Q for Mods re Reactions

Other than the asshat reaction, which I presume either draws mod notice and/or creates a black mark in somebody's Permanent Record, how do the various reactions affect the Reactee's account?


The reason for the thread is that I saw someone refer to a facepalm as a negative thing.

I've always used reactions as just a quick way to respond to a post, I wasn't trying to piss on anyone. I give out facepalms for Dad-type jokes, groaners; not as a negative thing, but as a recognition of a particular type of humour.

Anyway, just hoping for some clarification as to potential ramifications to the various "reactions".

I just looked; I've got exactly 100 facepalms, and they do show up as black, but, I'm not actually sure if they count in a "negative way" though I've heard the asshat one DOES count negatively. Back in the day on the Computer Security forum I was a mod on, there were negative points that, if a member got enough of them, they were banned by the points system, so, it may well have a similar action depending on how the reactions were setup originally.

So there is some kind of points system around the reactions where you earn points for things like Fire and Frosty, but the only one I can recall actually negatively effecting you us the Asshat response. I think facepalm is just zero points? If it is a demerit we should probably revisit that since a few members really like to use that reaction lol

If Im being completely honest, I dont think I ever really understood the system myself lol.

@spyralout @Deebs with so many new accounts lately and all the new attention on the "Choose your title" thread maybe we should make a post revisiting these topics? I just poked around the site on mobile and I cant even find anywhere that documents how it all works so I know I could use a refresher for sure at least

No. There are no auto bans. We discuss in Staff such things and who gets the hammer which hasn’t been many.
