3rd grow...CLONES!!!

Alrighty,

3rd Grow going on. I’m running two clones this time. I won a raffle and got a MAC1 clone and bought a Zero Gravity clone…I mean it’s not right to just have one, lonely, plant in the tent. That’s cruel, amirite?

Anyway, fresh Promix, Fresh 5 gal bags, and yesterday I got the new SE4500 light fired up! I’m running it at 46% for now, and will bump it up over the next few days. I got rid of the Cloudforge/Humidifier for now…it seemed more trouble than it’s worth. Two nights ago, they had their second feeding of Jack’s/CalMag at 50% strength, and here’s how they’re looking this morning on day 10…

So far they've had two feedings of Jack's/CalMag at 50 strength. Y'all think maybe one more feeding at 1/2 strength, then go 100%. Start bending 'em over this week? The guy I got 'em from joked that for the sake of canopy sizes, I'd probably want to top the Zero Gravity pretty often as compared to the MAC.

Your indoors brother, in promix, you want to start small like a 4 inch then to a 1 gal then to a two gallon max. Starting with a five, you set yourself up for a plethora of problems. Just trying to help you be successful in your grow. Your using salts man, you need drybacks and runoff, neither can be accomplished without issues in 5 gallon grow bags.

Ah, gotcha. What kind of issues? I did my first two other grows like this, and didn't really have any issues.

Slow growth, nutrient lockout, poor yield etc. What ec are you feeding you said 50 percent strength jacks.

I will 2nd @Chefdave thoughts on pot size. While it is quite possible to successfully grow using a 5 gallon smart pot as your initial container, a gradual increase in pot size will allow for much more explosive growth in veg. I have found my plants love going from a solo cup to a 1 gallon container to a 4-5 gallon container. I too use promix but work with organic amendments so I use alot of soil to begin with.

I agree and disagree with the pot size opinions. I go solo cup to square 9" pots all the time. They call those 3 gallons. It depends on your goals. I can get 6 of that size in a 30" x 60" tent if needed. The outdoor grow is what fills the apothecary here, lol, so I have the luxury to be able to look at and play with more inside.
It's about goals.

I go from aero cloner to solo cup (veg for 2-3 weeks), then into 5gal pot. Did that for nearly 15yrs w/o issues. But uppotting deffinately helps with veg and root growth like said above. You'll get better growth by uppotting a few times.

Don't understand using salts and bags why anyone would want more than a two gallon, smaller pots, frequent fertigation equals yield and control of your drybacks.

You can do decent in those 5 gals and have a happy successful harvest. that being said @Chefdave is definitely a salt master and min maxer. It all depends on your style and goals. If you are looking to step your game up Dave is a good perosn to look to. If you want to talk about jamming anything and everything into small spaces That might be my thing. You can fit so many in there!!! Get in where you fit in. This is a nice spot of the internet growmmunity. Look forward to seeing how these turn out for you. Those are some nice cuts.

My second run ever, about a decade ago, was 5 gallon fabric pots with blumats drippers (under an array of proper T5s and shitty blurple LEDs) and I killed it. It can definitely be done without problems, as long as you don’t overfeed. I think OP is gonna do fine. It’s probably a good cautionary tip, but not a big deal.

Good point, and it reduces waste significantly, in terms of grow media. I am running Blumats with 3 gallon bags right now in my little closet run.

Welllll I veg for a bit & flower in 7s... Start in solos then into 1 gals then 7s but I've always run 7 gals. I kept moms in 10s & 15s at the old facility. Its preference really. I like to water once a week at home, 7 gals and Sunshine 4 allow me to do this. Promix I'd dry back a little faster (5 days) which kinda complicated my feed schedule. Find what works for you & run with it, but dont be afraid to try something new once in a while.

For me it's all about speed and yield, quality is a given. Larger pots equal slow growth, it's cool if ya have the extra time and extra waste of resources, but for me the quickest turn around time with the largest yield is the goal, I run a business, not a hobby for me. Once you start to understand and implement crop steering you really see what's possible not only with speed and yield but also potency and full genetic potential. Anything will work, it's what you want to achieve and how much time you have to dedicate to achieve those goals. I agree everyone should work with what they feel comfortable with, and can afford, problem is most of the ways taught how to grow are obselete for modern cultivation. Why do you think 99.9 percent of commercial cannabis cultivation is salts and crop steering. It works. I've grown every style imaginable in the past 40 yrs, nothing even comes close to precision crop steering.

Start seeds in something small, move to small/medium pots to establish a nice rootball, then off to another larger container or ground furrow or in the case of clones, I myself like to veg them in #1 pots (1gal) for 3-4 weeks, slow-vegging plants upwards of 5 weeks, then move to 5gals

I grow in soil, using some dry amendments & liquid ferts. For my last couple runs I've been starting seeds in tiny cells, like 1/2"x1/2" -> 6oz cups -> 1qt pots -> 1gal pots -> 5gal pots. There's a few advantages:
- I can conserve on lighting/electricity by having a smaller footprint at each stage.
- I can add a bit of myco to the roots at each up-pot
- watering is easier in the smaller containers
I find that it builds a very robust root system this way.

For my latest run, I decided to try adding coco & perlite for aeration. It turned out to be a big mistake for my style of growing, ran into the problems mentioned by @Chefdave , so I totally see where he's coming from with having better control with smaller containers when using coco.
I used to run 15gal pots indoors with soil, no problems with lockout, no need to flush, etc. It's really all about what jives with your growing style. We're not all driving Ferraris, I know I'm not, lol .
