Hey everybody. I'm MTR and I suck at computers. Guess I'm polite, white trash and a small time hobby gardener/experimentalist who's got a couple grows under his belt. Disabled USAF vet and a grateful med patient in 3 states, legal cultivator in 2... LOL.

What brought me to pH was researching different chuckers and seed vendors. Checking reps and reviews, this place looked to be the best, the most humble. I like that. I never joined forums before, as I'm more of a grower than a shower, LOL but I've always been a good kind of envious to the good guys who showcase their talents and help others learn their way. Good information helps everyone.

Myself, I try to focus on quality first with efficiency and stealth vying for a close second. I've never grown in anything larger than 2 gal pots or used bulbs brighter than 600w. As you can hopefully see, if I post this right, I prefer and practice the SOG method shown below. In my limited experience and most humble opinion, it's the most efficient indoor technique.

This garden is a few years ago, kinda sloppy cause the other side was still under construction. I cobbled this room together in the basement of a rental. One side consisted of two Hortilux 600w sodiums in Super Sun 2's with e-ballasts wired 240v using a CAP MLC 4X. It was gassed via a GreenAir CDDS-2 fuzzy logic controller. The roughly 10x10 space was cooled with an $99 Frigidaire 5000 btu window shaker. Keep in mind this was a Michigan basement so only 2-3 lights could run in the summer but 4 in winter. I used a Frigidaire dehumidifier with the hose attachment in a 5gal bucket so I didn't have to drain the res all the time. I grew 16 two gallon pots per 3x3 table, drain to waste. Feed Feed Flush. Repeat. This particular grow, in one table I experimented with 25 smaller square pots which worked very well, however I have a 4 part Super Sexy Soil mix that just sucks to mix for 25 pots. I went back to 16 after. What can I say?.. It's easier to be lazy.

Even though this was an experiment and semi perpetual, both tables produced 3.3 units under 1200w. I was pretty proud of that. You can do the math on 2400w.

Lots of ways to do it. This is mine. Always open to improvements. Hopefully this didn't look like a "humble brag" as the kids call it.

Just know I look forward to interacting with you guys.

Real quick... Big thanks to the DCSE crew for their repeatedly impeccable service and selection. Respect to the chuckers putting in the work, especially the guys who create and KEEP good stuff affordable, namely Brisco, Useful, Hazeman and the recently departed BOG. I can't wait to illustrate these guys efforts. Perhaps you'll look forward to seeing them grown humbly by the manthatreeks.

Wow, I feel so emotional right now. Anybody got a cranberry juice?

You guys have been super welcoming, My lack of forum know-how may be holding me back on reciprocating the love. I'm shootin' from the hip here. Here's an attempt at multiple quotes.

I appreciate the support and good words for DCSE and Brisco's. Cob's CC has had several fine grows documented, but a run with Kelly is long due. Expectations are ....what's the word .... high

Thanks Meatman. Best 6 years of my life. Sometimes I wish I would've gone 20 for the retirement, but hindsight's 20/20. On the bright side, I probably ended up ahead of a few that lost half or more to child support and alimony so I try not to dwell on it... lol
Welcome man! Looking forward to see more of your SOG methods if you still practice the same growing style? Cranberry juice on deck ?
Yeah man! SOG is where it's at for me! I'm no longer in that state, so I may have been in a "grey area" with the numbers. ne of the reasons I was comfortable posting those pics, although I got high and super paranoid about it later that night!!! But yeah, I got a little something coming up.
Be sure to check out @Bubby's n da lab 's thread today for some Cob's Candy pics.
I did and that man is on fire. ? Props to Bubby for being able to manage all those strains and have them look as good as they do. Thanks for the heads up. Kelly Maxwell about to hit the stage!

I too am anxious to see what yer SOG plans are MTR. Talk about size pots and such when you have time. I'm probably a month away from anything being mature enough to even take cuts, but I want to be on point with my step-by-step method before then. Only my ten Slymers are fems so there's gonna be extra work involved... and I'd hate to kill a potentially awesome male so "what to do, what to do?" ?

I hear ya Dan... Generally, full tilt runs would be 16 - 2 gal fabric pots per 3x3 for me, but you can see I squeezed 25 slightly smaller, slightly taller square plastic pots once. It worked well but made soil mixing more laborious. I also ran 16 square "perfect pots" a few times as well. Those were super nice but when the fabric "smart pots" came out, that was a game changer!

I forgot what size tables you're running, but if you're going with 4x4's you can run 25 - 2 gal pots per table, or 50 per 4x8. With a dialed environment and the proper strain, 2 lbs +per 4x4 under 1000w or equivalent is possible with ease. Some claim the hot ticket these days is supposed to be hanging 3 ea 315w CMH over a 4x8, although I dunno. I ran a top shelf Hortilux 315 CMH over a 3x3 and think I prefer a sodium.

I've been fortunate enough to work for some really good hydro shops through the years. Doing so gave me the ability to run different products and set ups but it didn't take long to find the efficiency in SOG style gardens. It's the "hydro shop guy" in me that wants to help others grow bigger, greener gardens and stay current with new tech and techniques. I have to be careful though, there's a big difference between a customer coming to me for advice, and me giving my unwanted input on a forum.

OMW to check the patients in the ICU and noticed I had a reply. I had to pull over and give ya props MTR. If I were a teenager you'd be my new BFF ?! Tables are 4x4 and one per light (8). I was thinking 25 plants per table using square pots (9x9) that hold 2.5gal according to Hydrofarm's site. Was pretty sure I'd go soil but "not closed-minded". I have a 50-site EZ Cloner on hand so I should be able to keep up with cuts for a "staggered perpetual" I think. Thanks so much for that detailed reply bro!

A "water only" mix? Do tell so I can "benchmark" it please. I did a dumpster fire half ass attempt to empty a bunch of half used bags of potting soils and organic dry ferts... NO SCIENCE AT ALL. I mixed it really good and tired it up in my garage. I BET I NEVER USE IT ? because I can't even replicate it.

If you’re interested in making your own super soil mix, this is a good place to start.

Edit: Kinda makes me think we should have a similar thread here.

There are a few of them on here, @Evergreen posted up a good soil recipe awhile back. I think @J. James put some good soil threads up as well. I'd have to go and look again, but I think there were a few others too.
