I can not help much on the bulb. I have only used the Phillips 315w/930. Price is a bit of a mute point with the CMH bulb considering the longevity of the bulb. Only thing i can think of right off is to try and locate the ballast outside the grow area to help with heat. Hard to find a deal on those set ups. On the solar set up i was hoping to keep everything on the back of the house which faces south but additional panels were needed to meet the needs of the house. I wanted to purchase the system but the 52,000. price tag discouraged me.
You have to want solar for other than financial reasos to justify it imo.

After having two different sellers on e-bay cancel the order because of shipping restrictions this is the response i got from Botanicare. Actually worked out well finding a distributor fairly close it is like half price when you take away the shipping charges.
There is an Est Coast specific sku that must be used, and that is:

HGC714811 (10102-30005)
Botanicare Cocogro Loose 1.75 cu ft East Coast (65/Plt)

But there are no restrictions in ******** to speak of on CocoGro (the little triangle with warning sign next to the product name indicates any restricted sales areas), so must be unique with the seller you are using. Always best to buy at brick and mortar hydroponic stores to avoid paying high shipping costs, and risking shipping damage as well.

You can find a physical dealer location near you here: Find an Authorized Dealer | Hawthorne Gardening Company

Thank you
Wierd, guessing the resellers would appreciate knowing, also guessing tjey aren't mfg. authorized distribution since botanicare dosen't seem interisted in letting them know they can ship, but rather refer you to a brick and mortar.

I was wondering why so many pannels but it makes sense they wanna cover as much of the roof as possible vs. just meet the energy needs of the house.

I know these cmh suck down a little more juice than leds so now @Capt. C has some room to expand.

This was a bit of an impulse buy and may have been slight financial disadvantage for the unit.
I looked at piecing a system together but unless I went to several diffrent stores (online) I couldn't put together a system like this for the price. Thought about running an open lamp on socket but I simply ame not going to grow enough plants big enough to take advantage of the system.amd justify the risk imo.
The bulb (NIB) also has a manufacture date of 2016? and when looking again I am not sure I like the lamp as much thinking the horilux hits the uv better, I notice the base of the philips lamp says uv block. Just looking at the construction the extra glass layer on the phillips is also concerning, both lamps are rated for open install in any position, so in the end I could have gotten the horrilux unit for about what I spent on the phantom and will probably spend on a horrilux lamp. One benifit I think this has is the remote ballast. Have not sparked a gas lamp in 20 years so if anyone (@Capt. C ?) has any advice I'd sure appreciate it.
I've run both the Philips and the Hortilux bulbs now and honestly they've both been great. The Philips got me about 25k hours before I noticed a decline in the results, haven't had the Hortilux long enough to know how it will hold up. Interesting observation, the Philips actually seemed to make the plants bulk up more and actually threw less heat, but the hortilux seems to bring out more frost and color expressions.... that's far from a definitive statement since there's a lot of other factors that could have led to those results but I thought it was interesting

@Gentlemancorpse do you remember APPX how many flower cycles you got out of the Phillips bulb. I might be on my 5th cycle on my original Phillips now.

I attempted to simulate a cmh using leds (red and uva/b/c monos and some whites) imo I got real close to the color but the intensity of the uv was such that even limiting to 4hrs a day buds were too tight. I pulled all mono leds from my setup, although they offer much to mess around with for spectrum I have concluded they are not worth it for me. I would like to try some of the new red phosphor stuff that is coming out and would like to see a similar approach in uv leds where there is wider spectral distribution.

Thanks for the input on lamps I will likely end up trying the hortilux as the diferences you describe are features heavily influenced by spectrum and uv in particular imo.

Dang, you've got a he'll of a system going in, holy you are. Lol.
That's like double what I've got on my house, bad ass Capt. ???
@JL2G this is what they are putting on the side of the house to operate the solar system. I already have two large panels on the other side of that window. In fact it makes me a little nervous as that is the room i sleep in  . The 4" pvc pipe you see is my sewer vent and 8' above that is my exhaust for two different charcoal filters. Poor guy wiring the panels has a cornucopia of smells:whistle: 101_0469.JPG

First time trying the DNA sex test on the plants and thought i would post a short tutorial on it. I am testing three different strains here and one of the strains has two different leaners ( OS A 1 and OS B 1 ) The company i used is called Delta Leaf Labs. The tests are 10 dollars per plant plus 8 dollars for all 18 samples shipped back to them. Maybe a bit of novelty with a small grower like me but the fact that i can potentially eliminate male plants 2 weeks after sprout is pretty exciting. The instructions were good so i had no problem there. The hardest part for me was holding a steady hand to cut the cotyledon leaf off from the main stem. Sharp scissors and a shaky hand right next to the main stalk made me a little nervous . The real key to everything going smoothly was having things organized and ready to go. I took the samples in groups of 4 and 5 at a time. Took me less than a hour to collect and seal up 18 samples. So it's off to the lab for testing. @spyralout if you think this post should be somewhere else go ahead and move it please. 101_0514.JPG 101_0518.JPG 101_0523.JPG 101_0525.JPG 101_0527.JPG

We don't have a section that fits this. If this is something that is starting to unfold (testing) we definitely can put something up. Let me think about this and discuss amongst the staff.

Will you grow out any for confirmation? I have seen reports of inaccurate results for these things.

I had not given it much thought @SSGrower . I was very careful not to contaminate any of the samples. Will most likely go ahead and toss the males and hope for the best. Of course this statement is put out by Delta but read worthy anyhow.
How accurate is the testing?
OUR TRACK RECORD FOR CORRECTLY CONFIRMED RESULTS IS OVER 99.9%. THE TESTING PROCEDURE (QPCR) DOES NOT PRODUCE FALSE RESULTS, HOWEVER, RARE HUMAN ERRORS IN SAMPLE COLLECTION AND/OR PROCESSING CAN LEAD TO AN INCORRECT RESULT. TO CONTROL FOR THIS WE RUN EVERY SAMPLE AT LEAST TWICE TO ENSURE NO HUMAN ERROR OCCURS DURING TESTING. FOR WHATEVER REASON, IF YOU THINK THAT ONE OF OUR RESULTS WAS INCORRECT, PLEASE CONTACT US AND WE WILL RETEST YOUR SAMPLE FREE OF CHARGE (YOU CAN EVEN SUBMIT A NEW SAMPLE).

OUR PROCESS WAS DEVELOPED USING RESEARCH FROM THE WORLD'S LEADING SCIENTISTS. A LIBRARY OF PEER REVIEWED JOURNAL ARTICLES DOCUMENTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF CANNABIS RESEARCH CAN BE FOUND AT HTTP://STRAIN.WORKS/

Chikamasas for the win :D i know those snips anywhere.

Today i squeezed 10 rosin bags...all thrip feasted purple dream but they were a decent size. i filled a jar right to the top..5 grams.

It is wonderful....super haze flavor with the vauguest hint of berry grapes but i put it on the volcano pad and filled 3 bags and i am too stoned to smoke 2 and 3...i will peservere as soon as im done with this ! power through it how baked can you get.

i culled 4 plants because....no more weak or sick anythng for me....if its suspect it dies. Simple. This is severe now because i am doing a reset.

My beauty organic growing book comes today. Cold Pressed Neem and Aloe Juice, 4 oz bottles of essential oils, 1 gallon of commercial grade insectiside soap and i have the other ingredients in stock. This will amount to about 2 years worth of IPM (Integrated Pest Management) which is part of my new gardening philosphy.

I am excited about it. I have the power to fix this forever and I am going to do that very thing.

And i am in charge of my destiny.....lets steer the ship in the right direction and grow this shit !

Soup cans are on the horizon and im going into the pringles promised land !!!!

Have a truly great day on this all hallowed eve.

Just a quick follow up on the testing. Results in 6 days and that includes a weekend so very fast. @Schwaggy P Chocolate Crack 10/10 on germination and 7 females out of 10. Cindy 99 (mosca seeds) 2/2 on germination both female. @GthaEnigma Oilspill 6/8 on germination and 3 females out of 6. Oilspill worked out perfect as 3 of the plants were weak ( partially my fault) and the 3 weak ones turned out male so i was glad to cull them. IMG_20201106_080520.jpg
