Catfish are pretty smart too You can train them in like 2 weeks I think ? Biologists that study Catfish for companies that make baits, train them to do certain things before they test and apparently they're easy to train. For Catfish farms in the South, they are trained to eat on the surface of the water so the pellets they are fed don't sink.
You can also get certain species of Catfish to chase a laser pointer much like a normal Cat. Anyone else here ever had pet Catfish ?
I was trying to find the video but I'm having trouble locating it.... There was a video on YouTube though of a person with a Red Tail Catfish, and the Catfish was playing Soccer.... They can lift them with their heads (The ball in the video was weighted I think) but like, even when I had mine, he was fully capable of lifting up his "Bio-Ball" and carrying it on his head to move it somewhere else in his tank. It was so cute!
Catfish also will let you know if they don't like how you have their tank set up by re-arranging all of it to where they like it. We also have a Cuckoo Catfish that has those Japanese Moss balls in her tank, and she likes to arrange them.... The Moss Balls are way bigger than her, but she literally wiggles her head under them and moves them around to arrange her little garden.
It's cute; She will move a huge ass Moss Ball over to her little cave in her tank and block one entrance with one, and then, move another one over to a corner. When she gets tired of it there, she will move it to another section of the tank and play with them. She also has a little mermaid hoop in her tank so she can do tricks
She also sometimes will fly up to the surface of the water, and "tail dance" across the surface of the water like a hooked Salmon LOL. She's almost swam into her filter a few times from her finding the strongest current coming out of it, and swimming into it. She does little spinning twirls through her little hoop too.
Mr Whiskers, the one I posted a picture of (The Eclipse / Sun Catfish) also does little play things. He moves his Bio-Ball around, swims into the direct current, and plays in his tank too. He can't have many tank mates though because he's really territorial; He's had these little Mushrooms (It's a little Mushroom tank decoration) since he was a little inch or two long baby, and he had tank mates for a while, but as they got closer to his Mushrooms he'd get pissed and come after them.
Eventually a guppy got too close to his Mushrooms, and he grabbed it, broke it's back, and spit it out to die.... LOL he does NOT like fish touching his Mushrooms. It's kinda cute really.
He had two REALLY big Goldfish in his tank for a long time, but, they too kept going by his turf. They were too big to really fit in his mouth, so, he slammed them into the side of the tank....
