The "Everybody Loves Amos" contest, or the "I ruined Amos' contest" contest

When I joined pHenohunter, Amos's "Starberry Greases" was the first beans I purchased from a pH member. I have not been disappointed with the 6 or 8 strains of his that I've popped so far. The dude is more than legit!

Thanks, amigo. This is a good moment to mention that the Strawberry Starburst used in that and a couple others made some excellent crosses and was fine smoke on it's own. I've also grown and smoked The Cream by Irie Genetics and loved it. His seeds are a very good bargain and should not be overlooked imo.

Didn't know Amos was a Steely Dan fan. I am also a huge fan of theirs, going back to 1973. (Reeling in the years, indeed). It took me a long time to realize how many references to weed was in their songs, but there are many. They had a certain cynical way with words that not many writers can match.

'Rikki don't lose that number'
(Yep, the giveaway: "send it off in a letter, to yourself" )

'Black Cow'
(In the corner, of my eye
I saw you in Rudy's
You were very high....you were high)

Others were slicker, like:
"I crawl like a viper
through these suburban streets
make love to these women
languid and bittersweet"
(Viper= old jazz slang meaning pot smoker)

'My old school'

"I was, smokin with the boys upstairs when I
Heard about the whole affair..."

'Hey Nineteen'
A classic chorus:

"The Cuervo gold
The fine Co-lum-bian
Make tonight a wonderful thing"

As I get older, I am now understanding why so many of their songs talk about younger ladies...those guys had a helluva sense of humor and irony.

Full disclosure - though I've liked a handful of their tunes, there's also a few singles that I really did not. 'Peg' and 'Dirty Work' are the first that come to mind. I've never owned any of their recordings.

My recent affection for the band is quite frankly because of a couple of recently released clips from '73 on YouTube - the performances are great - but the visual delight of backup singer Gloria 'Porky" Granola is what, you know, grabbed my attention. :)

Yeah they had some songs that weren't so great, but I like their overall vibe, they didn't write a single love song. They dealt with real subjects that were a bit....gritty....such as addiction, midlife crisis, scams, etc.

And yeah Gloria and Carolyn....and Cynthia

There were a few

True.

I've often felt some lyricists don't get the credit derision they deserve.

Well played. I never liked those guys anyway, if you're going to name your band after the freakin' country you've got to bring it, and they didn't bring nothing. Hell they couldn't even come up with a name for the horse, but wrote a whole song about it not having a name wtf is that even about.

My understanding is that it's about doing acid in the desert. Of course, if you look / listen to all the songs penned by member Dewey Bunnell, you'd tend to think he ate acid whenever he composed.

"So, please believe in me
When I say I'm spinning 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round
Smoke glass stained bright colors
Image going down, down, down, down
Soap suds, green light bubble "

I mean ....

There’s a hidden track at the end of a Tool album and it’s a standup comedian. He says and I quote, “if you think that drugs are bad, go home and throw out all your albums, tapes and any form of music you have. All the people that wrote your favorite music……REEAAALLLLLLYYYY f@cking high on drugs!!”
