I saw the thread title and a few answers came to mind. Clicked and saw the low-THC stipulation and that makes my responses moot. Strains like Northern Lights and Romulan will knock you out, but they come with a heavy stone.

I've messed around a bit with CBD strains but haven't really gotten much from it. I want to experiment more, just haven't yet. I'll be watching along with you to see where this goes.

I’m looking for a strain for my wife’s insomnia without the THC side effects , she doesn’t like to feel high at all I’m wondering what to grow I’m thinking CBD low thc Cross any input
CBN feels like being drunk, only dumber. It is great for sleep. What Is CBN? 3 Best CBN Strains Available In 2022

I know two separate people who were unfamiliar with cannabis who took edibles before bed and slept through the whole experience. She may be able to avoid feeling the effects if you time it right. There are several high-CBN high-THC strains. But maybe there's a high-CBN low-THC strain around.

I hope I can relate this to those seeking sleep, or a sense of well being.
I use the old Green Dragon receipt, sort of.
I placed 7-10 grams of decarb'ed weed into a pint mason jar, I was doing 6 jars at a time.
Then I added a portion of vegetable glycerin, and same amount of Polyethylene glycol into each jar.
I placed lids on, then a ring, but did not tighten them.
I placed a trivet in my crock pot, placed the jars in the crock pot and added water 3/4's the way up the jars.
Set the temp to high, then I plugged the crock pot into a timer, set it to 4 hours on, 4 hours off.
For the next 7-10 days, every 4 hours, while HOT, I'd glove up, and pull a jar, tighten the ring, and shake each jar like a mad man for a couple of minutes.
Topping off the water in the crock pot each time.
So many folks folks tried it, some loved it, some did NOT.
However, every person loved the calming, and rest it brought to them.
Some folks would simply nod off after a dropper full in cup of tea, but not like an opiate, but a gentle spacing out sort of nod.
He LOVED it! So much so asked for another one.
He got a jar for his 90+ year old mom, that had taken to a rocking chair.
In 2 days, she got back outdoors and started working in her garden.
His 70 year old brother, with sever health issues, found a few months of peace before he passed away, he never used cannabis before.
Big FAIL, with harsh pain! Big FAIL with depression.
The most stated comment was, it makes me feel good.
One lady, told us, she felt like she belonged in her skin, when she dosed up. Some said it did nothing at all.
Just thought I'd pass this along, if helps one person, it was worth all this typing, LOL!

In my basic understanding and I may be wrong but I think if you were to take a pure indica and take it way past maturity you should lose some of the intoxicating effects and get more of a sedative effect. Like an 8 week plant at 12 or 14 .

^This is what they do in Mazar-I-Shariff when it's harvest time; They let the plant go until well past the point of "done" and allow a lot of amber coloration (Some genetics have the ability to turn purple instead of amber, so, amber OR purple coloration is what you want here) which is the THC broken down into CBN.

I usually let my plants go to about 30% amber coloration, just normally. If I was looking for specific sleep inducing effects though I'd probably say go to like 60% or more.

If she doesn't like THC, the more amber or purple you see, the more likely there isn't much THC left. The strain doesn't always matter either; A pure Indica may be known for these effects, but that depends on why, as a lot of places that make hash in the Middle East have been doing this a long time. Theoretically a pure Sativa with the same color resin would be similar. Depending on the Terpene Profile; That too is going to be a player in this ball of variables.

Blue Cheese was already mentioned, and Black Lime Special Reserve is another one to add to the list. But in reality, you may need to find certain terpene profiles, and let those strains go to like 60% amber or more before pulling if you want less THC and more CBN.

My Wife has an issue at times with anxiety from "Sativa" strains, though I've learned that allowing those to hit about 30% amber, removes the anxiety from it. Hope this helps.

Green Dragon is my favorite hash oil recipe. Because I have to order the alcohol from out of state I've only made it one time but it rocks!
