Lets hear some advice! Making selections

Might as well put my steps up.

For doing crosses, I try to avoid using males that are not before f3.

Regarding selecting males for seed re-ups, I rank the males based on vigor and then try to pair males that have similar traits with the female selection.

Often I run "themes" so I run all of a strain I am excited about and run some other seeds with similar genetics. Makes it easier for comparing. Last run my theme was Platinum OGKB. Before that the theme was Strawberry. Up next will probably be afghan or gas, possibly keep going with the strawberry/fruity or Platinum ogkb.

Grow weird shit.

Hybrid vigor is real, and most plants these days are combinations and recombinations of GSC and Skunk 1. There's nothing wrong with that, but there's a finite amount of genetic expression that can be drawn from those pools, which are already crowded with breeders already. I can't walk down the street without 7 people trying to sell me some MAC x Runtz beans or Thin Mints clones. 😂

There's a lot of gold in older heirloom lines like G13, Haze, Blueberry, Grapefruit, NL, Widow, and of course native cultivars from anywhere but especially Afghanistan, Thailand, Nepal, and India.
Lmao....just bought some Thin mint GSC beans....funny stuff..picked it up for the Vault.

😂

If I could pick just 1 thing for selections, it would be get to F2 ASAP, and chase transgressive recessives. Not dominant phenos from F1s or IBLs. The true magic lies in those outliers within F2s. And dont be afraid to pop a good 100 or 150 to look for them.
