The One That Got Away...

Trichitect

Canna-bacchus incarnate
I thought it would be interesting to share our stories of phenos that we loved and lost. I'm sure there are many of us out there that had a particular plant that was very special slip away, I know I have.

Here's my story:
Many years ago I I got my hands on a small bag, like an oz of mids, no idea what strain, back then no one called by names. I saved about 10 or 12 seeds and grew them out in 1 gal containers, and the bud was about the same as the original, but I noticed just a couple of male flowers a the very bottom, and I ended up getting another 10 or 12 seeds total. I kept repeating this for about 6 cycles. Side note, this was long before legalization, and I knew nothing about breeding etc at the time. The bud wasn't bad and never got fully seeded, so I just ran with it.
After around the 6th cycle a plant popped out that was absolutely incredible, it had perfect structure, great leaf to bud ratio, and the trichomes we're super tall with huge bulbous heads, it was literally like smoking bubble hash. I'm positive it would have been an epic washer. The one thing it lacked was great terps, but you can't win them all. It checked so many boxes for me that I was blown away.
I didn't take clones and didn't know revegging was an option back then. I gave a couple of the seeds to my friend and he got one exactly like it, and he didn't clone it either! I never grew or saw another plant like it. Fucking that one up is what really made me dig in and try to find another winner, but the hunt continues...

Thanks for reading.
I hope some of you will share a story as well.

I agree, when you lose a great one, you start digging. I've quit holding any strain for over 2 years. There is so much amazing diversity out there, I force myself to keep changing things up. I do make beans from my faves, before they get culled, so I can bring them back.
Decades ago I grew out some random seeds and found a stellar specimen. I called her the Lemon Laugh, It made everything funny, like hilarious funny! Back then I didn't breed or reveg either, Sure would love to find her again! Happy hunting...

a friend about 20 years ago was growing a strain called "green [something]", i can't remember the second word, which unfortunately narrows it down to at least a thousand possible strains. it had a very specific and intense smell so it stands out, but i have never seen/smelt it again. i lost touch with the friend and have no means to contact him so i will never know the name that way, but i am always keeping my nose out for it. this was many years before i grew my own, otherwise i would have kept those genetics banked forever.

the search continues.

Good luck on that search ?. If you can lay out the major attributes of that strain, we might be able to help you narrow down that search considerably. Give us a few hints!

Yep like G said, the green ribbon would fit the timeline probably. Might also look at Green Goblin or just Green Crack.
