Lobo's Sativa Challenge Grow....

LoboGrow

In Bloom
I've got two seeds of each variety below planted on Sunday, December 14. This will be my most challenging grow to date, given my small grow boxes.....

Left bank: Doc-D Seeds - Tom Hill's Haze F3 x Bandaid Haze F3

Right bank: Oldsogs Cabinet of Curiosities - Pure Power Plant x Destroyer F2

Grow plan: Use seedling spectrum until stretch is over, then switch to vegetative spectrum until harvest, depending on growth. I will likely avoid the flowering spectrum completely, as it is heavy in red.

14/10 - From hitting the dirt until the second set of leaves are visible.
13/11 - Three days
12/12 - Three days
11/13 - Until harvest.

I decided to try the Rain Science 3 gallon bags again, but using the copper root control discs inside the bottom of the pot. I liked their performance other than the root encroachment, so I'm hoping the discs will prevent that problem. In order to make sure there is plenty of water availability, I've altered the wicking pattern to maximize wick contact.

I will have the plants sex tested at the second set of leaves and any males will be replaced with a longer flowering fem seed. I'll be using Rio Grande Analytics out of Albuquerque as their testing is spot on. If both seeds are male, then I'll simply restart them.

Backup fem seed: Solomon's Temple Seeds - Merkaba (Cosmic Wisdom Genetics Hawaiian Haze Heirloom x Neville's Haze)

I have a feeling the THH is gonna bust outta that tiny tent like a gorilla in a paper bag. I ran a few long flowering sativas, and the stretch & vigor was unreal. I would snap branches that were too long, and they would be standing straight back up by next day. You're on the right path, but I'd also suggest topping, and using lots of plant training clips. Another technique to limit the crazy stretch, is using sidelighting/undercanopy lighting and lowering the intensity of the main overhead light.
I've been thinking a lot about handle these things and get them to finish. Unfortunately I missed out on the Band-aid haze crosses, but I have a few Thai & Vietnamese to run this Spring.

Yes, this grow is going to humble me in many ways lol....

I want to top one of the plants and then just use the clips on the other plant to see if I can keep up them. Basically, I'm going to have to train them early and often....

They didn't finish, but I've been sifting them for their seeds. I rolled up a little ball of some finger hash that I gave my brother and he said it got him high and he was still high in the morning lol....

I'm hoping the male gave the progeny a quicker start to flowering since he started in late July/early August and the girls didn't start flowering until early to mid September. I'm going to throw a couple of those seeds out in May and try again. Hopefully I can get something close to finishing.

Now that I have a feel for the climate here, I'll put out some better choices this spring that will definitely finish here...

Reduced the light to 13/11 today since I can see the second set of leaves forming on all the seedlings. They will stay here for three days, then got to 12/12 for three days, then to 11/13 for the duration.....

All the plants were switched to 12/12 4 days ago and switched to 11/13 today and the light was increased to 85%. They'll stay here until the first pistils are visible. The two Pure Power Plant x Destroyer F3 are growing very differently from each other, so I'll be interested to see what comes of this. I will say that the topsoil is much drier on plant B, but that's usually a good thing....

Update for Saturday 1/3/26. The blue light seems to be keeping the plants short and tightly spaced so far. I expect the plants to start stretching in the next couple of weeks and look forward to seeing how they progress…

Unfortunately, my second Tom Hill's Haze F3 x Bandaid Haze F3 is also a male, so I'm 0/2 for this try. I think I'm going to plant some of these outside this spring because I really want to see what I get in the girls....

Replacing this plant will be a feminized seed with a 9-10 week flower cycle. Cloud Magic made by Blaze It Panda which will hit the dirt tomorrow morning....
