I am setting up my first grow tent ( i am coming out of the closet) LOL. My question is i just installed the new filter and exhaust fan on the overhead of the tent with 3 ratchet type hangers. This filter and fan probable weight around a 100 lbs. This is a regular heavy duty Gorilla grow tent and i have yet to hang my light so that will be additional weight. Do i need to rethink this and put the filter on the floor of the tent. I did beef up the overhead some with 2 additional pieces of metal conduit to hang the filter and light. Any thoughts?

What size tent is it? The true Gorilla tents are rugged as hell and I believe have a weight rating of 125# on the 4x4. If you have a knock off like mine, I wouldnt go past 75 lbs on a small tent up to 4x4. I've found that the plastic ends on the poles are more rugged than the metal poles with the welded corners and ends over time. Being in a cheapy tent myself, I keep my filter and fan in the upright position on the floor in the corner and save the weight limit for hoods etc that cant be placed anywhere else. My buddy recently lost his whole tent due to the top (weight bearing) poles collapsing. His was a knock off as well with the metal corners.

Well crap it is a regular 4x4 gorilla tent. I do not like that much weight up there. I think i would sleep a little better if i put it on the floor. The filter is a new reversible ProFilter 70. The filter it self i am pretty sure weights between 70- 80 lbs. Plus the fan 5-10 lbs. With the additional supports helping distribute the weight it would probably hold but just to risky not to mention getting it up and down for reversing and refilling. I was proud to get that thing up by myself but i think i will wait for help getting it down.LOL

80 lb filter?! You're supposed to use the hydroton in the pots not in the filter Capt ?

She is a heavy one probable closer to 70 lbs. Rated around 800 cfm so if i run my exhaust at full blast( 400 cfm ) it will still be effective at scrubbing the smell. Not exactly sure if there is additional weight from the design ( reversible) or the amount of carbon. Guess i will find out when i go to replace the carbon. I am putting one just like it in the other room from the ceiling but feel much better with that set up than overhead in the tent. That tent looks pretty heavy duty but i think i would have been pushing the weight limit on that overhead set up.
