Cloning in flower

UrbanHillbilly

In Bloom
I cut a few clones about 3 days ago, when the plant was a couple weeks into flower. Little buds are showing, as expected. I'm just curious, I know they need to re-veg and I have the light at 18/6. Is there any advantage to going to 24 hours of light? It doesn't cost much to run a little quantum board a few extra hours per day. Also, I'm a little curious about the buds currently on the cuttings. Do they just wither away, or what?

And for future reference, either when cutting clones in flower as I have done or in veg with known females, how do you work your timing for subsequent grows? By that I mean, compared to popping seeds, how does the time compare to growing from seeds?

Taking cutting from flowering plants is called monster cropping. Usually best time to monster crop is day 17- 21. It will take additional time to root versus a cutting taken from veg. You will have a larger percentage of fails compared to veg cuts, however the ones that do will be super bushy without topping. Also in the beginning of monster cropping growth stage after rooting you will likely see plants that look mutated( twisty leaves, 2 and 3 leaves leaves, this is normal hormonal tendencies with monster cropping. Normally takes 16 to 25 days to root a monster cropped cut depending on your environment. Once well rooted , transplant and watch them take off. They are scary fast. To answer your question on existing buds I normally pull off after 2 weeks from transplant time. Hope this answers some of ur questions

When I ct2cln late in flower, I usually get nothing after the 3rd week myself, but my way is to lay a piece of netting over my dome, to reduce the light, and I use my T5, over my tiny LED, and give them a drop or 2 flowering fertilizers, set the heat mat to 80 F, spray inside the dome with water, and hope like hell they make it, LOL!
Best of luck to your cuttings!
I just sat down here, after placing cuttings into cups myself. 4 sets of CeliaBX1, 4 sets of Skittle Mittens.

The 3 little babies are doing fine so far. No roots showing, but its too early to expect them. I have Clonex solution mixed in the water.

Do they just wither away,
yes
Left alone, it will just crust up and blow away like a tumbleweed.

Generalizing, a seed germinates into a sprout, grows into a juvenile, moves into preflowering, and then flowering.

Once your monster-cut has rooted, and completed reveging, it will be a pre-flowering plant.
Your choice at that point, but the plant is good to go. You may choose to switch to a flowering cycle to begin producing bud immediately, or you could continue to veg indefinitely, where upon it will continue to increase its size, in a vegetative state.

I have done it a couple times, sometimes it worked , sometimes it didn't.
This is tricky business, eh? Like 60 days sometimes. Don't be discouraged if they get real butt looking, until they go rotten, there is a chance they could live.

Hey man what type of clone machine is that aeroponic or bubble? Also what is your water/solution temp and your pump cycle if aeroponic? If bubble, how many air stones and size of air stones. I know you are using clonex solution, but what else in solution? Anything?

If it is, after you give me details on temp and pump time I will further elaborate on successful cloning with these machines. Cheers dave

Yes it is a Clone King and admittedly I do not know the water temp. I filled it with room temp distilled water mixed with the Clonex solution and placed the whole thing on top of a heated mat. The pump is always on.

Brother no offense, but you need to do research before attempting things that are going to fail. First of all water temps cannot exceed 75 degrees with aeroponics or bubblers. The last thing you want is a heat mat underneath. You can get away with above 75 degrees if you are completely sterile. This is not something that is low maintenance. The whole purpose of cloning machines are ease and rapid rooting. Pythium will soon absorb your roots and your clones will die if temps and sterilization is not immediately changed. Sterilization can come in many forms. Bleach, h202, pool shock, etc or you could waste money on clear rez or a similar product. You should never with your present skill set attempt monster cropping or clone machine cloning. Start manual cloning first when you have mastered it think about other methods . Manual cloning is so easy. Get a 10x20 tray with a 7 inch dome, take cuts from vegging plants( lowers are best) cut at 45 degrees angle, dip in cloning gel, put in a rapid rooters, close vents for 4 days , do not open lid, then on day 5 mist with light nutrient solution(your clonex is fine for this) open vents halfway then 3 days later mist again then open vents fully. Transplant when roots are many, not when they start showing. For your misting you can also just mist the inside of the dome heavily. I mist plants . Anywhere from 73 to 85 degrees. If your room is cold , with manual cloning you can absolutely use your heat mats under tray. You should be researching everything before attempting unless you enjoy failure.

I own and run 10x 25 site klone king aero cloners.

10000000% never use a heat mat. I use tap h2o, ph to 6.0, cycle timer 3 mins on and 3 mins off. You want to make sure that aero water is COOL, never above 78*.......ever!

Ive done well over 10k clones since 2010.
OK, heat mat gone. Just put a thermometer in the tent, but realized I don't currently have a way to measure water temp so I'll have to pick something up. I went with distilled to hopefully have less clogging on the nozzles.

There's a reason why I use tap water, and others use bubbled or r/o then add back in pool shock (aka chlorine). Tap is free, ro/pool shock costs money.

If you run a cycle timer, I'm betting the water won't be over 78*, unless your room is HOT. I've never had a nozzle clog.. well yes, I was a piece of root. Not from the water or additives.
