Mr Barr is trying to set new legalities for Hemp.
The hemp industry received encouraging news this week with the introduction of the bipartisan Lawful Hemp Protection Act, legislation that aims to establish a clear federal regulatory framework for hemp-derived products.
Rather than moving toward prohibition, the bill proposes national standards for labeling, age verification, product requirements, FDA oversight, and interstate commerce. It would also replace the federal THC container limit currently scheduled to take effect this November with a more practical regulatory approach.
While the bill is only the beginning of the legislative process, it represents an important step toward providing greater clarity for merchants, financial institutions, and consumers.
