This will be a perpetual thread of all grows and I begin here in the middle of several?

Meet the Auto's:

I grew the F1's in soil this past summer. The first 2 are the best male and female from this grow. Second is a hermaphrodite, well it started with a pollen ball before developing flowers. I haven't seen another ball since but I've kept it away from the others. Last pic is 5 females stretching and flowering. This is only my second grow of autos.

I had a beautiful red/purple stemmed GDP female pop up with a tomato plant in the garden and she was pollinated by a DF auto male. Of the 19 seedlings 6 are displaying the colored stems which I will be breeding hoping to produce a red/purple GDP auto. Last pic is mama.

All have been topped once and several twice. I'm shooting for 3x's - 8 main colas each. Hoping to flip by end of November or sooner.

Plants are grown in greenhouses in 1 gal fiber pots of coconut coir and fertigated 3x's a day automatically with MasterBlend nutrients. Supplemental LED lighting is used to keep the plants on a 15/9 light/dark schedule during fall/winter.

In my next post I'll share the auto fert system.

Welcome to Plumber's Buds?

Auto Fertigation

Summer 2020 I had 3 dozen tomato plants in pots of coco coir in the garden as well as my yearly crop in the greenhouses. All watered by hand, ideally 3+ x's a day. I was mixing 30+ gallons a day and not keeping up. By fall I was full on burnt out and did not grow anything this past winter. A couple friends sent me seeds this spring and I vowed to set up an automatic watering/fertigation system this year.

I found 55 gallon drums locally for $20
20211027_100820.jpg
Water and air pumps were $55 & $40
20211027_100856.jpg

A digital timer, $10
20211027_100920.jpg

Standard 5/8" x 50' drip system tubing $10 and fittings $40. I bought 1000' of 1/4" tubing at Habitat for a few dollars.

Drippers, connectors, tee's and 90's $30

Miscellaneous items such as clamps, PVC pipe and fittings maybe $10

So for about $200+ each I get this
20211027_084515.jpg
and this
20211027_104252.jpg
and I get to keep my sanity

You should check the plants and system daily and weekly refill the barrel but you can take a week or two vacation while the plants continue to grow. I did so a couple weeks ago here

Gherry? I like it and T99 works as well. I still have a boatload of seeds including GDP x Ground Pounder (Purple Pounder?) F1's and plan to work those GDP auto crosses until the line is set.

The DF auto line is set I believe. My summer grow produced 1 reg DF that I harvested with the rest of the photo periods last month. Puffing it in rotation of 4 other strains I grew this year including 2 Gherry's and 2 LA Woman. All were autos this F2 grow and will send you a batch of these seeds in about a month?

The automated system has changed my life. I'm no longer spending every free moment mixing nutes or pouring water on coco coir.

Life is good!

I think he got sick of typing the cross and since it wasn't named he asked if he could name it.
I said I didn't care, I emailed RJ since it's his crosses and I just f2 them for him, and he said kool, so Gherry it is..

When I was running the Tangie99 I just started to type T99 cause at the time I was still over on the farm too, and it was easier. Plus there was a problem here with Reno's/ RJ and it was a problem....

Hell I was thinking I wrote all this down on a piece of paper and sent it to you with some beans...

Anyways good to see you again??

Weekend Update

Weekends are when I can spend quality time with the plants and things can change quickly.
20211030_124044.jpg
Actually 2 more males of the DF autos but gave me more room for the 3 left which is a good thing
20211030_121024.jpg
These should be done in a month, I hope.

Still it's the weekend as well as the end of the month and time to break out Captain Jack's

And snail bait
20211030_115852.jpg
And check the mice/rat device
20211030_115842.jpg
I've been wiped out by all of these critters at one time or another and have no choice but to use these products that do work pretty well btw. Jack's is a one time spray at dusk/lights out and done. In 2 weeks they'll get Monterey bt. and done. I've never noticed a difference with the end product other then no catipiler shit?

Snails and slugs are easily controlled with one of the readily available pellet poisons. I do have beneficial snails in the garden but in the greenhouses the poison is very effective and contained. A lite sprinkle in the corners and middle inside once a month or after a rain does the trick.

Mice and rats love seeds and seedlings but this little device keeps them away.

Hermie that's just about done. It's only 10-12" tall. Any seeds will be put in the bird feeder. Then there's this here
20211030_120246.jpg
Have no idea what strain was grown and harvested before these 2 seeds popped as the name tags follow the plants to the garage to hang and dry and then to a bucket to cure. It was something good?so I'll grow them out to enjoy.

May all your grows be bountiful?

Weekend Update 2

A lot of trimming was done last night on the photo periods who turned 50 days old today.
20211031_090032.jpg

Grandaddy Purple (GDP) - my F3's
20211031_090013.jpg
2 of the 6 have the desired colored stems and will be used to produce the F4's

20211031_085904.jpg
This GDP, with or without the colored stems remains one of my top 5 strains. This Indica grows like a weed, big purple buds and smells and tastes like grapes. I always seen to have it growing and never tire of smoking it.

Looking forward to working these new additions. I'll definitely seed one of the Gherrys. I harvested 2 girls last month and very happy with the buds.

I've yet to top-off the 55 gallon drums but I'll take care of it today and then the coming week will be nothing but talking to and taking pictures of the plants. Life is good?

Yes, those are taco slippers. In our house we sometimes do Taco Week.

Really enjoying these two. Perfect representation of their respective sexes of an auto plant. I have to make them my last plant visit to avoid pollinating the other girls.

The plan is to cross the resulting seeds with the seeds from the DF auto above as these have already been crossed with the above line then cross those back with GDP photo line. Going to take about a year but a worthy goal. Once that last cross is made it will be another year plus to set that GDP auto line.

A problem in this initial cross was a genic abnormality
20211102_085654.jpg
There were 3 displaying the deformated leafs. As with most genetic combinations you can breed for or avoid. In this case those 3 are making compost but I can expect to see more as I work this line.

1st Saturday of November Update
viral-weekend-memes.jpeg
Long week.

I planted another two and a half dozen seeds. It's been almost a month since a seed has popped here. 31 LA Women planted 11-3.
20211106_081622.jpg
20211104_104606.jpg
Got this hot rock from a 2nd hand store, cut out enough foam for it to fit and now it's my winter/spring seed warmer. That pan is sitting on top.

20211106_082306.jpg
Love these two. I don't have any more females to pollinate now so I'll take him down soon and save the pollen for a daughter and/or granddaughter DF auto. It is day 77.

I thought this one would be done by now
20211104_103728.jpg
20211104_103612.jpg
First to flower and produced a pollen ball. Runt hermie at 11" tall even for an auto. Couple of deformed leaves in 3rd-4th week. It's been in flower over 30 days. Trichs cloudy, none amber.

Time to move these into the large greenhouse as the seeds will need this space with in a week.
20211106_081648.jpg
4 of these were popped Sept 10 and the rest Oct 7. Just found this pic 20211007_180039.jpg
I thought they were younger. Oh well, they are beautiful and growing like weeds.

The powers that be say I'm out of bandwidth to post more so I'm off to make another post?

A full greenhouse shelf is always a beautiful sight to behold
20211106_082102.jpg
Those first 3, DF autos, have about doubled in size stretching and flowering and are now on day 77.

A friend and fellow grower asked if I thought the autos were worth growing. He had grown a few and wasn't impressed but he's pretty much an indoor grower and limited on space.

I've given it a lot of thought this past month and I really don't know, at least not yet. I can see being able to grow up to 12 plants untopped in a 2x2' space in 1/2 gallon pots of coco. I have 15 2x2 such spaces in the large greenhouse. In theory I could pop 30+ auto seeds each month in the small greenhouse and after a month keep the best 20-24 and move them to the large greenhouse taking up 2 spots or 2x4'. Whittle those down removing males and runts/deformed for the next month to 10 and harvest about 10 autos a month every month. Even 5 a month of a different strain/taste each month would be more than plenty and would still allow me room to grow regulars as the light wouldn't affect the autos. Now let's see if I can do it?

The regulars
All popped Sept 10, 57 days old

T99
20211106_081909.jpg

Gherry
20211106_081914.jpg

I haven't taken a real close look or spent much time with them this past week. My hope of flipping them by the end of the month is on and maybe before. Out of 18 plants I should get 6-12 females. A GDP and Gerry female needs to be pollinated and if I can the T99 as well. Good seeds are expensive...

May all your grows turn out better then you expect?

PlumberSoCal

Spent the past few hours working on the large greenhouse
20211106_144432.jpg
Moved all the DF auto x GDP crosses to the large greenhouse and moved the DF auto flowering females to the East side
20211106_144441.jpg
I had to run the 5/8" tubing. Now that it's done it adds 4 more 2x2' spots and 3 2x2's two shelf spots. Those will be useful when moving young plants over.

Tray in the small greenhouse is empty
20211106_145203.jpg
That twofer
20211106_145306.jpg
needs to be split and put in their own pots and moved to the other greenhouse.

The hurbs
20211106_145258.jpg
will stay as the nutes are never above half strength which is perfect and the basil will be cloned several times before having to replace. The empty pots are having the coco coir conditioned and I need to get more going.

That auto dwarf female should finish some time this year
20211106_145251.jpg
I hope.

All I have left is topping off the 55 gallon drums and I'm set for another week of enjoying and photographing. Next weekend I'll be potting seedlings and thinning out the herd.

Having more fun then should be allowed?

This is really cool

If you've got the munchies I've got the tacos?

Beautiful Thursday here.
20211111_100018.jpg
A little warm?

Only 2 seeds have popped so far. It's been 8 days but it has been cold at night. Maybe it's time I invested in a real seed warmer.

I miss spoke in my last post. The DF auto's were 81 days old, not 91 so today they are 83 days. The whole idea of growing autos was to go from seed to harvest in 3 months. This strain isn't there yet with only the one (hermie) about ready to be harvested. I can do the regulars at about 4.5 months seed to harvest but only during the winter months growing outside. In a few weeks after trying the smoke from a seedless auto I will reassess the autos and determine if they are still worth growing.

I made a batch of caps last night
20211110_175634.jpg
Half ounce decarbbed weed to half cup coco oil. They're stronger then I usually make. I take one every morning and the last batch I was having to take two. No one wants these new ones as they say the last batch put them on Mars? I must have a tolerance. Last night I took one before bed and didn't wake until 4:30am. Took one an hour ago and feel fine. All I scheduled today is an estimate for replacing the drain plumbing under a clients home so easy day for a change.

The regulars
20211111_092213.jpg
Still debating on flipping them Monday, the following Friday or say the hell with it, top them again and flip end of the month. I lose 2 weeks but the way these are growing it may be worth it.

Buds are beautiful
