Where to point fans?

New to the scene, so would like some tips on this as it seems to be conflicting from the people around me.

Is it better to have the fans oscillating directly at the plants or just above the canopy? Trying to prevent mildew.
Also, how would I go about aiming the fan for drying? I was told at the plants so it can get better air circulating through it.

Adequate air movement within your space is the important bit. Below/above the canopy are both fine IME.

When drying you don't want direct airflow hitting your buds. They'll dry out too quickly. A fan running underneath the hanging buds works great. 7-10 days hang dry is pretty standard.

I have a tower fan in the middle that hits every plant in my tents and than I open just the back flap so my intake fans pull air through the back and than the fan blows it around, if my plants get tall I lift the fan up and set it on a bucket so it’s taller but it seams to work good. 8BCCC3DF-C3D4-4FED-AEE8-696A1D164DAE.jpeg
For drying I hang all my plants on a line from the ceiling and than I have a fan on one side that blows towards the ground so it doesn’t blow on the plants at all actually just makes the air move a little

I think it’s important to point out that proper airflow in a “room” is going to be much easier to achieve than in a tent. I think this is going to vary a bit based on dimensions but here’s what I’ve got going on in a 4x8.

6inch AC Infinity intake at one end.
6inch AC infinity At the other end, venting from the top for exhaust.
2x 6” oscillating
1x 8” clip on Secret Jardin
1x 47” Vornado Tower in back corner
1x Tower fan laid down on the floor blowing across my root zone.

I try and avoid pointing any fan directly at the plants. It’s a work in progress but I’m happy with this current se

Some might say that this is overkill, but I can assure you, one bout with bud rot and you will turn into a madman fan collector like me.

Here is my fan philosophy: You can't have too many!
I increase airflow as the plants grow & are able go handle a little more wind stress. If you can replicate nature in your tent you will have sucess. The spots in the world where the best landrace & heirloom strains originate are usually extremely windy (steep, rugged mountainsides in Asia, coastal mountains in the US, Central and South America)
Airflow does many things like increasing bud size/density, making it hard for small bugs/mites to attach to the leaf surface, preventing "hot spots" in your grow area, preventing powder mildew, and allowing you to run your lights much closer to the plants without heat stressing them. Moderation is the key, too much wind on non "wind trained" plants can cause issues.

Young plants/clones: (1) 6" oscillating fan on low blowing across the tops. Just want to them go dance a little jig. Too much wind will remove the moisture from the air they require at this stage. 2x2 tent

Veg: (2) fixed 8" fans. One blowing across the top of the canopy, the other blowing below in the opposite direction below the canopy. Speed is increased as stalks get more strength. Plants are rotated 90°daily. 3x3 & 4x2 tents.

Flower: Same as veg but I put a 20" box fan in front of each tent door when the lights come on. The doors are left open at the bottom corner and the fan blows in from outside the tent. These blow cool air from below and really help the growth of the lowers. The fan speed is increased as the buds grow. By late flower the fans are running on speed 2/3 and it's like a hurricane blowing in there. 3x3 & 4x2 tents

I also have small 4" fans at the top of my tents that come on when the lights turn on to help cool the LED drivers and dissipate that heat & extend their life.

Vent fans are always on to remove stale air from the tents, control odor + heat. Cloudlines with the LED controller are my choice.

As long as u have negative pressure and a fan moving the air u are good to go ?. I have a tower fan in front right of tent (4x4) and that's where the intake is . The big thing for me is my scrubber is in the top rear so any air that comes in that front right intake is passing by the plants. Jmho ?
