Brokehoe's new grow

I'm not having the best of luck with my last few seed pops. ?

I don't soak, straight to paper towels with the water h2o2 mixture. I put that in a sandwich container (like for kids lunch box) set on cable box and forget it for a couple days.

@Dino Party (Apollo XX x Black Light Bubba) 8 seeds in 3 pop and grow 1/4 tails in 3 days, the other 5 have popped but are just staying that way.

@Schwaggy P same thing dropped 2 seeds of 4 different strains and got 2 that grew tails immediately the (Giesel x Skunky D) everyone else is popped but just not really progressing much.

When this happens it bums me out pretty bad.:slapping:

Am I rushing this ?? Everyone seems to progress faster than me. Like I'm always two steps behind.

Got a few questions for the hydro guys, if anybody still reading. Lol
What's in your sterile reservoir? What makes it sterile? And how much do you use. And how do you add as the growth progresses? Thanks for the help

I do straight to very moist, not wet, paper towels. Just tap water. Those go in a used grocery store sliced turkey container, which is basically tupperware. Put the lid on and put them in a cabinet. Unless your house is unusually cool, no added heat is necessary. My experienced guess would be that any temp between 64 and 82 and you should be good.

As to a sterile reservoir, I think I've heard the term used, but have no first hand experience. I rinse off the rocks and rinse out the buckets between crops, both w/ tap water, and reuse the styrofoam cups no more than 3 times. Don't know about you, but that sounds like 'good enough' as opposed to sterile, but it works just fine.

I do same , slightly damp paper towel in a zip lock . If they haven’t cracked in 24 hrs I usually hand crack .

Sterile means "free from living organisms and especially pathogenic microorganisms." Sterile reservoir refers to a "dead" solution, meaning there are no biologicals being added in the nutrient mix. Sterile-rez hydro growers use chemical oxidizers (chlorine, hydrogen peroxide) to prevent any unwanted biological growths (pythium, brown algae) from forming in the solution. I've run sterile rez's before and they work fine as long as you keep up with the oxidizing agent level. I found it drops off too frequently to be practical large scale. Bleach and pool shock was the least expensive and easiest to test levels in solution (pool test strips).

I now just use a cheaper version of Hydroguard called Garden Friendly Fungicide. It is a root colonizing bacterium that keeps unwanted pathogens away at about a 1drop/5gal every 3-4 weeks.

Thanks @Amos Otis and @Frimpong , I know this is basic stuff, I'm still learning and trying different things. Not all have worked out. You think I cooked the seeds, too much heat? That sucks. I'm gonna get my wife to slap my hand with a ruler.(made me not climb in Grannies apple tree again)

Thanks @Schwaggy P for the info. I was considering using something like hydro guard or a sterile res. This is second time trying hydro and the first time wasn't pretty.

Thanks everyone ☺ ✌

Hate to rain on the parade, but,,,, this is the worst part of the mooon cycle to get beans up. We're going inro tge last quarter, that's for root crops lol.

Just sayin, mine aren't coming up fast and I know better, should've waited 10 days lol.
Patience in golden here.
I usually plant by the moon as well. I was just excited about these seeds.
My bad all around this time. Sorry ?

It's actually one of the commonest and silliest mistakes ALL farmers make from time to time.
A lot of folks when they get 100% germination think they're the man, but really the glowing orb in the sky does more for seed popping than any other single thing.

Hey sorry fell asleep before I could make it back over here yesterday. What I like to do is, have no consistant method whatsoever. Sometimes I soak them in shot glasses, sometimes I soak them in paper towels in sandwich bags, sometimes I do both, sometimes I go straight to soil. Across the board, what seems to give me the most success, is wet but not TOO wet, and 75-80 degrees. The warmth really helps get things going/speed things along, and the moisture is necessary to crack the beans but if its just swimming the results dont seem to be as good. I noticed this when I popped a round a few months ago and realized I had left quite a bit of water in the paper towels. Also the temps were a little lower this time as well, I had the same issue. MOst cracked, and then a good number of them just stalled out somewhere between being cracked open and getting 1/2 " of taproot out.

Im still having a hard time believing that quick drying the buds in a food dehydrator at the lowest temp (100) was what made that last round go bad. I mean, it gets hotter than that out in nature and seeds still do just fine. So i'm gonna be reexploring those ones soon and maybe will be able to return with a little bit more of seed popping insight.

I've mentioned this elsewhere but for whatever reason, I always hated the paper towel method. Rapid Rooters have been my go to for years and I'll plug them every chance I get, especially after trying Root Riots, which can suck it. Also, get it? Plug them? Cause they're plugs? I'll see myself out now....

But before I go! I do need to supplement heat. I find seeds germ quickest for me around 85 degrees in the plugs, so heat mat or on top of my T5 light and I usually have germination in 24-48 hours. Then I start trying to hand crack anything that didn't do it on its own.

I haven't tried rapid rooters. Maybe it's time to try them out.

It's that time of year again.

I know you Canadians like your maple trees but this is my tree of choice. Even though it drops those string things in spring and twigs to large branches all year. This time makes up for all that b/s the rest of the year.
This is about 30 minutes worth of me staring at the ground.

Pecan Pie anyone?

I've heard that for many years and never paid it any mind, which is not saying that you're wrong by any means. But these just popped; the 4th is cracked.

Got 2 girls out of the 3 Bobber x Baindaid Haze.

I'm gonna move them and my Mamba Punch from @HOGBACKMAGIC14 in with the Starberry GOJI. Flipping to 12/12 now that everyone starting to show.

Also in seed popping news, I got three Black Light Oranges × Black Light Bubba with tails hoping for better luck this time.

I think I'm going to quit putting my hat in for testers I feel like I'm letting you guys down with my terrible grows, sorry.

Yesterday was my birthday. I had pretty good day even though I had to miss out on Red's drop☹️. My daughter made me an awesome tea set in her pottery class. Pretty cool if I say so.
Hope everyone has a Happy Halloween. 20211030_230557.jpg

Happy Birthday! Glad it was a good day. There's always more awesome genetics around the next corner...? The tea set is definitely going to be a family heirloom. Still a lot these days to be thankful for!!!
