Songs I Didn't Know Were Covers

Apparently the Cramps were featured on a recent Addams family-based show and it went viral. It made me happy to see Lux and the crew getting some recognition, but in the process, I also learned that Goo Goo Muck wasn't an original Cramps song. It was based on a novelty tune from the 60s, and I had to go find it.

The OG

The version I thought for 30 years was the OG

Feel free to share any of your own. :)

That was actually the second song from that album that turned out to be a cover.

I was fascinated for decades by the vocal delivery on I Can't Hardly Stand It

Only to learn the song was first recorded by the wonderful Charlie Feathers and the ridiculous/fantastic vocals were heavily inspired by him.

I posted in another thread a while back that I was a big fan of Canadian rock band Toronto as a kid, and that..

I knew this song for a long time as a Toronto song before being embarrassed one day. I won't even bother to link the original, since every one of you know it.:snoop:

I can't recall if I'd heard the Stones version first. Probably did.
This version is definitely the one I know best though, even to this day. The Are We Not Men album has been a favorite since the early 80's.
(I'm not sure which cassette I wore out the most, this one or Bad Habits by the Monks, but I had to replace each more than once.)

Great artist prince
Absolutely. I read an article about him in the early 80's about how he was self-taught and played 30 instruments by the time he was 20 years old. It said there was a bidding war among labels to sign him and he refused until he had 100% creative control over his music, something unheard of, especially for a new artist.

I was intrigued enough to pick up 1999 on LP, despite being a metalhead, and enjoyed the hell out of it. I didn't love all his music, but always considered myself a fan of the artist.
