Bump.

The Descent.

If you haven’t seen it, don’t even read about it trust me. I went in blind many years ago and holy crap what a surprise I got! Probably seen it 5 times since and priming up to watch it again tonight with my cousin.

I’ll tell you everything you need to know right here: It’s a horror movie and it got a 7.2 on imdb. Scary movies just don’t get a rating like that.

Must watch!

This is a cool thread here. I'm a huge cinephile myself, and have a decent blu-ray collection. I used to buy a new movie every week for a couple of years.

I love a lot of films for different reasons, but one that I absolutely adore is Bob Clark's 1974 horror classic, Black Christmas. Yes, that Bob Clark, who directed classics like Porky's, and A Christmas Story.

It's well directed, well written, funny, genuinely creepy, and has a great cast. Rumor has it that Elvis Presley loved this movie. If so, he had great taste in horror.

Imo, this is the best slasher film ever made, though it's more of a proto slasher. It invented several of the tropes that we see in modern horror movies (first person POV from killer's perspective, etc..), and it definitely influenced Halloween (1978), as well as countless others.

I prefer it over Halloween actually. I like the fact that you genuinely care for each of the victims in the movie, and that they aren't just fodder for the kill count. I also like that this movie is genuinely funny. The best horror juxtaposes humor with sheer terror and suspense. The contrast makes the horror more horrible, and the humor more funny.

I try to only watch it once a year (around Christmas), as to not get burned out on it. But as the years go by, I love it more and more.
