Ok fellow hunter's, we all know how much dispensaries cost and how overpriced "everything" is in the canna world.

So,,, are ya doing decent on your return on your homegrown endeavor per your investment of equipment and the all mighty electric bill?

At the present moment i have 2,724 watts of lights burning. Have14 cu ft of soil with root in. And every other bell and whistle imagined. Oh and nutes, fans, amendments filters, barrels, etc, etc.
My electric runs around $200.00 a month for the whole property.
We haven't ran out of medicine in 20 years and could easily survive 3 more years if we stopped growing today.

Honestly I'm of the mind that at this point all the bud is free! Been paying the electric gods for so long it's just another bill
consider about using sun panels but cost was way to high - must be nice to have that much in "storage"

Ya, and that was the plug too, lol, I'm in Cali if that says anything... Everything here is overpriced. And again, it's been a while since I've been on the market for buds, and really only share what I grow, so I haven't paid much attention to what's going for what really lately. But I have heard from others that they're getting low balled like a mf and stuffs hard to move.

100 a zip for primo buds would be a steal!
figure at least $18.00 a gram as a startimg point , now medical cannabis is more expensive - better have at least $100.00 to get in the door Has anyone tried the cannabis drinks now they sound like something to drink instead of smoking fo all that have lung issues - ca anyonr recommend a good cannabis drink (pop) thwey even have cannabis beer now !!!!!!!!!!!! go figure

I run 2500 watts, a dehuey and an RO machine. TOTAL input cost for a month is 225.00. My script with the CHEAPEST gov weed would be more than twice that and there would be no hash or rosin....just shitty dried out weed !

Nutes...no idea. I bought so much a couple of years ago i am going to cruise through this year with no nutes purchased.

Seeds..I have...but i did spend a lot the first couple of years.

Now that things are stable though...1 to 2 pounds every month for 225.00. And even better...i can grow 14 week sativas...or whatever i want. Try everything.

It is a great hobby. I am up at 2 am every day with my guts and...the bloom room evacs doob smoke too. Might as well garden.

Lets not count the cost of rapid rooters though...or rockwool. Every planter needs filling (i reuse soil so the costs is very low).

In Michigan, grams range from $12-18/gram at the dispos. That’s expensive….now add the state sales tax at 6%……but wait, there’s more!……an excise tax of 9%!! That $18 nug just became a 20.79 nug. We usually only stop at them to grab edibles for the girlfriend. She doesn’t smoke and hasn’t figured out how to make her own yet without fucking it up! Lol.

As far as the drinks, I have tried a few here in Michigan and a few in Colorado and all I can say is, I wasn’t impressed. There may be some good ones out there, but all I have had not so good flavors and some are over carbonated so you feel bloated. I have a high tolerance, so as far a medicating with it, it didn’t help me at all. Everyone is different though, so by all means, give one or two a try, they may work better for you than me!

I make a coffee syrup with my popcorn buds. Glycerin, fresh buds and an insta pot or double boiler. Boom, tasty coffee with a kick! Whatever I don't consume, my worms will!
The best part of being a 'head', is all the cool stuff we figure out. And that is just a bonus! I would never try most of my hacks if I was buying herb.

I run about 1800w of leds in my 11x11, plus a 70 pint dehuey,15000btu ac works out to about 100 a month during flower, ill small veg in my 4x8 then large veg and flower in the remaining 7x11 I never even worry about yields really and I'm still way into the green, I do consume a lot and actually don't have my card but my wife does so she technically supplies us both ?? ill burn about an 1/8th a day of flower and about a half a gram of rosin or shatter, plus the wifey sticking to mostly rosin we would be in for a lot more than we pay in electricity, its all in the quality of the product for me if we blazed dispo flower and rosin we would be going through 2x as much, the quality just isn't there every time the wife brings something home I'm pretty much disgusted with what they're calling top shelf products around here, my rookie ass popcorn flower presses look better than their best stuff ifs just crazy, and like a few others have said the late am hours of zen chilling with my gals listening to some EO show or rasta Jeff or dude grows show to me is priceless, unwinding, consuming some good meds and working with the ladies is just something truly special, but back on track I'd say my return on investment came soon as I realized where I stood vs the commercial market lol

Imho the investment has been paid off a long time ago, thats even including seed purchases, and all the equipment thats not even being used. lol. All told I'd say I'm running about 1800 watts in lights, prob another 400 watts in other fans, pumps etc. With the solar on the roof though my electric is about 50-100 every month in the winter, and 100 to 175 in the summer depending on how hot it gets up too. The AC just sucks it down. lol.
Far as other supplies, soil, nutrients, and other random shit adds maybe $300 over the course of a yr.

Here in CO if I was getting my stuff from the dispo I'd be spending $3-400 a month for the discount herb ounces. If I was going with top shelf from them it'd be more in the $800 a month range. Thats not even including the edibles and hash I make. If that were added in I'd be in the 2k+ range easily every month to keep up with what I go through.

I'd say that with all things considered, and evened out over a yr its around $1800 all told. So about $150 a month at the most. Money well spent imho.

My pal works at a dispensers. Decent ounce pouches for $64.

Had to pause, and do some math.
My municipal service, not including property taxes was $880 this month. Water , sewer, electric, gas, garbage, ,,all told.
My grow was 250 of it.
Figure bout six bucks a day for power. Thing is, I can grow a years worth of cannabis in 2 cycles - 150 days.
I paid for the insulation, and the space heater was store bought; everything else for my garden was free and repurposed. Tables, beds, soil, everything.
I need to find an inexpensive 0-P-K supplement, and I am searching for a way to avoid purchasing that !
I tap every resource I can find , in order to aim for a zero budget.
Puts me less than 3 bucks a day ongoing, for all the weed I can handle.
Still, I am only saving %66. Ounce a week at 64 bux is just over three grand in a year

@Jewels it really shows where the Canadian market is.

65 dollar OZS... That is what we paid for columbian gold in high school but these are 20 to 24% high producers usually (sour kush, jean guy etc).

Hydro stores are closing en masse because the black market has massive supply and were holding to see if the 600 dollar pound was going to improve. Commercial growers would buy 10 to 20 Ushio HPS bulbs at a time...their nutes in the big 10 gallon bottles etc. Home growers get a 20 year light...go through far less nutes so their is no market.

600 to 800 for a pound of weed.

Its a buyers market that is for sure....AND a lot of home growers who have brutal luck the first round or 2 say screw this and buy legal weed for 60 to 100 an oz and its not the terrible garbage it was.

2 years ago a pound was 2k.

In previous years I always found work at local shops in my area. Paying cost or sometimes 10% over cost for nutes, supplies and hard equipment really helped offset the normal expenses of gardening but the real pay off was the relationships... ? I know that's a cliché ass line and I say it with some sarcasm but in many ways it's true.

One hand washes the other in this business and hookin' up the heads that drove a U-haul two hours to deal with you and the fringe benefits start becoming apparent. Keep in mind this was pre med, pre recreation days where penalties for getting busted were steep. You sell a player $16k of equipment an hour past close in a private setting under the cover of darkness and that's when the legit cuts start showing up. Ah the good ole days. I'm reminiscing.

Not anymore. I'm just a regular stiff these days growing from seed. Keeping it cheap is the name of the game. No more overly expensive, overly complicated regimens. It's Jacks 321 with a half dozen key amendments. Electricity expenses might as well be as certain as death and taxes. Always lookin' for that veteran discount!

My entire deal is efficiency these days. With the right strains and done correctly I can run a single 600w garden and have smoke to spare for the entire year. So far that's not happening...lol.

Even without a bumper crop I'm always in the black.. Dispensary prices are terrible. I love growing but I grow lazier and cheaper with age and it hurts whenever I have to pay retail for stuff I used to buy at cost or even get free, like ph pens and other stuff. Plus like others have said, I love knowing what's in it and that it was grown with care.

Nah, you're not alone by any means.. Hell, the price has nearly doubled in the last 5 or 6 years because its catching on. Before it was Jacks it was called Peters and it was even cheaper... So cheap people passed it up because for a long time, companies like Advanced had everyone fooled you had to drop a grand on gallons to grow good herbs.

While not as cheap as it used to be it's still about as cheap as you're gonna find. Used on a feed-feed-flush schedule at 80% and incorporating compost/castings/guano/microbe teas and it'll run with any boutique line out there. Good stuff and hard to beat but shush!!! Don't tell anybody, they'll raise the price!
