Half the things I want as a pet are dangerous to people. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Not sure I'll be able to find a psychiatrist to get my "Emotional Support Jaguar" but the thought HAS crossed my mind a few times. Shit I can cry... Why can't I have a big kitten....

I have no issue with snakes, or spiders really, as long as we leave each other alone it's all good. But at the same time if it harmed someone I care about, well then it's cheaper to feed my Catfish that day. They don't care if it's venomous or not. LOL there's a guy that lives in the South and made a video of him cleaning a baby 6 or 7 pound Blue Catfish (Yes that's a baby size) and when he opened up the stomach, a 4 or 5 foot copper head or cotton mouth fell out of the stomach and onto his cleaning station table, and he FREAKED out and ran. It was dead though of course; after a bit whatever they swallow is done for. Pretty funny though because in my mind thinking like a Catfish "Mmmmm Murder Spaghetti noodle! Nom Nom Nom!* and no more venomous snake on the water LOL.

As for Spiders I generally catch them and toss them outside if I can. If they were huge like in the Kangaroo land though I could always eat it. Basically a land lobster.

Yeah no I would LOVE to catch a Tarpon, a Bull Shark, and a Gator, but uh, that heat and weather.... Nah LOL.

Hey! Watch your mouth! Some of us like Irish Corn Pops. LOL. Besides, here in the Mitten it's legal; You can buy Jars of Moonshine at almost any liquor store.

LOL one day a guy from California was in the Liquor store standing next to me while I was waiting in line, and he saw all the Moonshine jars, and he said "Man it's so crazy that it's like legal here! I'm from California, and you can't sell this stuff there" and I'm laughing like "We got legal weed too and no Earthquakes" LoL.
I’d love to have a collection of our venomous snakes . Taipans , Browns , Tigers , Death adders but the wife is simply not comfortable with it and I understand that of course . She freaked a little when I wanted a Tarantula so snakes were never going to get over the line , particularly venomous top of the list snakes .

I don't get outta controll. I'm a pro with tequila...at least now I am.

Jagermeister on the other hand, look out. That sheet fks me up!
Jäegermeister yep I have stories . I guess we all do .
It’s the only drink in 40 years of life with my late father that I saw mess him up once . I never ever thought I’d see the day and then Mr Jaeger dropped by

Christ On a Cracker - Ol' Hughie's out fishing, and you gals are in here swapping recipes and knocking back a few pink ladies!
Well, I wish I'd been here telling lies right with you, coz I caughts no fishes. Rolled a donut. The river running as deep as I've ever fished it - High and dirty as @Psychobilly after a 3 day outdoor cheese festival in August. No shoals were even visible, between the added depth and the yoohoo-like water. And because the shoals were underwater, the current was ripping. Had one solid offering at a topwater - but no joy, he missed. Had 2 bites on a senko, couldn't get a hookset in the current. And that was 5 hours' worth of fishing. I walked twice as far as usual.

But, fuck it, it was great to get out and it's gonna rain tomorrow, anyways.
Here, for your edification, are 2 pictures of a tree and 1 picture of 2 dogs.
Since, you know, I have no fish to show for my efforts...

I got SO F'd up I fell off the bed when it was play time with my lady friend. My buddy puked all over my couch, blanket, and pillow. We 3 split a fifth of Jager. I have a 1/2 fifth still in the freezer. BUT I hate licorice with a passion.

Bro I drank a fifth of bourbon and some beer back like right before college and the next day, I hated taco bell commercials.... "The all new beefy crunchy*HURLLLLLLLLL* with *RALLLLLLLPPPPHHH man* fucking taco bell * available now!" .... I felt like dried white powdery dog shit stuck to a hippies foot.... lol I put a draw string trash bag on my ears so I could puke and play Unreal Tournament with my buddy at the same time.

Fuck that was an interesting morning at work . Pilot bringing a ship in to the harbour fucked up and nearly mowed down a couple Port navigation beacons with us along for the ride . I could here his voice instructing us over the radio going from calm to “ Tugs I need full power now “ which means we are using everything we have ( approx 5000 HP ) to push the ship back out of harms way . I said to my crew hang onto your boots because things are about to get messy .
Luckily we just missed the beacons and then had to do more or less a big hand brakey manoeuvre to them pull the ship up in the harbour .
Someone when I was training told me once , Driving tugs is 90% chill mode chugging around with the occasional 10% shit yourself hang on for the ride occurrence . That one was in the 10 % category . I did manage to snap a pic looking at the aft tug before things went south quickly . A992692F-6AE6-4131-BE2A-4D763E4F58D2.jpeg

That had to be tense.
Any sentence that ends with 'or I'm in trouble' usually makes for a spook. You can't be give'n The Fates an ultimatum like that.
Glad all is well.

I gotta ask.
Diesel powered ?
I am mostly wondering what that sounds like.
-
"How much horsepower does a diesel locomotive have?

Most yard-switching and short-haul locomotives are equipped with diesel engines ranging from 600 to 1,800 horsepower; road units commonly have engines ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 horsepower.
Encyclopedia Britannica › Diesel..."

They light up those trains , and I can feel it in my bones. I love the deep thrum and also the pitch of turbo.

Jealous, I am.
I would like to feel that.

Yep Diesel powered Nagata Japanese made Straight 8 Turbo charged donks .
They max RPM to approx 750 but we try to be conservative and extend Engine life so only push those revs when we have no choice ( emergencies etc )
I know when a Pilot asks for full power in a position we aren’t normally in he’s in a bit of strife .
I don’t mind the medium revving Nagata engines but my favourite Tug I’ve ever driven had twin V16 Caterpillars that ran up to 1700 RPM . The power delivery was so much quicker and if you loved that Turbo whistling away these babies sent out a nice howl . Music to my ears . Man I miss that Tug . She was like a Formula 1 of the waterways . Couple pics below of her . I have driven Diesel / Electric tugs as well . A hybrid vessel that was designed as a more eco friendly vessel to operate inside a nature reserve gas extraction terminal . Hated the joint . White Hats as @Amarok calls them all over the place . Even the big money wasn’t worth the bullshit and I got out . Now I’m much closer to home and enjoy my job . A34AA4E7-C3D1-4F28-93BC-119F06925AA4.jpeg 805110A9-A676-4915-9169-7FDAF952C196.jpeg

I know a lot of people have probably seen this footage, but it's still impressive to see a Freshwater Catfish pulling on a setup where the Reel (Looks like a Shimano Tiagra 130) is used for Bluefin Tuna and Grouper.... LOL

No, this one I would NOT swim with. Notice the fish is landed and yet fully able to "wiggle" his way back to escape anyway, LOL. Piraiba would be one hard fish to land. The world record for "tackle" is huge, and one of the crew helping land it had their shoulder partially dislocated from a head thrash the fish did.

Catfishing! If you can lift it yourself, it's not that big LOL

Awwwwwww!

OK so these guys are fishing the Amazon, and after they catch a Peacock Bass for bait, the first thing they land is a baby Red Tail!!!!

:)

From the size of the Red Tail, I'd estimate that it's just under a year old :) They grow an average of 2 feet from birth to their first Birthday.

I was actually curious about that. The technology is curving that way.

I spent 10 years or so living across the street from a train yard. The frequencies were delightful.

I would hear the diesels wind up and then anticipate electric kicking in.
Hard to describe with onomatopoeia.
Whooooop !

Since I am in a ask-hole mood, I got one more for you.
I once heard that a prop blade must travel through water like a screw would drive into wood.

What I am wondering is, how does a tugboat push against something that is not moving?
Are they ( water) jet drive ?

That’s a great question and in theory makes sense . You’ll never get perfect synergy with rotation of blades matching water flow . You’ll always get a degree of what we call slippage or loss of thrust with prop driven craft , especially displacement hulls . A displacement hull is for example a ship or Shrimp Trawler that displaces a large volume of water with its hull laying deep in the water like if you push a 5 gallon bucket into the water without water flowing over the lip it’s displacing 5 gallons of water in that space . Then you have planing hulls like your speed boats etc that sit almost on top of the water at speed displacing very little volume in that space .
If the props get too much slippage you’ll then get the blades drawing oxygen from the water creating air bubbles around the blades and inefficiency creating violent shaking of the vessel ( cavitation ) where you think the boat is about to shake apart lol .
It’s a nasty kind of feeling but sometimes it’s unavoidable . You’ll see acceptable levels of cavitation when you look at the wash coming out the back of a boat and it’s a milky foamy colour . That’s the air being drawn from the water around the prop blades and spat out the stern with the thrust .
I hope that kind of makes sense . It’s sometimes all jumbledeboo to most if your not living it daily .
Also our Props spin on like a worm drive meaning they rotate 360 degrees directing thrust in any direction so we don’t have rudders . DD4DEFB0-77D2-4502-B415-5C715B54E0F4.jpeg So each of those props with nozzle surrounding rotate 360 degrees .
You can form angle combinations to create complex water flows that’ll make the tug go sideways in the water . They’re an absolute gem to drive .
Not sure if anyone has seen the Moran company tugs in the states zipping around but they’re the same . 3EFE1368-4C49-471B-BF2B-6675259988A6.jpeg So in each hand is a corresponding control lever that both rotates the props you see and a throttle to vary power delivery . No big steering wheel lol
