We're always so focused on terps, potency, and bag appeal but we rarely assess roots. Root quality is a trait like any other and like many other traits, they can suck. Fruit tree propagation routinely uses rootstocks to make certain varieties more hardy, why not cannabis?

The clip holds the two pieces together while they heal and fuse into a single plant. I cover the graft with a bag to keep the Chem D scion and the graft union in a high-moisture environment, similar to a cutting. After the graft heals (about 1–2 weeks), everything above the union is genetically Chem D, and everything below is genetically Tampa Crippy.
Grafting is common in fruit trees because many varieties don’t root well from cuttings, so grafting allows you to clone them by attaching budwood from the desired variety onto a seedling of the same species. It’s also used when a variety roots easily but has weaknesses in its own root system (like nematode sensitivity) so it can be grown successfully on a more resilient rootstock.
I’ve noticed that Chem D tends to have less root mass and an overall runty root structure compared to other cuts. It reminded me of the mulberry varieties I graft for nematode resistance. I grafted Chem D onto a Subzero12 a couple months ago, and it showed much better vigor and was less nutritionally temperamental. Now I want to see how the grafted Chem D performs in flower to determine whether it (and other finicky cuts) benefit from a different root system. I also grafted Chem ’91 for comparison.

It's the original Maphial cut from his crossing Rez's Sour Diesel x Kastu's Chocolate Trip. I think there was a very limited auction of seeds of the Chocolate Diesel way back. Anyway, Useful shared the cut with me and I've had it since. Around the time of getting that cut, I was growing out Chocolate Trip F-somethings so I got a solid crash course in the line and saw so much of the Chocolate Trip structure, vigor, and habit in the Chocolate Diesel.
Choco D flowering
The terps are mostly limey/diesel. I've never really gotten much Chocolate from her or the Chocolate Trips. I've had better luck finding Chocolate in just Chocolate Thai (but the never ending stretch and forever flowering time aren't worth the hunt). If you've smelled any Diesel anything, just add a shot of lime juice and you got the terp profile. She'll purple up later in flower and can range from 50/50 purple mottling to full purp. I take her to ~70-75days and am happy with the flower. She has grainy trichomes that make her a nice plant for concentrates.

Earthy, light roast coffee
ASS have all sexed, 12 female: 9 male. Pretty good for a Bodhi run, I usually get disproportionate male ratios from his stuff. They have all been cut and are sitting in rapid rooters. I was humoring doing a full open pollination or F2s but I really just want a solid female. If I find a killer cut I can always self it and dig thru those. This will be my 4th pack of Appalachian Super Skunk and there are many other lines I'd like to run so if I don't find something worthwhile, I'm not worried about making more time/space cracking a 5th pack's worth.

I havent had a chance to see bubba in my garden and I think about it sometimes. My growmie has had the bubba grape gas which was good smoke but nothing to memorable imho. In the past I have come accross 2 different flavor profiles called bubba. One was a very kushy earthy coffee dank and another was very sweet with bubble gum terps. I have seen mention of the coffee terps bubba but not so much anything bubblegum ish. I wonder if it was cuts/genetics or different harvest times or just weed that was kept next to a bunch of gum. Ramblings aside, I am emotionally invested in ass 15 did it make the list of females ?

The last Bubba Kush cross I ran tasted/smelled like Dove milk chocolate. The Bubbas I had grown earlier were very coffee/earthy in smell and taste.
