said. Mostly to get something my buddy remembers fondly back to him, but also because I haven't sampled Vietnamese or Nepalese yet myself, and look forward to it.

Otherwise, I'd imagine Kinetic will hook me up with the Monkey Paw S1s when he makes them. All isn't lost yet on this hunt?

Update: Out of the 30 beans of Shotgun Willy that Kinetic sent, I have 2 or 3 left to try. I sank a full pack first, and when none sprouted, I tried various methods, usually just a couple beans at a time. I had a glimmer of hope when I saw the shells crack and tails pop on a couple of them, but once planted, they just never broke soil.
I don't know when Kinetic made these seeds, but he did warn me that the seeds were getting old, but thought they should still be viable. (The Mills Fruit Farm he sent along with the SWs seem to be fine)
A few days ago, I figured I'd let him know how things were going, and asked him to keep me in mind when he makes the MonkeyPaw S1s, if he hadn't already. Well, he hasn't made them yet, but felt bad about the SWs not popping, and actually offered me the MP cut instead...super pumped!!
I'll probably grab the S1s when he does make them, especially if I get the cut, and compare the two. Hopefully I'll get the cut in time to put her outside, and finally see what this old hype is all about.
If I remember correctly, Kinetic either got the MP from GrandPaw (the original holder) himself, or from someone who did, so she should be legit.
I'll keep this thread updated if possible...
