I learned something last winter while ice fishing and was stupidly slow to apply it in other applicable situations. Being out in -34C windchills all day today, doing tasks requiring me to have at least one bare hand, I was reminded:
Nitrile gloves are amazing in cold weather. The more wet and/or windy it is, the more effective the gloves are. They keep hands dry while handling fish, and today, allowed me to take pics and videos without frostbite.
Under a heavier glove, they are fantastic, but even alone they make a big difference, protecting from wind and evaporation.
I was out taking pics today, and every time I moved to a new position, I would have to put my exposed hand into a mitt while walking, and still stop halfway through the task to warm up/regain dexterity.
After I remembered the nitrile gloves, I was able to complete the entire 360 degrees of views without stopping or tucking away the hand with only a nitrile glove on it.
Who knows, maybe this is common knowledge and I'm late to the party, but I found it to greatly extend my ability to effectively use my hands in extremely cold conditions.
