I didn’t know but last night when I was out on the water a boat with five people onboard capsized in our area .
So far one is dead , two are missing and two were found up on a reef at 0200am alive .
They were not local and ventured out around our reefs and islands .
This is why local knowledge is pretty important when you’re venturing out into risky areas .
Even then when I fish at night I get a little hyped when underway because there are no guarantees .
I hope they find the two missing but by now I doubt they’ll be alive .

How long does it take to clean that haul? Do you gut and skin them or just fillet?

I tend to dislike cleaning fish more than I like eating them, especially in the winter, or I'd keep more than I do.

As is my way , I got sidetracked a few times and stuffed around so it probably took me longer than it should have . I think it was around an hour an a half to two hours scaling and filleting then boning them but not skinning . The skin is nice texture wise so it’s pleasant to eat .
I don’t mind cleaning fish but it’s definitely not top of my favourite hobbies list .
A good flexible fillet knife is the key to ripping off fillets quickly and leaving mostly frame. I hate wasting meat 👍

I don't mind so much in the summer, but in the winter, by the time I get home the fish are on the verge of frozen. I generally have to stop a time or two during the process to allow the feeling to come back to my fingers. After being bundled up against the cold all day, I just want to get warm.

I thought after your earlier comment it must be a bitch trying to clean fish in those winter temps . The only advantage is you don’t need ice in your esky to keep the fish .
Frozen fingers ……. No thanks
I’m easily the most tolerant to cold weather in our family but you guys are next level cold . In fact your several levels colder .
What’s the most common form of heating in Canada . Might sound like a stupid question 🤔

Around here it's my burning charisma and charm that bring the heat, but for most it's gas furnaces. ;)

Many supplement with wood, but having a wood burning apparatus can drive up your insurance. My neighbor just told me a friend of his was told his insurance would go up over $400/mo if he added a wood-stove. That seems ludicrous, but that's what he said.

$400 bucks !!!!!!
Do you guys burn down houses in your spare time ?
Jeez do statistics justify that kind of a premium just for wood burning apparatus .
Nothing like being denied the option from financial pressure .

I was going to post this in the Canada thread, but thought it was a good reminder for all us anglers (except maybe @Ramjet159 , whose country doesn't have hills, rivers, or ice ;))

Smartassery aside, this story describes some of my biggest fears. A man and woman at a lookout type place over the mostly frozen river. They tumble down into the water. The man is able to get out, but...
“The male witnessed the female falling through the ice and she submerged through the ice and water, and there was no open water down stream,” said EFRS spokesperson

Fucking horrific for everyone involved.
Please be careful out there, my friends.
