I mainly go for Catfish but I also like catching Carp. I'd like to land a Sturgeon at some point, which, I think my extra heavy gear will be capable of doing. I have two Penn Fathom Lever Drag Reels, a 15 and a 25 which, the 25 is on my XH Big Cat Fever Rod. I do like Walleye too, and I catch Sunfish too every now and then. Landed my first Pumpkin Seed on an ice jig with a piece of sour patch kids on the hook.

Nice Pike! I'd like to catch one of those too, and a Musky, but here in Michigan the best bait for those (live Carp) is illegal to use lol. Guess I could use a sucker though. I don't have any pictures on my phone of anything I've caught though. I've handed a 14 or 15 pound Carp, a 13 pound Lake Trout, and like 3 Channel Cats that were over 10 pounds.

Home now, warm and content. :)

Ended up landing a dozen or so pike, most larger than the one in the photo but a few little wee ones too. Also saw some tiny perch and even had a big ol' sucker roll through shortly before I packed up.

Had a yodel dog watch me get my gear out of the car from up the road a little way, and later a pair were out on the ice. They've learned ice fishermen often leave treats in the form of lunch scraps or old bait, so they keep an eye on us.

It was a bit frosty but a very enjoyable time.

All of a sudden I’m like a kid in a cake shop all excited and loaded with adrenaline. That’s what happens when a Great White cruises past coasting between ships . I was late on the shot ( apologies ) but he’s out there somewhere. Waiting ……….. View attachment 95728
And you didn't even catch him? WTF? You should have pulled alongside and bulldogged him. ;)

That would be amazing to see a great white. I've never been around aquatic life big enough to kill me other than at Sea World.

When I was younger and just got out, I used to rodeo a bit...I still team rope (amateur) and do cowboy games...but I gave bareback, saddle bronc, bull dogging, and rodeo clowning a shot without much success...it's best to build those skills from your youth and when you bounce back.(Que in any Dale Brisby video here)!
One day off the coast of NC we were chumming over a rock formation in about 400' of water using electric reels to fish the bottom and trying to get fish that follow up to stay to catch them on the surface and all of a sudden there was a huge 12' 14' Great White Shark just poking it's head out of the water looking at us...we watched him for a while, them motored about 10 nautical miles to set up again...and there it was again...so there were more boats on this spot so we motored slowly past the other boats and shook him off on one of them...?...we get followed by sharks all the time ( wolfpaks) blacktips, bullsharks, dusky, etc...motherfuckersharks...first time ever seeing a Great White 5' away from me...impressive as hell. They do not fear you and they look right at you...they roll their eye out of water and look at you...if I was on a smaller boat...I would have been a bit nervous?.

Cowboys, real cowboys who grew up on a ranch and have been riding and chucking bales since shortly after they learned to walk, are some of the toughest fuckers walking this earth.
I went to school and worked with 'em. These guys would work all week and then go get stomped by bulls and broncs on the weekends at amateur rodeos and show up Monday all beat to shit and go to work again. Every weekend they did this.

Wanna throw down? When your usual opponent weighs over 1000 pounds, you don't fear too many men. Win or lose, you go forward.
Yah, cowboys aren't to be fucked with.

That's wild about the shark following you. On the west coast, the sea lions will follow boats and steal salmon from fishermen, but you don't have to worry about a sea lion chomping your boat in half.

Wife and I go boogie boarding at Carlsbad State beach during summer, even got each other new boards for Christmas

and we're seeing Great White sightings all along the coast the past several months. Saw a video couple days ago with a Great White jumping behind surfers. Shit. Grew up swimming, surfing and boarding in these waters and now not in any hury to get back in.

I used to free dive...and some of the younger guys I fish with still do ...it takes a lot to get me in the water anymore...it's been too close too many times that the odds favor them now and not me...so I generally stay in the boat...yeah no surfing for me...you are just a surface lure/ top water bait for them.
Yeah @Amarok the guys who really rodeo are tough as nails.. I was 31-32 when I got out...I was already busted up from 13 years in the Military...and was trying to keep my head on straight, so guys like that, although fun as hell...I had to find new friends...not that I am not all busted up from eventing and polo etc...it is all dangerous...the fishing...the horse games...etc...moderation is encouraged.

They’re protected knowadays so the Jaw I have mounted on my wall is pretty much a thing of the past .
As for anything horse related , nope and nope ……….
If it doesn’t have a clutch or brakes nope and nope ……..
I admire their power and beauty but that’s it .

The Wife was bored last night midnight so she wanders down to the local docks to throw a line out . My phone rings 10 minutes later . My reel just exploded can you please bring me down another rod/reel . I go down the local wharf and there she is with a nice fat Flathead sitting on the Wharf with both hooks deep down its throat . Anyway after a few minutes I work the hooks free and change rigs onto the new rod . “ anything else dear while I’m here? “ nope so I’m free to go . I get home and a minute later my phone rings again ……. I caught an Octopus ? but I can’t get it off the hook and it’s kind of pissed off ?.
She finally gets home at 0400 am with reward for effort ??.
It’s fish for Dinner and decent quality as well .
That’s my girl . House wife and Hunter gatherer 8F919B7E-1C05-45DB-876B-482B618693F6.jpeg

If you have Flathead Catfish you totally have a fish capable of killing. Not exactly like the Catfish in the Amazon or Wels from Europe or the Goonch, or the Wallagonia in Southeast Asia but they are pretty brutal.

It's one reason you can generally ignore the "diver" stories every place seems to have (where divers are in the water doing repairs on a dam, and they see a Catfish the size of a car) lol, you can tell they're full of it because they make it back alive; I've got multiple species of Catfish and once they get bigger they don't really fear us, and some outright will take a crack at humans.

Sturgeon can kill a human and have in Florida when they jump out of the water and land on a boat.

For me though it's Catfish; Skarks kill people of course but if you flip him upside down they go to sleep with Tonic Immobility; Catfish will grab you upside down without a problem and they can swim backwards too.

As much as I would LOVE to go to the Amazon, Africa, and southeast Asia to fish some true Monsters, the idea of trekking through the Jungle doesn't work, I'd end up dying trying to pet something I shouldn't lol.

It's one of the many reasons I'm not gonna try crack; you guys would see a headline in the news showing me running like hell from a Zoo with a baby Leopard or a Jaguar cuddling it hahahaha.

Speaking of things I'd love to pet......
