Figured it was time for a new thread, even if it isn't quite time for fishing.

I went down to the river for a look this afternoon. It may be a day or two yet. ;)

So,, I wanna stay compliant.

Following 2023 regs, I would observe the same dates?

Lakes in PP1 are open year round.
Water is open now, but an hour+ drive.

River opened on May 7th, 2023.
I assume I shouldn't be fish'n in there, before May 7th, unless they publish differently.

Is that how you would read it, @Amarok ?

Yup. (pathetic how they haven't been ready with new regs 2 years in a row)

Here's the individual lake regs for PP1.
Most are closed right now, Mar 15- May 8

Same for most streams, the exceptions being listed here: (EG Bow is open year round)

With a new fishing license and the gear in the back, I went for a drive and did a bit of walking yesterday. Still a ways to go yet before I'll be fishing, but I'm ready.

I like the difference in light and mood in these two photos, one facing upstream and one downstream.

I've been to the river a couple times. Might have had a nibble, but that was it. Haven't even seen a jumper. Thinking I'll slip down first thing tomorrow and see if I can catch an early riser or two.
Still a ways off from sturgeon prime time, but I'm already looking forward to that. Nice to know I'm all geared up with the big baitcasters spooled up and ready for the dinos.

In the meantime, young Zach just posted a video that was taken at a spot I've been fishing since before he was born. A provincial record walleye came out of this hole back in the day(not by me). I've had some good trips there over the decades, though I haven't been for a few years. Maybe I'll drive over next week if my spots don't pick up. :)

Got my papers today.
Started the season
Cool! That looks like a pretty good sized snake. I love hearing only curiosity in your little buddy's voice. No fear, no aggression. :)

I took a pipe instead of papers, ;) but finally got my season going today, too.

Still dealing with car issues so I hopped on the bike this afternoon and headed to the river. About 4-1/2 miles though loose gravel and sand, into the wind, to get there. Decided to take the pavement back, slightly longer, uphill, and in a lucky twist, into the wind again:rolleyes:. I am so fucking beat. I haven't done any real riding since 2020 and am very out of shape. I am going to be sore tomorrow, I'm thinking.

I was very rusty. Missed a few I should have had, and donated some bait, but still managed to beach 2 good walleye.
Had a beaver swim up and start to climb out right in front of me. He looked a little surprised when I said "Hi beaver" before he turned and swam away.

It was nice to get the season going properly after a few earlier skunks and explorations. Gonna be back on the road soon, or gonna have legs of iron again. Either way, it's fishin' time!

I am glad you made it down the the water. Loose gravel is a real bear; mentally exhausting, I find. Gotta navigate constantly or end up waxing in the soft berms.

Anywho,
I am really excited to talk fishing, as I have not had a license since 2019.

Did you have everything in a backpack, for your bike trip? We were on bikes for our trip, as well. One of my daughters backpacks has a clasp above the water bottle pocket. Rods fit well and secure on the side there. I am a grown man, and my multi-colored backpack is purple, pink, and IDGAF. 😃

My son has no qualms whatsoever crashing a picnic, so I get a chance to talk to a lot of Anglers down at the river. Saw some Sturgeon photos, nothing over two foot. Nice to know they are still there, in numbers.
Pike, gold-mooneye, Perch, and Walleye is all I will ever see down here, and probably in that order.
I would be happy to catch any of them. Truth is, as much as I enjoy spending time fishing, I don't usually catch fish.
