Alrighty, on to some flower pics then. We’ll start with the latest additions first, and ripen up from there.
The following rack of gallon pots was added to flower for sexing March 11th-25th, when they were returned to continue vegging. Bloomed in veg for a week or so more, and got Qtip pollenated in the meantime by an Orange Julius F2 by HydroRed.
Every plant seem to have taken, so I should have at least a pack of each to add to the muthachuckin collection.
They’d just started stretching back out vegetatively a couple days before being added back into flower, Apr 6th, so they’ll probably throw some slightly funky structured buds, but would otherwise likely be nice and tight.
If they go through another 3 week stretch phase, there might be headroom trouble.
Top to bottom, Left to right, Labels at main growth tips of each, far as I can tell:
Watermelon Delight #2, Don Johnson #2
Orange Julius F2 #2, Orange Julius F2 #5
Don Johnson #1, Skunk#1 #1
This solo rack, added Apr 1st or 2nd was full of these Golden Tiger S1s and Skunk#1 cups to see how a “wall o green” would work out.
Well, at a week in bloom now, the GTs haven’t shown anything definitive yet. No huge surprise here, especially if they’re late starting sativa gals, I guess. Daily checks from day 6 til sex shows.
The Sk1s, however have started sexing already.
In fact, I removed and sequestered all but 1 for letting their nuts hang already. The last just hasn’t showed definitively yet. Hopefully It’s a gal, but I do already have 1 female going, so at least I’ll have one example of the line in a couple months.
So, yeah, I was definitely bummed once I started seeing all those boys and removing them from the tent.
Then I figured I’d check em out a little closer and try to narrow them down, as far as who to possibly chuck with. I certainly don’t need so damn many, after all, right?
They’re all pretty close looking, growth wise, so I started giving them stem rubs.
Now, granted, they’re basically still in veg, only 1wk bloom, but their rubs are similar, and none are sweet at the moment. The first one I checked reminded me most of garlic bread. Not the heavier roasted, almost burned garlic like Chem D seems to throw, but a slightly milder garlic first, and buttery afterward.
The only girl I have so far started out the first couple weeks of sexing smelling fruity (almost Juicy Fruit gum), with a savory, oniony note after. It’s lost the fruit lately, and is just savory now. Can’t wait to see how she finishes…
Maybe they’re liking the Sulphur they’re getting, and expressing with the onion / garlic smells. Who knows…
Back to the males…Now I have to decide what I want to do with them.
Pollen collection, and hitting a little of everything is almost a given, but I need to decide whether I want to collect and mix all of it together, or try to do selective branch pollination with each male.
What would you do??
Golden Tiger S1 top 2 rows, Sk1 next 2 rows. Pic taken yesterday, before most Skunks were moved.
This is the mystery monster donor plant, at 3.5 weeks. I can’t guess yet, based on the smell, whether she’s Wedding Cake, Apple Fritter, or Gary Payton. Supposedly, she’s one of them.
The smell so far is like a spicy perfume, like I’ve picked up in other cookie crosses, but since they’re pretty much all some flavor of cookies I haven’t grown, and there’s still 6 weeks or so to develop the final profile, who knows.
Anyone wanna venture a guess yet from their experience with any of said cuts?
She takes up 1 wall of the 4x4, and was about 6” from the 1kw at her closest point.
As you can see, she flew a little too close to the sun, with bleaching leaves, and a fried top. Oops!
She’s been moved back, and the fried top nug removed.
Chopped it up the next morning, and put it in the volcano, but as sticky as she was at 3 whole weeks, she didn’t do much, effect wise. Not a big surprise, but worth a shot with what would’ve otherwise been tossed.
Mystery Donor Whole plant:
These are 2 of the same cut of Skunky VA, at 5 weeks bloom. One is in a 2 gallon pot, and the other in a 3 or 4 gallon, I think. The larger one, in the larger pot, is closer to the light, and was bleaching a bit. I bumped up the food a tad, and moved her back a tad, and will keep an eye on her.
