What's the deal with "Super-Males", are they real or not?

Seriously

For those unaware of the "Super-Male" myth, find the most resinous and desirable male in a population, and if it exhibits female traits by end of flower then it was considered "better" to breed with than a male with none of the observable desirable traits and sexual stability, or even a "male" proven via DNA test of similar phenotype/genotype. This sounds ridiculous to me and I never believed these 'males' existed, but I think I just made a bunch of seeds with one and I am stuck wondering if it's just a wash, a 1 off experiment that failed.

So what's the deal with "Super-Males"

If they exhibit every trait including virility, resin, odor but are still "intersex", has anyone seen how the kids come out?

Only one way to find out I guess.

Males don't have pistils. Technically that's a hermie. I've never heard of the "Super Male myth" until now. Interesting concept. I have no idea how it would breed for you. I would cull it myself. If you are gonna go for it I'll follow along....ya never know what nature can give you. :)

I have like 1k seeds in total but roughly 20 from one that smells nearly identical. I'll start with that one.

Wouldn't touch em with a 10 ft pole that male would've been attacked with scissors long ago..but I'm extremely happy to to see these kind of posts and threads..And thank you you for documenting...This is the type of stuff that we need to see..Not jibber jabber. Proof!. Appreciate the work my friend 💯

No denying alot of top cuts come from bullshit happening...No denying top hype strains are from herm genetics... I really want everyone to consider where does this leave us in the future....Like really think about that for a couple days if need be..We as humans ruin everything we touch...feel free to change my mind🤷..I was a dog breeder for alot of years..All the top breeds are also basically ruined..Well not even basically... completely! Save your solid stock boys...They will be worth a fortune

Okay, I decided to start 100 of these seeds from my favorite mom's. If they're bunk or not I will document here.
Appreciate your work brother :)

I have mixed feelings on this myself, but the reasons I have, might be different:

For me, a good male is a plant ticking boxes on a checklist. Intersex traits are NOT part of that list.

However, there are certain strains that I love so much, that I might ignore that. Before running Chem DMT, I figured I'd be using Chem D bag seed to get part of that into a Cheese. Not something I'd send anyone, but for personal stash I wouldn't care. Some Genetics are simply worth it to me. There are some Genetics that have the ability to create specific terpene profiles routinely enough, that I run them anyway.

Lol, anyone want to guess the two family's I will do that for?

My goal is to use my Chelumbian f2 males on the my favorite mom's, funnily enough that "cheese and wine" hybrid may be coming sooner than I thought, these f1 moms are getting knocked up again very soon.

Those Cheese Terps are hard to ignore :) incredibly useful for medical purposes, and that smell..... hope you find some knock outs bro :)

I know what you're talking about. I had a really nice GOW male some years back that also expressed pistils. I unfortunately culled it assuming what most would, that it was unstable. Shortly after culling I came across some information you're talking about. I've come across similar claims throughout the years since but never had another male do that.... Until recently. ;) The Gorilla Mittens male in my tent this cycle expressed pistils. So rather than culling it, I harvested some pollen and pollinated a couple of branches. The scuttlebutt intrigues me too and I wanted to find out for myself. I'll be interested in reading about your findings from your experience as well. It's an interesting theory.

By all means, share your findings here too. I want to confirm/deny whether or not these are superior to my previous f2 iterations, so far, I am convinced they are worth spending a few months growing out. If they're predominantly gems with a few herms thrown in, I'll be happy as long as the smoke is top notch.

Curiosity killed the Cat and its said that satisfaction brought it back!?

Having grown and bred for over a few decades, I’ve seen a lot of oddities and more like these so called “Super Males” ; as these herms have been coined. Like others, I pondered upon this myth that the offspring will be magical xx females and stable! I think it’s just a gamble and the genes no matter for hermaphrodism will pass forward even if recessive. I played this card twice now, with the offspring being stable in the f1 but from there it’s a real gamble and I don’t encourage going this route as it’s not a card trick that’s going to pay off!

In retrospect, these male appearing plants are some of the truest of herm I’ve seen in comparison with the old school plants I observed from import Mexican seed that would grow 50/50 sexually. With one side being female and the other male.

And for the record I believe there’s more than just dioecious and monodioceous species in cannabis/hemp with the third type being a true freak like these “Super Males” being discussed and shown below! The specimen below is a f2 plant and it’s not being utilized even though observed to see if it’ll self pollinate! Some of you may recall my comment about the Chem D & GMO being a double edged sword- this is what’s hiding behind that mess ….
