"The pHenohunter Community Preservation Project"

Community Engagement - Project pHenohunter!
pHenohunting domesticated landrace, and heirloom genetics
Mission:

To build, breed, preserve, learn, discover and collect lines of land race/heirloom varieties for breeders, chuckers, and pHenohunter’s around the world. Taking cultivation back to the “roots”!

Opportunities:

There are going to be many opportunities throughout this project to learn, grow, and read/listen to many diverse thoughts. Different aspects of cannabis horticulture will be discussed that you may, or may not have been exposed to already. Open collaboration, and thoughtful debate will help solidify the most sought-after phenotypes, traits, and structures throughout the genetic lines selected for discovery. Not only that, but the contribution made to the whole cannabis community!

Also, there are other parts of this project where a more advanced understanding of horticulture, and some specific skill sets may be required. We will lean on the breeders and others that the community feels may provide the correct context for the path forward. There will be nothing but open, and honest debate. No drama. Part of this project is about the free flow of thought and ideas, and to grow the knowledge, skills needed for cultivation.

This is just the beginning!

I will be donating 10-15 landrace and heirloom varieties to the community for the start of this project. Some of these have a limited count. Other lines have also been donated by forum members also. Shout outs to: Phylex, SCjedi, GCG, Gentlemancorpse, and I know I am missing others, and when I remember I will call you out too. Donations are always accepted to add to the pHenohunter playbook. At some point a pHenoMeister will maintain the pH bean stock. Once stock from preservation runs are at a healthy level, these varieties will be available for a pHeno Run! Chuckers will document phenotypes, and traits according to the variety selected to be ran. Some lines have 5 beans or less, and may be more difficult to preserve. In those cases, members who are known to possess, and exhibit the skills necessary to increase that success rate will be chosen, if they are interested. Popping all the beans provided will be required to preserve genetic diversity.

Basic Chucker Requirements
  • Germination of the whole pack
  • Deal with longer flowering schedules
  • Space, area and time to run open pollination if possible
  • Able to sex and flower a plant
  • Understanding of single branch pollination/open pollination
  • Able to collect, and store pollen
  • Able to pollinate female flowers in creation of F2’s
  • Successfully separate seed for stock from material.

I would be interested in adding Malana to the pHenohunter library for preservation for sure @Lockedin. :flame: Just hit me up whenever.
Will do!
I'm really looking forward to making hash from a legend like that, and a seed run to make sure that strain stays around for a while longer!

I just need to make sure I have the space for a few big, LONG flowering plants - I've gone 11 weeks once, I can only imagine a 16ish week Sativa...
(at some point, I do have a thought towards crossing Malana x Herijuana - I'm thinking of a nice, medically effective strain for concentrates like hash / live resin)

Ok, I'll put this here for you brainy folks to consider.
I recieved a , i think a 5 pack of Afgan mix beans along with the Afgaan 90's.
I also have 3 or 4 more packs of "Afgan mix" beans from other sources.
This is what inquiring minds want to know.
Should, could these packs be ran together in open pollination and be a source for stock??

I'm not brainy, but the words I highlighted - Afgan Mix / Afgan Mix Other Source / Open Pollination / Source for stock.

From that I see a Wide, but "Afgan" net being cast.
If that's the case - why not? With that large, yet "directional" gene pool you would have the makings of an "Ultimate Afghani" Pheno hunt!

2cents

"Afgan Mix" and "Afgan 90's" are two different things. Ain't nothing wrong with preserving either of these but bringing them together would be hybridizing and not preserving. IMO

I was thinking about this with the G13's I'm trying to get together. I want to run each pack separately and run the best females but also reverse her and pollinate the rest of the pack to do an increase. I also though of then doing a mashup of all the best females in each pack to see what comes up also.

So, my thinking would be run each pack separately from each source for an initial increase, this way you could get an idea of what companies seem to be offering the best beans in terms of germ rates, vigor, phenos'.

All of this is based on the time and space you have available, it's not a perfect world and I'm sure whatever you choose to do will pay dividends going forward! Thankyou Skunky ?
