Iasked last nite and got some feedback on this mustard from an old friend and he says his wife (chinese) buys powder to make the mustard from. I asked what brand but the answer was it comes in a bag at the asian food supply............no name, but he insists they will have it. and that's the way it's done. lol I may check into this myself..................looking online this site is making it with Colemans mustard.

Appreciate the extra digging! Im definitely going to keep an eye out for the chinese mustard powder on my next visit to the Super 88. In the meantime, i have everything that recipe calls for I think, may make it right now if I do!

@Willie This very qu8ckly became one of those "why have I never tried this?" moments... appreciate the push to do it. Handful of things I always have on hand and I have a hotter and better mustard than any takeout place has ever delivered. I do like my mustard a little thinner and I basically doubled the ampunt of water in the recipe but otherwise did exactly as stated. 20230119_133016.jpg 20230119_133119.jpg 20230119_133115.jpg 20230119_133146.jpg 20230119_133954.jpg

So Penzeys is a spice company that has a physical location here in MA but Im pretty sure they ship nationwide. Some things are a little pricier than the supermarket but it really varies, a lot of stuff is pretty on par. And their selection is unbeleivable. And the quality is top notch. Like, did you know bay leaves can have actual flavor?? They dont have to taste like licking newspaper. Heres their website:

The others just happen to be whatever my local grocers carry. The mizkan is my favorite rice vinegar I can get locally. A lot of them add sugar or preservatives for some reason which I hate

Make my own fermented hot sauces out of peppers I grow. It's the best. My favorite this year was a white ghost pepper sauce that's so citrusy, fresh and damn hot. Also did a rainbow pepper sause that was a mixture of a few different peppers, it's very pleasing.

My oldest is obsessed with soy sauce. Weve been using the momofuku one, which is great, but I feel like its overpriced so I ordered some imports to compare and the both absolutely crush it. And are less expensive. The small bottle is a sashimi grade soy, and its thicker and a little sweet, the tall square bottle is just soy sauce on steroids. Its funky and salty and just dank AF.

I dont cook with these by the way. Im not that ballin haha. They're just for seasoning finished dishes and dipping.

Finished up the "Hotter" flanker of Louisiana Hot Sauce, and moved on to the "Tangy Taco".

'Hotter' definitely isn't 3x as hot, but still is a good one. Not sure what to think of 'Tangy Taco'. It slightly more savory, but gets kinda lost on things that are already well seasoned. Both were about a 50% premium to the standard Louisiana Hot Sauce, and don't really deliver 50% more experience imo.

This is overtaking Frank's Red Hot as my go to sauce. If you use a smaller amount, it probably won't hurt you, as it's really good! The first thing you taste is pure SUPER fresh Fruit, that lingers on the tongue as a heat starts to build up. If you've ever had African Birdseye, that tongue slicing / stinging sensation comes through nicely, and after using a finger to eat some raw, it literally made it feel like my head was warming up... not on fire, but warming up for sure. You can over do this of course, as it is Ghost Pepper, but it's so good...

Haven't tried it with this yet, but I might, as it could be good:

Pretty cool that the company is sourcing peppers from community gardens all over the country!

Yeah, he's a cool guy and his Salt is so good I had to bring it up. He has a Ghost Pepper Sauce too, but they were sold out LOL.
@Psychobilly
Did you get a chance to eat at savvy burgers yet? It's AWESOME!!! I almost have their boom sauce perfected. I absolutely HATE mustard, BUT I can taste it in the boom sauce, and it is one of my favorite sauces now.

I haven't, but your opinion weighs heavy given your Kitchen know how. They around by "us" ? I've had Boom Sauces before and enjoyed them, but I know it wasn't there.

There's another one on hall rd east of schoenherr (lakeside mall). On the north side of hall rd.

That one is actually closer to me I think. I've been to that Mall before, they had a place with good Fries in there. Though I REALLY do miss that record store that was down the street; Rockabilly's. I can't remember when they closed down, but that place was sweet.
