When I was a kid my dad had a 50's something Chevy truck that had a custom bumper welded on. It was 1.5 in thick cast iron the width of the front end and about 30 inches tall. Just a huge plate of iron. It had a bracket to mount a tire in the center, dad never had a tire on it. Someone ran a stop sign in front of us once. I'll never forget the impact. Popped my door open, it never liked to stay closed. Threw one of those big full sized station wagons across the intersection and that tire bracket opened up that wagon like a can of tuna. Dude was scared to death we'd want the cops called. His car was drivable but ripped wide open from the back door to the taillights. Wasn't even a scratch on that truck. Makes me smile and laugh everytime I think about it.
