This Afghan domesticate was collected in Tashkurgan, an ancient centre of cannabis culture in Balkh Province, northern Afghanistan. Tashkurgan is a onetime Silk Road emporium that lies to the north of the Hindu Kush. Its other name is Kholm. Farmers here are renowned fo their skill in charas production, and the farmer from whom these seeds were obtained is regarded as a master of the art.

Notably, north Afghan hashish farmers traditionally leave harvest of their crops until late, well into senescence, for the desired resin, as is the practice when cultivating the Mazar-i-Sharif strain.

Specific qualities of live plants at the source site in Tashkurgan were noted by the collector, namely intense black currant and berry fruit aromas. These transferred to the sieved resin.

Under native conditions, the typical leaflet width of this Afghan domesticate tends to the narrower end of the spectrum, but broad leaflets are not unusual. Within cultivated populations from the wider Hindu Kush region, leaflet widths range from broad to narrow, as in authentic Chitrali and Mazari strains. CBD and rarer cannabinoids are likely to be exhibited.

For collectors, these seeds are invaluable. They were sourced at some personal risk and with the generous help of Afghans, whose local knowledge was crucial. The price tag on these seeds is high by our standards, but it’s justified.

NOTE: The current stock is a reproduction of the original accession through open pollination.

I haven't had great luck as of yet with Tashkurgan LOL; Two years in a row, it's been nothing but males. The first one this past season was beautiful, but he had to go. This season, I had two seedlings outside, and they were doing great until the balls showed up.

I have to say the size they obtained was impressive! One I needed a ladder to see the top and realize it was a male. This season, each male was different, but one smelled like Pina Colada really.

I do have a Tashkurgan cross too... Cheesing :) Chocolate Cheese X Tashkurgan.

I'm about to preserve Tashkurgan for our vault. How about posting a few pics of that cross?

I'll dig around for some pictures from this past season :)

I ran a Tashkurgan and a Cheesing and the Chocolate Cheese patent, but only the Chocolate Cheese was female sadly. I know the Cheesing (Chocolate Cheese X Tashkurgan) was likely going to be the largest plant I had ever grown; I'm 6 feet tall and needed a ladder to pull the top down to check for the sex. When I saw the sacs I had to take him out in 3 pieces because he wouldn't fit lol.

This year's male Tashkurgan were doing great until I saw the sacs. They seem really hardy, and had fantastic growth structure.

I know the Tashkurgan male from this past season was leaning more toward Berries in scent like some Afghan strains do, and this season it was like.... Pina Colada lol.
