Willie's Supercalifragilistic Gummy Recipe

4.5 oz Jello
1/2 oz gelatin or (two packets)
1/2 teaspoon Guar Gum
1/2 teaspoon Citric Acid
1 teaspoon sunflower lecithin powder

1/2 cup of water
1/3 cup of light corn syrup

1/2 cup oil

tools needed are a double boiler, spoon, turkey baster and molds.

Put everything except the oil into the pot, Mix it all. Let it sit
for 10 minutes Meanwhile the botton half of the double boiler is warming
up.

After 10 minutes, put the top pot into the bottom one. Keep the heat
so the water is not bubbling over. Pour in the oil and stir, stir, stir.
It will eventually blend in. keep stirring, as you stir you will notice bubbles
forming along the sides of the pot. Those are gelatin bubbles popping.
Initially, they will stir away. When you reach the point that stirring is
overwhelmed by the bubbles, (you can't stir them away) the jello mix is ready
..turn the heat down a little. Then suck up the goo with the baster and place
in your molds..work quick as you can. I put all my molds on large plastic
cutting boards, for rigidity. I let the gummies sit in the molds overnght, then pop them
out to let dry. Drying on parchment or wax paper, flipping them every so often, until they
are candy like consistency and can be bagged without sticking together. I never refrigerate
them, it ruins the clarity and the texture.

A couple of notes......I weigh the Jello. I have found that the boxes are not really
all that accurate for weight. There is no 4.5 oz box, so you'll need one 6 oz box or two 3 oz
boxes of Jello. That became important as I want to do a run where I know exactly what I am going to
get. 4 short this round, 6 extra next round,..etc Weighing it works perfect!

This recipe will make 44 of the standard 7ml marijuana leaves.

DO NOT BOIL THE JELLO! It kills the strength of the jello and your gummies will suffer.

Corn Syrup....I will use either light or dark but my preference is for the light. I like Karo
brand. It is better for clarity and color and it adds a vanilla taste that is dynamite. It's
main contribution is moldability, you get great looking detailed pieces with no soft sides.

Double boiler.mine is a half gallon cheapo from the thrift store...there are many out there.

Clean up....you have 1 gooey pot, 1 gooey baster, and one pot with very hot water. Suck up that hot water with the baster and start on the top pot and the baster itself. Clean in a few minutes :)

Thanks to @stanknugzz77 and @OldG for their contributions helping me to arrive at this recipe.

Perfect candy is highly probable!

Long day in the Gummy Factory :)...... did something new today.....black licorice gummies! Cherry, Strawberry and Mango too. Root Beer gummies on deck....like to have some barrel molds for the root beer ones :)

I did all these with a hotter than usual oil mix.........leaves are closer to 75 mg than 50 mg. Also with the different molds there are some bigger sizes, a couple of crowns that are slightly larger and then there are some aliens that are smaller............the lighting bolt is the smallest @ 25 mg or so...............but go ahead and eat the spaceship.........those mango spaceships could be close to 150's :) hahahaha ???

I read, and read a bunch or recipes for Black Licorice and I did not want any milk , creme or molasses in them. So I modified my Gummy recipe listed above by taking the jello and the plain gelatin out of that recipe and substituting 5 oz of plain Gelatin and 1/2 cup sugar. I actually used Xylitol to make these diabetic friendly. Then for the licorice flavor I used a 1 oz bottle of Anise Extract by McCormack. And for color I had a little tube of Coal Black food coloring and I squeezed in about as much as you would load a toothbrush with. I also used dark corn syrup instead of light. Then pretty much proceeded as the recipe dictates.
One thing to keep in mind, the basic gelatin is much stronger than boxed jello..and I used more heat and for longer to get it to liquefy. Also, it's a little thicker. These mold very well and they also dry very fast.......more so than Jello. The "licorice" quality is very good and they come out of the mold with that new licorice shine in appearance.

I may reduce the Plain Gelatin to 4.5 oz the next batch............or not. We'll see how these go. These dry much, much, faster than when using Jell-o. And that's a big plus for using plain gelatin, drying gummies is an ass pain............but I want them dry enough they can go in a bag without bonding to each other.

This recipe will be a starting point for me to get into some cool flavors going forward :)

Awesomesauce mang, thanks for that feedback. All the licorice recipes I'd found call for molasses, good to hear your input on that part. I'll be following along in your further gummy adventures. ???

a couple of things while I think of it,
I also added a 1/2 cup of additional water to get the viscosity to a point the turkey baster could pick it up. Gelatin is stronger and thicker than jello.....With jello gummies, when I start pouring I turn the heat off and with these gelatin gummies, the heat stayed on. I even re-supplied water to my double boiler. It's a little different yet very similar...........but the heat stays on, lol
Backing off that half oz of gelatin may help.
I really liked the strength aspect of the plain gelatin..............strenth, moldability, and drying time were all top marks.

OK...new oil is here... and we are going to use the Ardent to infuse 1.5 cups of oil with 2 zips of bud. That's a 25% bump. Sky Warden from outdoor last season is the bud. This should move my standard recipe from 50 mg per leaf to 80 mg per leaf. It also means I can get about 35-40 mg into a single Black Forest size gummy bear with this mix ☠️

I appreciate you, but I owe @OldG and @Dino Party for most of my knowledge pertaining to making gummies and maybe just trial and error with my lady. So shout out to those two and especially my lady for putting up with/assisting in turning our kitchen into a sticky mess and also testing all of the batches with me. Oh so many nights of us being perma baked into the couch to the point of being brain dead. Fun times. Positive vibes...

Black Licorice Gummies Recipe (revised)

1/2 cup sugar or sugar substitute
3 oz Plain gelatin
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup of dark corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon Guar Gum
1/2 teaspoon Citric Acid
1 oz anise extract
1 teaspoon sunflower lecithin powder
1/2 cup canna oil
Black food coloring

I put the first 6 ingredients in the pot, mix and let set for 10 minutes...then add the rest and put it on the heat. Basically then it's he same procedure listed above...don't boil......the plain gelatin sets nicely......better than boxed jello...every one mold perfectly. I will assume that this formula will work for other custom flavors as well by changing out the color and extract........I have lemon, root beer, strawberry and anise extracts on hand.......possibilities :)

These came out perfect with one exception.....I made my own anise extract based on a web formula..but it was not licorice enough.....my shit was weak......I used anise seed and everclear......have since added the balance of my anise seed to that extract. Going forward I will be using Star Anise for the extract. Plain gelatin dries alot faster too!

I was gonna use the root beer extract for some hard candies....however the implementation has been somewhat lethargic to date :) I will probably make some root beer gummies first.

Chefmaster Coal Black was the food coloring I used. Highly recommended! A little dab will blacken a 1/2 cup oil recipe nicely.

I've yet to make gummies but bought all the stuff I need and just have to get a batch of oil made to medicate them. I bought a couple large gummie molds from a place called PJ Bold down in the states. One is just plain CBD and the other is the Canadian THC emblem they put on all the legal pot here. They each do 192 - 4ml squares so need 768ml to fill one all up. Only $40US but with exchange, shipping and duty cost me $150Can.

Got 2kg each of 3 flavours of real Jell-O off Amazon . ca for $16 each so a lot cheaper than cleaning the local grocer out of those small packs.

If I run your recipe @Willie at 2.5 that should be just about right for a full batch according to my calcs so I think I'll go with yours. I'll be making concentrates to mix in. I'll dissolve it first in the oil then add to the gummie mix. I made a batch of CBD ones with Belgian chocolate and almost out of those now. I kinda like the chocolate ones but others are hot for gummies so it's gummies I will do.

One thing I've noticed in a lot of the posts about gummies is peeps having problems with it cooling too fast and 'gummying' up the works. With these larger molds I couldn't see filling them one at a time with a syringe or anything tho I did buy a silicon unit just for that purpose. Trying to keep it all hot seemed like a real PITA so I came up with a solution and it worked great with the chocolate.

I got the wife a cookie sheet, rack and silicon sheet a few years ago because I wanted the silicon sheet but it turns out my molds fit perfectly on the rack so I put the cookie sheet on top of a 2 element hotplate with some water in it with the rack and mold over that so I can keep the mold hot as long as I need to fill the holes up. Kept it at 150F and checked with an IR thermometer.

CBDchocoA.JPG

Also got an icing smoother to spread the chocolate around and in theory it should work the same with gummie mix. Scrapes it nice and level and cleans off the space between the holes so the candies don't stick together and all had clean edges.

I tried PAM on the first 3 rows to see how that worked as I had read about it in a few places. Nope.

CBDchocoD.JPG

I made the mistake of putting the sheet in the freezer to cool it faster then went for a toke. They got colder than I planned and that caused them to get a white frost on them but they taste fine and do the job. I didn't learn about that until later.

CBDchocoFirstBatch200622A.JPG

When I first got the sheets I though there was a screwup with the CBD one as I figured the letters should be backwards like the THC one and now my candies would come out reversed. I sent an email to the company to rage about this monumental cock-up to find out those letters work both ways. DOH!

They also have emblems for various states and all sorts of other cannabis themed molds and cookie presses etc.

Happy medicating!

be careful with the concentates, I find that the everclear taste can come thru the candy. Not the end of the world but some peeps don't like that taste.

I leave my gummie mix in the double boiler at a reduced setting. Then I suck it up with a vinyl turkey baster and put in the molds. It stays nice and warm and liquid. Then, let them sit....the refrigerator/freezer should be avoided with gummies and chocolates as many moisture or condensation will make that white that you saw on your choc's. I loved making the chocolates but they have to be kept cold so they don't melt, whereas the gummies are good for travel.

most of my molds come from here if anyone is looking
