SSHZ does Ethos “Candy Store” under 2 Gavita LED’s

So....... I'm not going to rehash the threads, they are all easy to find at the Farm under Grow Diaries. I recognize some of the people here, mostly RIU or Farm rejects. LOL Glad to see you guys, let's make some noise!

This is my 3rd LED grow, after many, may years growing under HPS. I switched to LED's to reduce summer room heat, funny now that I'm actually running the room warmer now than ever before. 2 Gavita Pro 1700e's each over a 4 X 4 sq. ft area. 4 gallon pots, Pro Mix with added perlite and Botanicare Pure Blend Pro fertilizer with Cal/Mag. And not much else.

I try to keep it very simple, not a lot of additives or fancy stuff. The LED's have enabled me to increase my yields by substantial numbers- I was averaging around 65-68 oz under 2 1000 watt HPS (but highs occasionally up to 76+) and now my last 2 LED grows were 106+ oz and 103+ oz. Managing the canopy is key along with strategic defoliation. Again details on everything over at the Farm.

How about some canopy pic's............

Fresh from a permanent ban over at thc farmer, I will continue the end of my grow here. That old thread had around 32,000+ views, my previous ones both had over 42k views. It’s probably my 3rd or 4th ban there, and with Spider Farmer led’s about to become a major sponsor of the site along with some big changes, they are running things close to the vest and turning more into a RIU and some of the other bullshit sites.

More about the grow and some pic’s coming this afternoon.
Thats crazy man. You'll be all good here for sure.

Are you thinking of turning the UV on longer than 30min a day yet? how far from the canopy are they hung? Hope your feeling well and having a good weekend.

So with 2 weeks to go, the schedule is:

3 days at 30 minutes, then

3 days at 45 minutes, then

3 day at 1 hour, then

5 days at 2 hours.

They are hung at 36 inches above the canopy. I have zeroed in to one center bud, watching closely each day. The sun leaves have yellowed a bit, but I expected some leaf damage. The last week I don't care what the leaves look like, so the time on then will be full blast.

I am also removing a handful or two of leaves each day right now, trying to open up pathways of light further down the plant. This crop, as a test, was not defoliated like my first two (Orange Gasm and Sweet Zombie), where I went very heavy at the switch to flowering. I left a lot more on this time, and have been slowly picking leaves off here and there as need be. I'm a big believe of defoliating right now, but it's controversial. Look at my Orange Gasm thread, and tell me I'm wrong. LOL

I was asked recently what my biggest regret in growing was, and I said "not switching over to LED's sooner"........... 2 Gavita's delivered cost me $2800, they are cheaper now but I made my money back the first crop many times over and it's been gravy ever since. There's plenty of great LED's out now and I have zero regrets getting the Gavita's- I started posting these threads cause I had no clue how to grow under them. It was trial and error, and a nice bunch of people piped and and helped along the way- a few of them are here now. But with 30+ years of growing under my belt- it was easy to figure it out and each crop has been sensational. I'm commercial these days and actually not smoking anymore because of health reasons, but I make wicked gummies that will put you on your knees. Anyhow, spend the money for new lights and laugh all the way to the bank. And your friends will love you even more!

So, basically I missed the HPS's alot the first LED grow as I fumbled my way thru. By the second grow, it was like " where have you been all my life"!!!!!!

4 plants are really looking done to me, today is day 52 in flowering. I'll take these down on Tues maybe, then wait for the rest to finish in the next 10 days or so. I checked trichome colors, all cloudy with some hints of amber running thru. They have a great fruity/berry smell, very stinky stuff. Buds seems nicely hard too, can't wait to see the totals!

What was the "ah ha" moment for you after your first run with leds? Like what you found you had to change in grow style vs what you did under hps.

Water more, water less, higher temps or more/less nutrients or calmag?

I've only flowered under my quantum boards once and went well but just curious what others experienced. Cheers

The only thing I really relied on others about was raising the temps to 80-82 degrees in the room. I always thought cooler was better under any lights. Regarding fertilizer, cal/mag, humidity, watering, etc.- I did my own thing and let the plants guide me by how well they were doing or not.

The other big change was bringing in a dehumidifier, because the room would rise to 100% humidity over night. In turn, that sucked up so much water, I started having to water every day but reduced the fertilizer ppm quite a bit.

Cool cool, the ambient temperature was what got me. Had the room around 70-72f and that just wasn't cutting it.

Cheers man and thanks for the response.

A brief comment on plant stretch under LED's................

One interesting feature about most LED's is they will keep plants really short if you hang them low enough. My first 2 grows in veg I hung them at 36 inches, Gavita's recommended height. No plant ended up over 2 ft. tall. It sure made it easier to manage the room as the plants need no support, staking, netting, etc. It's a far cry from my plants under HPS which usually got tall and needed a lot of staking Two important factors were the LED distance from the canopy AND day to night temps variation- both these grows it was no more than 5 degrees. Also remember the Gasm was a 90% sativa and the Zombie was a 95% indica.

So this current grow, I wanted to see if I could squeak out a little more height out the plants, which is 50/50 Indica/Sativa. I raised the lights up another foot to around 48 inches in veg and had a day/night temp spread of 15 degrees. These were the only things changed.

Results- about 1/2 the plants did grow taller this time, by about 1 foot. Since I haven't grown any of the strains before, it's hard to know before hand what to do and how to handle it- but over time you'll get a general feeling on what's best. Really the question you should be asking yourself is, "Do I really want taller plants anyway"........ I've been able to get the best yields of my life, 2.3 GPW consistently keeping them short and stocky. This current grow will tell a lot and answer these basic questions. Stay tuned, not far off now.

One things for sure, every time I give the room a look, I see another outstanding plant in this room. Love or hate these Cookie hybrids, their bag appeal is outstanding. I decided to wait til Thursday (8 weeks flowering) and chopped about 40% of the room down. Then do the rest at week 9. I typically ALWAYS harvest at 10 weeks, not this time though. Just not necessary.........
