Uncle Ben's instant shrooms

I came across this technique a couple weeks ago and decided to try it out. It seems simple but understandably also realize it comes with higher contamination risk, especially with using spores.

I inoculated two bags of uncle bens instant brown rice. Screenshot_20211024-150350_Chrome.jpg
The bags come with rice that is fully cooked, sterilized and plenty of moisture. You just basically sanitize the bags and prep material, inject spores, tape hole with paper tape/micropore then make some holes for gas exchange covered with paper tape.

Let that sit till mycelium is established then you can fruit in bag or move to container. Im gonna go into container with coco coir. Its a high likelihood hood that these attempts will fail but ill try again then try some jars.

The bags are golden teachers and stargazers. Stargazers are smaller mushies an old/ancient variety that shaman probably ingested hundreds of years ago.

Theyre in a humidity dome in a cabinet were they will be left alone for a couple weeks before I check for mycelium/contamination.

Nice. Shrooms are so cool. On the mushroom documentary on netflix with paul stamets they hypothesize that early hominids could’ve consumed psylocibin mushrooms which contributed to our human brain development. Interesting to think we might not be here if it hadn’t been for magic mushrooms

This is amazing...who knew. Just watch out for the little ones. There is some kind of inverse law at work. I had 3 teeny full ones that was 1.2g that was pretty much like what Will Shatner went through going into space but i got to spend more time up there.

Boomers....sense has left the building bzzzz pop pop. I think you will love the golden teachers. Of the 5 i have tried yeti (an albino golden teacher) and golden teachers are my favorite. Very visual and audible..

I was searching for how to start, thinking I had to get jars and such. Then came across this method and curiosity got the best of me.

Now I'm thinking about finding some food mushrooms to grow as well.

Both bags are definitely forming mycelium. Should be ready to do the break and shake, to help mix mycelium around all the rice, by Friday. Let it go a few more days to complete the inoculation then transfer to a tub with coco coir.
Stargazers, you can see white patch top left towards middle.

Golden teachers, harder to see but top middle has nice white patch too.

Last winter, I delved back into the realm myself, after not growing any since before the turn of the century.
This is incredible, I was on the brink of a reload of supplies from Midwest, but I just might fire a shot at this first.
I still have a live jar of liquid culture.

Thats why I decided to try this way 1st. I was getting ready to buy jars and everything when I found this method mentioned.

So far it has cost me
rice bags 2 × $1.98 = $3.96
Spores syringe 2 × $10 = $28 w/shipping
Micropore/paper tape = $1.98
Coco coir 1 small bag $10
Plastic tubs 2 × $4 = $8

Roughly $52 and I'll be able to get an ounce plus from each tub, especially if I get a couple flushes.

52 bucks for 2 oz of boomers is a steal of a deal. :D And an oz of boomers lasts a lot longer than an oz of most other things so you are stocked up a while.
Im being optimistically presumptuous on my potential harvest weight. It is doable but I still got a long way to go till fruiting will start. Then I'll be able to gauge whats good.

It'll be awesome to see and smell these shrooms/mycelium as the adventure unfolds.
