Story Telling, Notes, and Observations: Part Five - The Final Chapter
Moon Dragon Bx1 - (Hyper Dragon x Moontang Mystery)
- This one was unquestionable because the label was properly marked. I simply pollinated the selected Moon Dragon female with pollen from the original Moontang Mystery male.
- It remained quite vigorous. It reached a total of 9.5' in the 10 gallon fabric pot.
- All branching races vertically keeping pace. Even the lowest branches aren't too far off from the total height
- Aside from vigor, flowering was slow. There was a good portion of time when it was feeling like it was going to be a bust. The aroma was mild, flowering seemed like it might be a poor yielder, and trichome development seemed non-existent.
- Flowering seems like it's finally gaining some momentum and we might be turning a corner. She's obviously a late bloomer and decides when she wants to show up to the party
- She's surprisingly stacking very nicely now. Nearly top to bottom using all 9.5' with very little unused space. Once she begins to swell it'll be interesting. She might end up becoming the biggest yielder after all
- Trichome development has finally presented itself and is beginning to look more promising.
- That mild aroma that seemed similar to HD x GOW is nothing like HD x GOW now. After rubbing the flowers they're completely different. The smell is very traditional with nothing that truly stands out to try and describe it. (Creamy, Grape, Blueberry, Floral, Etc.) It's like someone just handed me an 1/8 of chronic in a plastic bag and it smells like some really good weed. (Note: My nose is by far my weakest skill. I try my best, but I'm terrible and usually rely on others input. I'll know more in a couple of months once I start getting feedback.)
- Considering she's been taking her sweet time, I'm currently expecting her to finish sometime in November.
Pics are from some side branching at approx. 4'-5'. Sorry, I'm not pulling out the ladder and haven't even seen the tops yet.
HD x GOW F2 - (Hyper Dragon x God O War)
- It appears my assumptions and selection may have been spot on with this one. The HD x GOW father was a very strong resemblance to the selected HD x GOW mother who was selected because she had a very strong resemblance to the Hyper Dragon mother who was used. The HD mother appeared to express a heavy Sour Kush influence and considering the Sour Kush was buried in her gene pool, one could argue she was an outlier.
- Definitely kept her Kush structure
- She's remained short at only 6.5' in a 10 gallon fabric pot
- Very strong stalk, massive knuckles, strong branching that stretches vertically. She looks like she won't need any support at all.
- Minimal to non-existent lateral side branching. Nothing but fully stacked colas from top to bottom on each branch.
- Fast to enter flower
- Quick trichome development, gooey, and very well covered
- A very strong, powerful nose. Best described as a nose burning sour, skunky, pine and spice with a possible floral undertone. The aroma is addicting and will keep you coming back using expletives to describe how much you like it. I wish everyone here could smell it.
- This one has some seeds present. It either pollinated itself or was pollinated by the Terp x GOW male I was flowering around the corner. I have been diligently looking for intersex issues with all of the plants throughout the entire grow. I haven't found one nanner, but there's nothing to say that I might have missed something somewhere. Aside from the Skunky D, the plants are lush, and or tall, and caged.
Pics right now just don't do her justice. Harvest, then dried and trim should hopefully picture her better. These pics are from the lowest branches stretching vertically since they're the easiest to see the flowers. The other, centered branching in the cage is too lush to try and get close up photos.
Skunky D F2 - (Chem D x Skunky Brewster)
- I've determined from my experience with Skunky D, the observations from this grow, this investigation into my old journals, and my findings, that this unlabeled Skunky D father was pollinated with the Skunky D #9 male I had selected.
- She was structurally sound, and exactly like every other Skunky D I've grown.
- She was the shortest in my grow coming in at 6'
- She exhibited early trichome development becoming visible in veg.
- She had the strongest nose and very early on
- The aroma was a pungent, foul, poop, and skunk. Smelling it would certainly make you feel it in the Xiphoid process.
- This was my favorite girl but I fucked her off with mistake after mistake and she never forgave me. She's taken the brunt of it and certainly isn't anywhere near her fullest potential. I don't think I've ever grown a single plant this poorly. It was that bad. Not to mention the caterpillars have loved her though they're losing that battle.
Durban Moon - (Durban Poison x ??????)
- While I can't definitively say who the father is, I have nailed it down to either Moon Dragon or Moontang Mystery. The problem is the timeline. I was using pollen from Moontang Mystery to Bx and very well could have decided to pollinate a branch on the Durbans. But I also had a Moon Dragon male selected by the time I was growing the Durbans. So it's a coin flip on who the father could be. Even after looking through what I found.
- Vigor remains strong. She's topped out at 8.5-9' in a 10 gallon fabric pot.
- Strong branching both vertically and laterally. She's a big bush
- Extremely slow to flower, she's the slowest by far. It feels like she's at least a few weeks behind the others. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if she takes up most of November while I expect to harvest Skunky D F2 and HD x GOW F2 around the 3rd week in October.
- So far I've been the least inspired by her.
- The nose has been so weak it's been hard to pull anything from her. Which is odd. She's from my Durban #2 which had a strong, sweet, bubblegum smell.
- Of the Durbans #3 was my true selection because she smelled of Pine and didn't have any candy, sweet, bubblegum, or cotton candy like the others and #4 had the flavor pull through that was very pronounced. With that said, I have seeds from the three but just happened to plant the one labeled Durban #2. I expected more so I'm disappointed there has been much presence of a nose.
- Trichome development so far has been non-existent but there's a little just beginning to form now
- Flowers are finally starting to develop and she's looking like she could end up becoming a heavy yielder considering how much more time she's probably going to need
- Fingers crossed my early disappointment is only due to impatience and she'll eventually surprise me after she has more time to develop
That concludes this investigation into trying to determine who the fathers were on the poorly labeled containers. While it probably irked me not knowing more than it should, it motivated me to look through my older posts and old journals and then transfer that data here to more relevant times. So it probably wasn't time wasted. At least for me in the event I ever want to look back for information again. So glad it's over though. lol
