Stopped in for coffee here once on a cold bike trip. Highway speeds on an especially cold fall day. Just above zero. Had to stop in many one horse towns to warm up. Oddly enough the locals claim Weird Al Yankovic is NOT from there..
But there are properties up for sale for like 5 grand ?

LOL....When i visit me Mom and Dad and take someone who has nevrer been to the rock...i take them to Dildo. Because its funny.

I am half Newfie...

Its the island to the far right in the red...the furthest east in Canada and where my parents have their morning tea they look out on the ocean and the next stop is Great Britain.
nl.gif

Placentia Bay...Come By Chance....Hearts Delight...Hearts Desire... All the wildest names of places. And the friendliest people you will ever meet.

And they have Gross Morne Park...

And the shittiest weather in Canada... Maybe 3 days out of the entire year my Dad doesnt have to start a fire in the wood stove.

They speak a very fast very thick accented english that will need a translator if you leave St Johns...And they have a lot of colorful sayings that are part of their language.

I will fold your clothes with you still in em (time to fight). lol.

The entire Province has 500,000 people and its a lot of little towns with a few people...there is no night life except for the kitchen party and that is a tradition....drinks will be had...a bunch of fun and then the istruments will come out...and they love to sing a song and dance a jig and have some rum and a good time. I havent met a newfie yet that didnt appreciate some good weed.

If you are lucky you can play the instrument leftover for those who cant play anything...the ugly stick....bounce it on the ground to the beat of the music...and have a good time.

The damned place is on lockdown..maybe this summer i can get back home to see a place i like to visit but its too harsh for me.

Here are a bunch of fine ugly sticks...take your pick...bounce that boot like a rock star.

@OldG In my experience, there's Newfoundlanders and Townies. Nobody outside of St Johns considers them to be true Newfs. At least that's the way the construction boys talk. Is that what you've seen?

I loves to hear me some proper Newfinese. It's funny though, you work with a fella with a heavy accent for a couple weeks and get so you understand everything he says, then someone from his home town walks up and they go hardcore and I can barely catch a word. Like you say, there is so much slang that is unique to the Rock, in addition to the accent.

Me Fadder calls the townies a bunch of irish mobsters....

Me GrandFadder would go talk to the member...and that means going to talk to the member of parliament for your local area because they are not plowing your road and stuff.

They never left Newfoundland in their entire lives and lived well into their 80s.

I can remember my grandfather being the toughest fuck i ever met...cut an ingrown toenail out with a pocket knife...rolled rollies in the hospital and fired em up and told the doctors to fuck off.

He was funny...on purpose..and otherwise...smart and resourceful...he kind of reminds me of Jewels

His brothers name was Heman ! i shit you not...he lived to be 98 and told me G the secret to living a long life is 2 beers every day just 2....

And he was digging up his own spuds and garden at 97

Anywhere outside of St Johns its really nice...and unlike anywhere else in the world.

I hope Jewels appreciates what a huge compliment that is.

Thanks for that response, G. It sounds like you come from some of the best stock possible. Smart, tough and funny are three of Newfoundland's biggest strengths. and most admirable traits, along with true human kindness.

I've never been, but I almost feel like I should have been born there. The people and the life and the culture just resonate with me.

I miss all the East Coast boys from the jobsite, to the point if I hear a Newf or a Caper these days I'll often look to start a conversation just to hear more.

Me sister moved to the rock from Surrey!.. Wee bit of a haul.
She keeps telling me how much she loves it out in Trinity bay though!.. I keep bugging her saying “what ever floats your boat”!…lol
