I often seem to have the problem when shopping with Bezos, alot of the same product rebranded by a bunch of sellers whose names seem like random combinations of letters.
It's hard to find anything of decent quality sometimes.

So, does anyone have specific suggestions for RO replacement filters?

I'm running a Aquaticlife Buddy 75. About to add a chloramine carbon block filter that's in a canister style case. When that comes it will be 4 stage. Sediment, carbon, carbon block (chloramine), and Ro Membrane.

But before that I've been running the 3 stage- sediment, carbon and RO membrane. New it was great like 4 ppm if I recall. Recently went up slowly to 12 ppm.

The sediment and 1st carbon filter are 1/4" push connectors. The block carbon is in a canister as is the RO membrane.

I think filters are relatively interchangeable.

I put in aquaticlifes ro membrane and it wasnt great... ppm stayed the same as it was with my old RO membrane, actually up abit to 14 ppm. I'd like to get back to single digits like it was new. It came with a vontron ulp1812-75 but that's not readily available now.

Tap water is 168ppm. The aqualife was just 92% if my math is good.

So long story long, what are yall running for RO systems if you are, and why, and what brands do you like?

I run a Growonix EX1000 Tall with a booster pump (makes it 2x and 150 psi). Def don’t need that size but when I made a budget I knew from buddies those eco brands and Amazon suck and it’s the filter quality and price that gets ya, I support Growonix on their A+ hand made and USA based company but also the time of use without exchanging/changing filter showed even if same size not all filters are created equal?

Reasons =
super well built, mines 7-10 years old and man it’s a champ. the big thing is their filters are hand made in usa and membranes are prime. many of the hydrostore and cheaper brands their kdf to membrane def are worse grade but same price.

I do suggest if u got a lot of iron/metal to have a house filter ( mines pre sediment + acb + kdf) than grow room is my r/o. reason I say this my replacement needs of filter and membrane reduced by 2-3x times .

There’s cheaper/better prices to buy their products but this is direct makers website and gives ya base on info.

Well here's where I'm at. If money were no object I'd buy something nice like bh has. But I am dirt poor haha!

So even if I had abit more cash I'd build a custom setup with cheap filters and housing.
5 micron sediment, 1 micron sediment, 5 micron carbon block, 1 micron carbon block,.5 micron chloramine special filter, and the ro membrane. Probably overkill.

What I'm actually going to do

5 micron sediment, 5 micron carbon block, .5 micron chloramine filter, ro membrane.

Simple 4 stage. Should take my 168 ppm tap water sown to single digits... maybe even zero?!?!

If someone has anything to add or comment, please do! I am more than open to input.

this is is a great eco prices version , just have this on float valve and it will unto shut off. Haven’t seen many that were close to tht quality for that price.

what you're after is a better quality ro membrane. yes, most other prefilters are similar quality. a better ro membrane is called tlc. I have a couple extra hydrologic ones laying around I would part with.A tlc membrane has higher rejection rate of 98 % and with 168ppm input should get you down to less than 5ppm

I used to get 4ppm with this. Screenshot_20250725_113859_Chrome.jpg
Plus a cheap sediment and carbon block. This was included with my ro buddy which was a good deal.

I think your on to something here... I've been surfing the internet reading etc.

I have this on the way, has good reviews. The proof will be in the ppm. If it's no good I'll return it. Screenshot_20250725_113709_Chrome.jpg

I sent back the aquaticlife brand one, that was no Bueno. Hopefully they don't reject my return since I used it haha.

I probably should have got the filmtec, or for less waste water the pentair. Screenshot_20250725_113649_Chrome.jpg

I'll look into hydrologic

As always I appreciate you!

Even that is too spendy for me. I don't have any nice things honestly. My car is budget economy, basically everything I have is low end.

Unless the filter you just picked up specifically says TLC or tfc membrane it will most likely underperform as well.

The filmtec and hydrologic ones I have are the better ones.

To reduce waste water you can change out your flow restrictor for around 10$. Not a different membrane

So here's where I'm at.

The membrane I ordered leveled off at 12ppm, same as the last one. It's probably the exact same product rebranded.... 12 ppm from 164ppm is 92.7%. The listing said 97%, but the package it was vacuum sealed in said 92% minimum right on it. So that one is going to be sent back as well, have a Film Tec on the way, hopefully those are still decent quality.

It's possible the membranes need a longer break in time I guess. But I've ran quite a bit of water through it already. Not sure, I've read all sorts of different things. But it's probably run for over 24 hrs at this point.

At some point in the future, I'm going to swap out my cartridge sediment and carbon filters for standard filters in housings.

I can't really decide if I should do 5 micron sediment and carbon or 1 micron.

I think the trade off is 1 micron plugs up quicker, and would need to be changed more often. But it should protect the far more expensive chloramine filter, so I'm leaning towards 1 micron for both sediment and carbon. I'll change them every 3 or 4 months.
