Who loves fishing ?

Disappointing, but no surprise. Generally, in my experience, the very top end of any field are breaking the rules. What used to be the words of a heel wrestler to draw boos have become a mantra for success for many unethical people: "if you aren't cheating, you aren't trying."
My response is that if you are cheating, by definition, you can't truly win. Guess that's why in that type of competition, I'll settle for being a loser who loves himself and his life. ;)

I've only fished with one world record holder and found it an unpleasant experience. Imagine that ultra-competitive kid from elementary school, the one that has to be the best at everything, the poor loser with an excuse for every mistake and a cheap shot toward competitors at every opportunity. Yeah, that guy.
Additionally, I've been told that at least one of his world records is a sham as it was taken using illegal bait.
Oh well, no skin off my ass. He still has to look in the mirror and know what he did. ?

I can relate to your view . We had a pretty big king nob fishing guru who did his own TV show and wrote articles and also was in the habit of rubbishing commercial fisherman and our practices to protect his own recreational interests first .
I have no issue with poor commercial practices exposed and made accountable and any fisherman worth his salt is aware sustainability is always the key for all interests but this nob was spreading misinformation and appealing to the weekend clueless water users to gain support . In my mind what I’d call a premium wanker !!!!

Went walking on water today. Let's see you Aussies do that. ;)

Checked the ice on a local lake. Only found about 2-1/2 inches of cloudy ice, so I'll give it a while longer. Getting pretty amped up for the season, luckily the forecast is all good ice-making weather. :carlton:

First time on the ice today. Dodged bambis and bullwinkles on the road getting there and ended up landing three tigers. This one gave an absolutely incredible fight. It got to the point I was just hoping to see it, let alone land it. When it finally hit the ice I was ecstatic.

This one wrapped around the underwater camera cable during another great fight, so I was fortunate to bring it in as well. Not as big as the other, but much prettier.

Still waiting for an @AlienAthena sighting in this thread. Let's hear about these bass you've been slaying. :)

I never get good pics of the few big ones i’ve caught. Caught a 4.7lber a couple weeks ago but the one good pic doesn’t due the size justice lol. I’ve been fishing the same spot where the average size bass i’ve caught for 3 months was around 1lb so a 4lber had me shaking like I spotted big foot. Also had some weird black stuff along bottom jaw that I didn’t really want to touch which is why this is the only non blurry pic I have lmao 9D2CF17F-BA2B-4152-8924-EFC1C84DFD55.jpeg
edit: That’s a W11/M9 size croc right there, nearly 11 inches (yes i have big feet ??)

That's a beauty! Four times the size of the average? Hell yeah, that scenario will get your heart going all right!

Don't feel like this thread is a competition, btw, or anything like that. We all just love fishing and like talking about it.
Fishing is one of those "if I have to explain, you wouldn't understand" past-times, and you clearly are one of us weirdos that doesn't need anything explained. ;)

Also, Crocs? We're just simple folk 'round here, we don't dress up in fancy church shoes just to go fishin'. ;-P

Beautiful markings . Especially that golden orange flank or belly . That mouth is built to hunt ??

I lied. Bought a tiny 3ft rod and some small lures to target crappie and bluegill but caught a little bass instead. As long as it’s above 50 and low wind i’ll probably go out

Went to another new lake today. Got skunked but saw a few and learned a fair bit through observing with the underwater camera. Also talked to a local and got some good information.

This lake had some snow cover, which is way better for traction, but OTOH I couldn't actually see the ice to try to evaluate thickness and quality. Water flow, springs, etc can make for big differences in a very short distance. You can go from a foot of ice to an inch to swimming if you aren't paying attention. These type of situations aren't common, but since it's still early season and it was unfamiliar water, I'm being extra careful.

Waiting for the ice fog to abate a bit before heading to the lake. Going to spend the day on the ice today before shit gets really cold again for a while. I built a cart-thingy to hold/organize my gear on the sled for the pull out and for in the tent once I'm set up, and today is the first test run. I'll be checking its stability and durability and if that is good I'll also be planning further customization.
