Got back out on the ice again. Had my friend and her 3 teens out with me. What a wild day, I'm wiped out. They're fisher people but not ice fisherman. Showed them the ropes and had a blast doing it. I bet we got 20 or more Northern PIke, lost one really good one that looked to be around 30 inches long. Our biggest landed was a 27 incher.
Once it got close to dark, I missed the only Walleye chance we had. There's so much ice it's hard to get the fishes head started up the hole, hook popped out while it was shaking that head back and forth like they do. Was a nice fat one too, guesstimated it was in the 18-20 in range. Really wanted to get one so they could see it. Out of the 4 of them only one had ever caught one and two of them had never even seen one.
Walleyes are a bastard too, seem like every time I hook one and it comes off it just shuts them right off. Like they're talking down there.
It's been a few years since I've really fished that lake and boy things do not stay the same. I can see why the law changed the Pike regulations. Never remember catching that many in one day. One guy can go get a limit of 5 pike in a couple hours, I think. Was never that many in there before.
For all the fish we caught we took home 1 10 in perch that's in my belly now. Fun day but not productive. Lost a half dozen hooks to sharp teeth too.
