Summer here (California gold country) is high heat & low humidity so the peppers pack on a little heat tabasco does very well here peppers & even weed strains behavior is very much affected by your outdoor climate I've found this to be true even growing indoors
The northeast had a hot dry summer last year and my peppers benefited greatly. The jalapeños I grew were face melters. Of course I didn’t grow any weed outdoor last year when it would’ve been perfect weather ?‍♂️. Oh well, the peppers are still tasty

The climate has a lot to do with how hot the chilis can get today I got to sample a chili called the ring of fire this is a well balanced chili in that it grows similar to a cayenne but has more of a thai flavor & medium heat I believe it's from baker creek I believe this would make really good salsa or relish 20210920_160627.jpg

Agreed. I’m going to try and make a hot pepper relish with cayennes

Just about cleaned out the garden. Have a couple chiles to process...

Corpse Daddy - not trying to create more work for you, but those Poblano/Pasilla peppers sure would make a great Culichi sauce. There's plenty of recipes out there. I've even used it as the base for a baked mac-n-cheese. I think you'd like. A lady at work recommended tossing in a few Serrano's for an extra kick, but I'm figuring you've got that covered w/ what's on hand...!!! ????

Thanks for sharing man, that sounds awesome! I actually have all of the ingredients in my house funny enough. We've been making a ton of Mexican food.

I always use the biggest poblanos for Chile Rellenos but I never really know what to do with the smaller ones so I think I'm gonna make that this week.

Only grown a handful, but hoping to grow more and begin playing with crosses of peppers some day. Love spicy, curries, reapers bring it on!
So I realized I was hikacking @ricky_simples grow journal to rant about chile peppers, and since they seem to be a popular garden staple in these parts I decided to start a dedicated thread for all us hotheads...

@horribleherk @MacGydro @SecretSquirrel @Buck5050 @.Smoke and anyone else who loves the hot stuff, let's see what ya got!

Great! The more you grow, the more you'll notice that peppers have an incredible range of flavors. Fatalii crosses, 7 pot crosses, and habanero crosses are completely different animals in terms of flavor and sensation of heat. Like cannabis, I also love heirloom stuff from around the world- Hungarian Black, Aji Amarillo, Aji Rocoto, Aleppo, Hatch, etc.

Here's what I just snagged.

Aja Itosi
Biker Bill's Jalapeno
Large Orange Thai
Portokalova Fifironka
Serrano Los Lianos Market
Hatch
APS Yellow Cayenne
7-Pot Altantic Yellow
Sweet Red Banana
Aji Amarillo
Aji Margaritino
Datil x Lemon x 7-Pot Chaguanas Yellow
Fatalii Peach
Aji Dulce
Rocoto Chocolate X
Numex Lemon Spice Giant

I've got some housekeeping to do before then, but the pepper tent will rise again!

In my search for impossible to find birdseye oriental peppers I found a source right under my nose for just about any chili imaginable right at good old E-Bay they've got literally a cornucopia f chili seeds at reasonable prices from a multitude of sources I'll be running their gear this spring & will keep everyone posted it's been right under my nose the whole time
