The Hoe Down Symphony

"The Philosopher, is Stoned"
I cut the Slush Puppies from Cannavore, then Pirate Sweat will comes down tonight.
8Tth avenue genetics, Puck Lights are down and drying out also. And, the second half of that gripe of tester beans plants, are in a flower area now also.
I'll be starting some ESB from FDM, as it was an OT1 a Nigerian Skunk, I think.
My worm Bin I started on 10/3/ 2023, is now just castings. Those wee wonders chewed through coco husks, paper bits, cardboard bits, and about 75-80% of our kitchen scraps.
I had some small dish pans from a faded dream, filling 7 with medium and worms from the main tote. I tried to add approminatly 100+ to each bin.
last evening after small sifting the entire first tote, I had so MANY wigglers, I started another big tote, as I had enough medium ready to use.
My sifting way is sucking real bad, so I'll make something else until next worm harvest, in February, with some luck.

I've also worked in a few handfuls of my canna stalk bits, after shredding out in the pole building.
Have a great day everyone, or the best one you can!!

Looking good bro. I made a garden/ EWC sifter that may get you in the zone. I made a simple 1 x 4 rectangle that was 20% smaller than my collection tub. I have one with 1/2" x 1/2" rabbit cage wire fastened to the bottom, and another, that I use for worms has 1/4" x 1/4" wire on the bottom. When I do the final screening of my super soil, whatever won't sift through the 1/2" box, gets put in a bucket covered with water x 1". Put a lid on it and add it back to next month's compost start.
There's always a Stoney McGuyver project calling me!

Hey Roz, thanks for stopping in!! Your thread motivated me!!
OK, on the worm frontier, all my small pans are reveling, that so far, all seems just fine.
In my first tote, ( first one) I added food all willynilley like, all over the place. I went and revisited a few of the worm YouTubes, and doing the feeding on one end of the pan, like the first 3" to 4", right on the bottom, then a slice of cardboard, then back filled with crumbles.
All the worms were just tossed on top of each small pan, being so small.
They have found their food pantry. Sure looked like the amount of worms, I put in each tote. I even saw wee tiny wigglers, so I'm thinking they are reproducing, to what extent I have no idea of.
I had also laid worm crack on top of the 2 separated containers of the fresh worm castings from the first tote being split up. To see, if I left many worms behind. They worked into a piece of burlap soaked in vegetable rot juice, with a chunk of squash rind, under that. I got maybe another dozen or 2, and relocated them into existing small pans.
Being indoors, and close to main extraction filter, for the other side of my basement, I've been spraying some diluted LABS, all over the top of the pans, and on to the cardboard partition. A heavy mist, once every 10 days. I know they do do well with water, but I'm sure they do not do well with lack of it also.
I'll soon be using my own worm castings!!

So it's 2024 now, where to start. I hope all is well with your and yours, dear readers.
Worm bins, all got checked out the other night.
It's very hard to tell, but seems like a lot/most are still worming along, by disturbing their food piles , after uncovering the bedding from them.
Bedding seemed a touch dry to me, I sprayed some water and LAB's, and added some stuff from the rot box, and bit of Jims worm food.
The big tote, has worms mostly at each end, where the food is at.
So it is not the mass extinction I expected a few months ago, LOL!
The test beans for Comacus, Puck Lights, will becoming to and end soon, the second half the gripe of beans, have maybe few weeks left till cull.
I decided to flower out all the clones, I've been running this past or so to a clean slate.

In the mean time, starting some ESB from FDM seeds, an OT1 offering, Nigerian Skunk x Blue Berry I think.
Some have tailed an in starter mix, some are still wet toweled.
I'm wanting to run some hazes also this year. I've been following some haze threads, here and there.
Most are priced well above my pay rate, so I'm thrilled to get a few strains from another inmate on that site, that look wonderful to grow out.
I did not want end up, on the island of forgotten threads, LOL!!

I've had this weird idea in my head for a few years now, about ending the top down watering cycle.
Using salts, mix some up, fill my saucers up, and let the wicking action take over.
However, as I delve more into the Organics side of growing, getting dry fertilizers, to wick, is a fools errand.
I've talked with folks about this hiccup, and tried a few odd things to make it happen, only to drink deeply from the failure cup.
So, I'm so of in a daze reading a thread, about the various 3D printing units, their costs, what they can do, the sizes of finished items.
A really excellent thread, that made me realize, I'm probably not computer savvy enough, to go invest in one.
So, sort of to myself query, I posted, I wonder how, I'd get my idea to someone, that I had.
Instantly, I get a PM! We are going back and forth, and since I've never seen one, I told them, I'll make a mock up, if I can.

They sent me this. Can be fitted into a square pot, just do not use the spacers. Or attach it to 5 g bucket with the curve off sets.

Now I can get water, teas, dry ingredients, of course, made into a slurry first, then washed directly into the root mass.
I only had them make me one to check fitment. So simple to install.

I did order 4 more of these, since I'm starting a slew of beans, I'll have lots of plant matter to work with.

I finally have a few plants in 4" nursery pots. ESB, still have a couple of stragglers in starter cups, and few in 4"ers.
Some test beans for BobbyBudz, Powie Pink 2.0 and Powie Pineapple. The beans did endure some traveling concussions, sadly.

OK, now that January is behind us, and first round of cracking beans is complete.
So, I started some really exciting cultivars, to me anyway, 5 Bodhi Mango Hash Plant's , 5 JPS Sheelavathi, then some unknowns haze plants to me, from hours and hours of reading the various haze threads, I learned of StoneGuru, and some of his work looked crazy cool. From him, NL84 ghost x SoulMate is RFK Jr, then his Cuban Black Haze 222 x Silk S, and his Alpine 1.0 for a hazy daze hoedown this year!

Well my time testing the Puck Lights is coming very quickly now, after scoping their nether regions, seeking what we like to see now, for the long glass nap.
They fit a small area perfectly, as you can see, I decided to not strip n rip the leaf, on this last round. Can not really say why, I just was not feeling it.

As I was selecting pics, looking back on the first half I cut back in December, are so green!
Same medium, same light source, the only change LAB's, was added to the watering tote, on this round all through their cycle.
Got to ponder on that a bit.
First cut plants:

I did start my free gripe of Rhubarb S1's last night!! These came with the 2024 calendar, so much Thanks to Hydro red.
Mango Hash Plants are doing well.
Most of the Alpine 1.0's are cupped now.
The RFK Jr's are cupped.
The cbh 222 x Silk S, are cupped now.
JPS's Sheelavathi are cupped also.
Will soon start up potting ESB, and @BobbyBudz his Powie Pink 2.0 and Powie Pineapple plants.
So yeah, lots going on!

OK, the veg room, I had to set it up, for up potting and holding all I want to run this year.
The January plants are now in 1 g pots, ESB's are doing ok. The Powie Pink 2.0 Powie Pineapple is rocking along.
They are in my medium I mix up, or fertilized.
The February starts, some are still in cups, and some got up potted to 28 oz cups I found at a paper outlet. Very handy for the stretchy haze plants.
They want to get all spindly, shooting upward, just when they start to fall over, I bury them up to the leaf, so all that stalk roots.
Alpine 1.0, then CBH222 x Silk S, then RFK Jr. then Sheelavithi, and of course Rhubarb S1, so far all 3 of mine put leaves out, 1 may still be an eraser head.
All in this batch, just got some kelp water the other day.
I'm also really trying to to only bottom feeds, *water/tea/organics * feeding the root zones this year.
I just got my RZF's from the printer yesterday, and they will applied to larger pots very soon.

I was fluffing the worm bins, the other day. The top crumbles seemed dry to me, so I'd pull a few hand fulls of the crumbles, and soak them, and the inner card board covers, I soaked also, while I dug into the ends where I feed them at.
Most of the food was gone, they have lots of castings, but not ready to harvest that just yet. The big tote, has worms all through it now.
The 7 small bins, also have lots of worms. I do not seem to have lost as many as I expected to murder as I learn about keeping them.
They seem a lot fatter also, I hope I do not give them heart disease!

Well it has been a minute.
Since my last update, that table filled up.
The Powie Pinks 2.0 and Pineapple, and the ESB's are now almost ready in 18/6 veg tent to go into flower.
3 24 2024 036 powie pink 2.0 pineapple ESB.JPG
The veg table plants, finally got into 1 g pots, and just last day or so, I set a couple trays up, to hold the Sheelavathi's, Mango Hash plants, RFK Jr, cbh222 x silk s, Alpine 1.0, and my freebies' from the calendar sale, Rhubarb S1.
Still in the 20/4 light setting, just into a tray for controlled flooding of the pots.
These 3 were one the edge of my table, and I decided to move them.
