Question about making butter

Ok so its been a few years since I've made my own canna butter. I have 3 possibilities with decarbing and making the butter. I have my oven but no temp settings on the knob and no oven thermometer. I have a crock pot and i also have an air fryer. My usual method is old school. Oven on 245 for 40 minutes. That's hard without a thermometer. I've read up a little on both crock pot methods and air fryer methods. So much info out there and I know most of it is probably bad info. I'm hoping somebody here can help me turn this 2 ounces of trim and larf into some useful medicine with a proper crock pot or air fryer method. Any help is much appreciated.

I've never used a crockpot to decarb (oven, Ardent), but I have heard of a double-boiler method being used in a crockpot, but not really sure how efficient that is being that water boils at 212 degrees, and we are aiming for 240's right. Doesn't sound like it would get a full decarb.

I am very hesitant to use this oven too lol. I want to do bad but with no idea what temp I'm at? Def can't do that. Plus it's a mid 1960s oven with no seals so the temp fluctuates very wildly. I knew I should have bought a butter machine with our tax refund.

I’m sure I’ll catch hell for this here but I’ve just made butter and oil without decaf I got it for years it wasn’t until maybe a year ago I started decarbing and honestly I haven’t even noticed a difference so you can do it without actually decarbing but that’s just me

I put the water to a boil, and preheat my coco oil in thw microwave prior to adding flower. Then I use a double boil in the crock pot for 6 hrs. I bought a cheap meat thermometer to make sure my double boiler/ coco infusion bowl are at 170f.
As for the decarb, I'm with meat. I dobt think you'll notice. But, maybe set the oven @ medium and put the flower in , until ya smell it. For me this usually happens around the 30 minute mark @240f.
I use a 5 gallon paint strainer to seperate coco from flower after whes cooled a bit.... Nit too much. U dont wanna strain hard, coco. Been there

It has to be decarboxylated for it to be potent. You guys probably aren’t noticing the need for it because you are cooking your butter for so long and it’s going through it during that process. IIRC correctly, the decarboxylation starts at between 200°F - 220°F. The reason a lot of people decarb at 240° - 250° is because the decarb process is quicker at that range.

Ya I'm thinking I'm just gonna do a low and slow in the crock pot and hope for the best. I'm sure it'll do us proper.

Yea the crockpot on low and slow should do the trick.
I been using this stx decarber to go with the Infuzium 420 from them. It (barely) holds 2 oz but it is convenient and doesn’t stank up the house like the oven will. I did contact them about a replacement when mine stopped heating and their customer service is good.

I don't buy the entire decarboxylation with excessive heat. If you start with bone dry material that's what is most important.

I've done it all, even bought a machine I rarely ever use due to the fact that I have found it easier to just start with bone dry material and I use water in a pot just under the simmer point. I add my butter and then I add my herb and I let it steap for about 20 minutes max.

After the cool down when it's safer to handle and not an extreme for the refrigerator I run this through a cheesecloth or old bubble bag when making lbs of butter. Once strained I place it in the bottom of the fridge overnight or until solidified. Then it's just a matter of pouring out the water. If you find it is too green from the chlorophyll you can add water again to the solid butter and reheat. Your gonna have to put it back in the fridge again but it will rinse out a lot of unwanted stuff besides the chlorophyll.

Now comes the last step where you can either use it raw on toast or whatever else you want or you can cook with it or bake as well. The secret here is to avoid temperatures over 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything over 300 is going to degrade the cannabinoids.

Most of the decarboxylation takes place when the Herb is air dried to a crisp and the heat helps it as well when cooking and baking, but I don't ever mess with the oven and all that. If you were to ask others about my butter they're going to tell you how badly it's messed them up for a few days lol I make blackout butter and I love it when it's all bud. I don't even bother to grind it either, just crumbled by the hand is all. It takes four ounces of weed to a pound of butter to make the blackout butter.

Have fun and enjoy your medibles

6 hrs @170f is too long?
I had to stop adding it to my coffee before work, woowee

Here's an accurate decarb chart I've used for a long time.
Time and heat.
Lower the heat, add more time.
Add more heat, lessen the time.
I do 240* for 30 min, to an hr or so, a bit more depending on quantity I'm doing. Usually around 4 oz at a time for me. ???

I just found that chart today lol. It's done and setting in the fridge. Should be some good shit. I'm ready for some rice crispy treats and I also love making breakfast bars. It's my favorite time for edibles. I added a pic of what I use to strain. Muslin bags have always been what I use when making any kinds of herbal concentrates. Thank you and everyone else for the info! I'll report back after we try some later today. 20210707_235121.jpg 20210707_235059.jpg 20210707_235206.jpg 20210707_235246.jpg

Heck yeah, I take a dose every morning, and every night before bed. Keeps me feeling younger. Like when I didn't ache every day. Lmfao.
I don't even bother cooking with it. Just a spoonful of medicine to help the medicine go down. ???

That chart is interesting. I usually decarb @ 240 for 40.............but I have also done 320 for 5 minutes with good success. Hmmmmm...which is stronger? No clue but now I'm gonna watch and try and figure that out. Seems the shorter hotter run is the most potent by the chart.
