If we all just remember that the only real competition here is the POTM and spend the rest of our time on site trying to help each other in a supportive collabrative fashion this place will stay the amazing incubator I have seen it to be. I LIVE on this site. Most anybody that spends anytime here knows that. It is up to us to maintain and guide what we as a community have built.
Oh yeah remember I'm coming for your throats in POTM.

I know that for me, I'm pretty settled in my grow style, and I value this place more for the opportunity to goof around with people with similar interests. I find myself spending most of my time in dumb and/or fun threads knowing that there won't be some vile asshole showing up to shit on everyone's day.

I still pick up extremely valuable tips on occasion, but the people are why I'm here. A person shouldn't have to be a master grower(whatever that is) to feel comfortable taking part.

Another thought, for those who are holding back from taking part, or who maybe started a journal and didn't get much response:

I used to get a bit bothered that my journal didn't get a lot of activity. I thought maybe I wasn't part of the cool kids clique or some such shit. Then I realized that for the most part, grow journals are just the same thing over and over, so unless someone is running something people have a direct interest in, it's mostly polite likes and such.

About the only time I go into a journal to really read is if someone is growing gear I have or want, or if someone grows seeds I sent, and I realized a lot of us have a similar mindset.

View your journal as more of a record of your own journey as a grower, rather than expecting everyone to gush over your beautiful plants (that look just like all the other beautiful plants in the other journals). Go back and reread your own posts every few months and you'll be surprised at your own progress and gains in knowledge. Measure the value of your journal that way, and any further interaction as the icing on the cake, rather than the cake itself, and you'll get a lot more satisfaction.

And in the meantime, jump on in and join the foolishness! :dancingsmiley":superhappydance::punkrocker::carlton:

I musta missed something in the last day or whatever, sounds like it was some stupid bullshit. I don't care for the details.

I know i dont really contribute
You said some other funny stuff too.

I think the guest viewing limit policy of the site contributes to the phenomenon you observed. I also don't care if they are sock/fake accounts of users from other sites, if they can't unravel themselves from the persona they have made up that's on them. Seems like they might be jealous? Otherwise to me they are just silent observers, I like it when they share their profile info, you can atleast run through their reactions.

I love it here and would definitely encourage new members to share or ask questions, as for drama and trolls I'm not on anyone's radar so I must have dodged the BS lol and honestly if there's some shady shit going on I'd say just call it out and stomp it to death out the gate no reason to let it spread lol its not like voldemort is in here casting spells everyone can be named if the bullshit calls for it imo

So, I have less than a year here as a member; I just checked to see when I joined and found the Email from when I was making my account:

Apparently I signed up at about 4:20 LOL. In my time here I've grown really fond of the members, and been impressed ..... I can't even count how many times.... Everything from the genetics I see being crossed by our community, to the pictures of the plants everyone grows, and loved it. I never joined any growing sites before this and it's still the only place I visit for that. I felt welcomed even though I had only a "theoretical knowledge" of what Pheno Hunting was... I'd read about Genotypes and Phenotypes before, but it didn't really "stick" until I started reading and posting here. My questions were newbie to the core and yet no one tried to make me feel like an idiot.

Having been a moderator on a "Computer Security" forum years ago, I was kind of surprised as a lot of the guys on that forum didn't take kindly to what we considered dumb questions (I mean there's only so many times you can read someone trying to "hack" their GF's Hotmail account before you're just pissed LOL).

I can honestly say though that the reason I come back personally is the people here; Everyone here adds something that makes it special to me. And the fact that the memes and shit I say aren't looked at as "Oh you sick bastard!" is nice too of course. But I've learned quite a bit from everyone. Every once in a while I get to actually help out but as Amarok said; I enjoy the community and the fun we can have.

I can understand if someone joins and feels like they're out gunned in terms of experience AND know how; I feel like that too at times truth be told. But I simply don't let it bother me as much as I used too because a good chunk of people here make me feel welcomed.

I've personally only seen one thread where someone didn't really put in effort and wanted to sell seeds, and like every member pointed out what they did wrong, and how to fix it. Literally ONCE. Coming from mostly "Computer Security" oriented forums, where trolling is almost an art form, I'm personally relieved we don't have that here. Believe me, in the Hacking world, trolling is like a "stress test" of patience and self control. I'm not personally aware of anyone that's done anything like that here, and from what I've personally experienced, everyone has been pretty kind and welcoming, and fully willing to answer even some of the stupid questions I ask, so, if anyone is new and worried about posting..... Don't worry. sometimes asking a question can be like pulling teeth, but at least around here there's lots of Novacaine.

Seriously tho, I was looking at Freak and Brisco last year but ended up waiting it out for some Jelly Pie.
There were a bunch of odd coincidences that led to me arriving here(DCSE>>Schwaggy>>DinoParty). The close-knit community and focus on the plant is why I come back.
Plus, I feel that after several years, forums get too cluttered and their usefulness wanes. A lot of places also just seem like a vehicle to move product now because that's what they are(remember Mass Roots when it started, that place was cool for a minute). One thing I hate, across the board, is being marketed to 24/7.

p.s I was checking out that other place after a recent thread here and noticed that I can't view anything past the first page of any thread without an account upgrade. That's just shitty policy. And it sucks because I had been following a couple journals there. ?‍♂️

Lots of great points being made here. pH has maintained its core values which have so far proven to foster the amazing community we have. Trolls and derogatory shit talkers will always be around. Haters gonna hate. For us humans to understand things, there has to be an opposite. So if there wasn’t a “bad,” there wouldn’t be a “good,” otherwise how would we know what “good” is? Our forum is pretty much self governing by the community, just a bit of moderating goes a long way (it’s by no means easy, you can’t make everyone happy all of the time). Let em TrollitUp; kharma will get em if our awesome members don’t get to em first.

Maybe cause I'm a dense prick, a functioning alcy with green fingers and a jovial take the piss mentality is the reason why I haven't noticed trolling. Why can't we all get along? No one is infallible or better than anyone. We come into the world bare naked and helpless and we 99/100 leave the world helpless when the time is up. If you have time to troll, you have time to better yourself, work harder, be kind and rewind. The sad way is to let hate fill your heart and leave blind to the helping hands and words of encouragement along the way. What do I know, I'm just a bloke trying to get by in life and leave the world in a better place than when I first came along.
Now back to the beers some oil and a good night's sleep

Hey y’all I’m new to this page and I got a good buddy on here HBZ farms. He told me that this is a good page to check out and a good group and I couldn’t turn that down. I’ve been through 2 grows and working on my third with seed. I got into this with good passion to learn and grow and to get a lot better to eventually breed and take on task I feel I can achieve and ain’t no better than a good group to get some feed back on how everyone does different.
