This is an interesting read about using cold to induce male parts on your favorite girl.

Cool article, I didn't know about the cold-water thing.
On the topic of natural stresses, I have a friend of mine that is an outdoor grower.
He told me that if you wanted to stress a plant into turning "male" (producing pollen), that you could start it from seed in a fiber pot, then set the pot outside and let the tap root dive down into the ground, when it came time to stress the plant he would move the plant (pot and all), breaking off the tap root. According to him, this will force a hermie and produce pollen naturally without the use of chemicals.
I have no personal experience with this, just passing it along.
Cheers,
WillieP

Any natural stress has got to contribute safer avenues to this end I should think.

I grow outside in Michigan and without any real seed budget I generally rely on some stress to get seeds back so I can grow that strain again, so I'm not for sure about the cold here having a huge impact, but I do let them get pretty cold.

Anyone notice increased resin production with cold? The coldest I know of was 2 years ago when it was going to 27 degrees Fahrenheit at night and made my Blue Cheese a Purple color, and brought out so beautiful flowers!

I also had all my seedlings in a 68 degree Fahrenheit room until they went out with decent results.
