How do you know she is the one?

Been growing indoors for 8 years. Probably got around 20 indoor grows under my belt. I have grown strains from Probably 50 different vendors on both sides of the pond.

I have had maybe 3-5 strains in my memory that stand out for different reasons. Some for the huge yields and others for the quality. Of those I wish I had kept 4 strains to breed with.
1. Greenpoint California Cannon
Was an awesome, awesome kush.
2. Briscos Orgi
Was such a beautiful plant that had amazing purple hues and ample frost.
3. Oni seeds Tropicana cookies
Had 10/10 bag appeal.
4. Cannaventure lvtk
Nice kush with stupid high yields.

The other 50+ strains were not worth keeping. They were not bad (some were) they just weren't the ones.

As my passion grows and evolves I want to find a standout female (I try to take clones of all my plants now.) Just is case she is the 1. When I find her I'm going to try and find a nice male from og kush bx5 to breed my queen with. I like a good kush.
So my question to all. How do you know when you've found her and how Rare is it to find the 1. So I guess from my own experience 10% of all my females had potential to be the 1. Please share and good vibes. Peace!!

My 2 cents for finding the "one" is as follows... ALWAYS take clones!!! Stick to breeders who consistently bring the 🔥. Try not to get caught up in the hype of new untried strains and do a honest phenotype hunt with enough seeds of the strain to see what the phenotypic variation is. Too often people only grow a couple of seeds of a strain and don't allow themselves to find the best phenotype within the strain.

The perfect one doesn't exist. If you found her, there'd be no need to breed her. It would just water down what you saw as perfect. Further, whatever you considered perfect today, will change over time. Tastes can change, situations can change (forced to downsize your grow and suddenly, leggy OGs are a liability). If you're looking for breeding moms with intent, you'll know the priority traits to select for and whatever is deficient can be shored up with the male you pair her with. When was the last time you read/heard someone say "Welp, I'm never buying seeds or cuts again, I found the one and only plant I will ever want."?

It doesn't have to be some very painstaking choice, you've pretty much got a feel for it. It either clicks for you or it doesn't. Then you can look more closely to analyze why you made that conclusion and have explicit trait breakdown for what made her so special. You have the experience, feel, and taste for what checks the boxes.

I love skunk, but I don't want to exclusively smoke skunk. Sometimes, I want a hashy afghani or pure mindfire haze. I'd suggest a POV shift to what makes great keeperS (emphasis on the plural) instead of how to find THE ONE.

Always good to see you posting, @Schwaggy P !

Reminds me of a terrible joke.
I think I've told it before.
But I've only got so many, so I got to recycle

Two bulls, sitting on top of a hill. One is a yearling, the other a seasoned professional.
Young bull is stamping around, excited, impatient.
"I am going to run down there, and breed one of those cows "

Old bull pans the scene, and replies:
I am going to WALK down there ,
and inseminate them ALL.

Well if there’s truly “one”, it’ll be fate. Happened to me long ago joining GreenPassion, a long lost medical marijuana forum that TGA and Subcool used to test seed back in the day.

Through some seedy shit I met up with a kool Kat somehow, also from my region that held the original Jacks Cleaner P1 alongside most of Ae77s stock out of Florida. This wasn’t the Batgirl Sub faked, or was fooled to believe was his Jacks Cleaner P1, but instead the original cut nobody wanted to return to him.
Fate had it be that I was the last to hold her and grow her last seed. This is where I found the one for me no diff then my crazy ass wife haha.

I named the first test round of seed JIB and that’s where the one came to be, fell in love first sight and after smoking her I never liked her sisters as much. She became my favorite of them all and fit me like a glove as it was my jib in slang. There’s no questioning if she was the “one” 15 years later to this day.

I fucked up and lost her years later, but luckily had some odd conjoined seeds from what was coined rodelization. I found the closest out of 8 sprouts and the best male while moving forward. I worked these and outcrossed to make Gibberish and that’s the one now.

Like Shaggy stated, there’s a lot of variables at play. I too can’t smoke just her due to her mind blowing trip side, so I smoke and love Hindu Kush and a few other things I’ve got and made. Guess I’m just a weed whore even though there’s the “one” yet in my life I always rely on and favor most!

When you're as picky------or, "have a discerning palate" as I have 😏😉 lol. ... There really isn't "The One" because my tastes change often, and it's the variety that really sparks my interest.

Case in point; Peanut Butter Breath. Easily my favorite strain that I've grown and smoked, and even bought commercially. But, even that, I grew tired of smoking at some point & had to let my cut go.

Weed strains are like individual vacations; you can go back to a same location or hotel & even do most of the same things, but your subsequent trips will often not be as great as that first trip.

Glad to see this post! Was just thinking I wanted to hear everyone's processes for selection.

Thinking about changing to more of a mother plant driven set up. Where instead of having a veg tent and flower tent, have a mother plant tent and then another tent where I take them from rooting to harvest. Think this will allow me to hunt better and quicker.

Currently doing mostly a constant perpetual until I am ready to make a decision and then keep a mother in the veg tent. By the time I am done curing and ready to make a decision, I am sometimes on the 3rd and 4th cycle. Because I have some time and effort into veg, I usually just flower the last one to "not be wasteful"

Running perpetual 2x2s makes me think of space very carefully. I can't say this will fit your style but I thought it worth mentioning. These domes are relatively inexpensive, isolate, come with lights which make for a great space savers for clones and cuts. I am hoping we both have some happy hunting ahead of us 1000021247.jpg1000021022.jpg
