Is tartar kush just like pine tar kush ?
Tartar Kush is a poly hybrid that was gifted to me by a grower from Scandinavia who went by the name seedling. It's lineage is AWTRA from Vipers Venom Seed Co x Paulo's Slippers Kush from Bald Monkey Seeds.
AWTRA = Katsu Bubba Kush x DNA Kushberry (Christopher Wallace OG cut x Blueberry)
Paulo's Slippers Kush = (Larry OG x Bubblegum) x Woodhorse Herijuana
There is a bit of murkiness about the lineage on both sides though. The Katsu cut of Bubba used in AWTRA was labeled Las Vegas PK. It was the breeders opinion (based on how it grew and smelled) that someone at the nursery had mislabeled it. So, perhaps there is no Bubba in it.
As for Paulo's Slippers, the lineage of the female used was supposedly Larry OG x Indiana Bubblegum. Lala (the breeder) received the cut from California, and he was told that was the lineage, and that the cut was not from fem seeds. So my assumption is that if that's true, then the male was probably from Serious Seeds Bubblegum stock. But that's an assumption on my part.
I started with only a few original F1 seeds. I found a really nice purple kush looking phenotype that had a sort of musky grape smell. When I'd smoke it, I would sometimes fall asleep. Not every time, but often. Like narcolepsy fall asleep. Waking up with drool coming out my mouth.
I crossed that plant with two of her siblings. I wasn't sure which male to use, so I used both. I then popped a couple of F2 initially, and from that initial grow came my Tartar Kush F2 keeper cut. The Dark Mother, as I called her. I ended up growing out about another 15-20 F2 females looking for something better, but she was the best. So I kept her for between a year and a half to two years. Crossing her to everything that I was working with at the time..
I made 3 versions of Tartar Kush F3. Males weren't very numerous in the F2 for some reason. V1 was a floppy OG looking, slick berry stem rub male, V2 was a kind of a leafy looking male (unfortunately I didn't get many seeds), and V3 was a resinous male that started really slowly, but ended up having a great structure, and dropped a copious amount of pollen. He had this leaf trait (which is common in Tartar Kush) where the leaves will do this claw thing. I used to think it was from too much N, but then I saw another grower's Herijuana crosses doing it. So that leads me to believe that he was favoring the Herijuana side of the lineage.
The F3 female used to make Tartar Berries was an 11 finger leaved monster. I grew her for the seed run in a 3 gallon pot, but she had giant fan leaves. She was incredibly vigorous, and she yielded very well. The potency was also very good. A strong head and body high. One that makes your ears ring. As
@Rozgreenburn mentioned, she had a plum flower, permanent marker, and opium smell. All of those smells are pretty common in everything with the Dark Mother F2 in the lineage. There's also this gross sewage smell that I hate in some (mainly V1) that I am trying to breed away from.
Being that the Blueberry side is so inbred, you'd think that it would totally dominate in the cross. But thus far, that's not what I've seen. I plan to eventually take Tartar Kush to F4 (both v1 and V3), and then cross them both together around F5, and start the process over again. Eventually, I need to come up with a new name for it, as it does not really resemble the original F1 anymore.
